The State Museum of Applied Arts of Uzbekistan is an art museum located in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, founded in 1937 as a temporary exhibition for handicrafts. The museum contains over 4,000 exhibits on decorative art in Uzbekistan, including wood carving, ceramics, embossing, jewelry, gold weaving, embroidery, and samples of mass production in local industry.

Until the beginning of the 21st century, the museum was located in the former palace of the Russian diplomat Alexander Alexandrovich Polovtsev Jr..

The museum building, known as the Polovtsev house, was purchased by his secretary Mikhail Stepanovich Andreev from Tashkent merchant Nikolai Ivanovich Ivanov. Under Andreev's guidance, the interiors of the house were readjusted and refurbished to fit an Oriental style. The main architect of this restructuring was A. A. Burmeyster. The house was known colloquially as the "Polovtsev House". The building is an example of Oriental architectural and decorative art, built in the late 19th century. The decoration, carving and painting of the building was done by Uzbek folk artists Usta T. Arsankulov, A. Kazymdzhanov (Tashkent), Usta Shirin Muradov (Bukhara), Usta A. Palvanov (Khiva), and Usta Abdullah (Rishtan).

Applied some light painting here by bouncing in the light off of some other tufa behind us. Was just for a few seconds to provide some low light details in the foreground.

Applied a little light painting bouncing the light into the tall tufa ... and at the same time another photographer out in the dark was using a green laser.

The museum was built between 1893 and 1896 and was designed by Ödön Lechner in the Hungarian Secession style. It has a green roof and the interior is designed using Hindu, Mogul, and Islamic designs. I used to live on the same street back in the 60’s where it is located, and frequently visited the museum.

Post processed in Luminar AI geometry filters and Aurorora HDR..

Applied the LR AI noise reduction to this ISO 1600 hand held captured taken at the park, and the results there on the cannon details are worth viewing large.

The snowy egret is a small white heron. The genus name comes from Provençal French for the little egret, aigrette, which is a diminutive of aigron, 'heron'. The species name thula is the Araucano term for the black-necked swan, applied to this species in error by Chilean naturalist Juan Ignacio Molina in 1782. ~ Wikipedia

No saturation applied! This shot is straight out of camera with just a small bit of contrast applied to the Raw file. Amazing color of the sea the day that I was there. Or, more aptly, the few minutes I was there because the guide had us on a schedule. As I recall, we were shooting through a fence. Because of the time constraints, I didn't even have time to change lenses.

Back when Delaware-Lackawanna ran three times a week to interchange with Norfolk Southern at Slateford Junction or Portland, a trio of ALCO/MLWs pass underneath the Lackawanna Cut-Off bridge over the Delaware River near Slateford Jct. At the time, C636 3642 sported a freshly-applied nose herald, which was sorely needed! You won't find regular freight activity down here these days unfortunately, but at least the Delaware-Lackawanna is still going strong.

Thought this brought out the wintry mood here in Maryland.

Luckily this most recent winter storm this weekend just brought rain along the Chesapeake Bay and not snow.

Now hoping the storm pulls away and lets us have some clear skies for the moon show tonight.

... is what was to be seen at Knottingley in South Yorkshire until March 2015 before punative taxes applied to coal burning power stations came into force.

The power stations of Eggborough and Drax a few miles to the east ensured multiple loaded coal trains per hour ran through Knottingley.

Here 56102, exhibiting tatty ‘Large Logo’ livery passes through knottingley station with a train for either Drax or Eggborough.

CN's White Pine Local works slowly east over the Presque Isle River trestle just east of Tula, MI on the beautiful morning of August 1, 2003. WC 2002 East has a short train boxcars for the copper refinery at White Pine. We're into the second year of CN ownership of the WC lines in the U.P., but so far pretty much everything looked and felt the same.

The White Pine Local would run east three days a week out of North Ironwood, MI and would be the perfect target on the way over from the Twin Ports on the deadhead to the Upper Peninsula to railfan the E&LS, LS&I, or WC/CN.

The Mellenheads that ran this line in late-WC and early-CN were some of the friendliest railroaders I even encountered. They were always helpful with intel and offered numerous cab rides. Not sure it was more the all-day 10 MPH or my preference for photos, but I never took them up on the latter.

During this time, the ex-Algoma Central GP38-2s were common on the former WC lines and they looked great with their relatively recent maroon paint applied.

All good things come to an end. The ex-AC 2000s were eventually banished to Canada and this ex-DSS&A line would see its last train east of Marengo Jct. in 2010. The ex-Soo line that it connected with hasn't fared much better. Good memories though of these photos and also of the friendly railroaders that ran these trains.

I'm including another photo from my short trip to Vienna. We are back in the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK). But this time it's not a display piece, but the building itself (in the form of this beautiful staircase) that caught my attention.

The building was newly built especially for the museum and completed in 1871. I think these are pretty venerable halls that you enter here.

Since I didn't have my tripod or a wide-angle lens with me when I visited the museum, I had to improvise a bit to get this scene completely in the picture.

So I took six photos in portrait format freehand, which I then put together to form a panorama. Considering these circumstances, I am very satisfied with the result.

Drops of record cleaner fluid on a 45-rpm record. The record is on a record-cleaning machine consisting of a turntable driven at slow speed, a spindle with a threaded clamping knob to hold the record snugly in place, and a built-in vacuum to suck up the fluid and debris.

The fluid is applied with a squirt bottle, a fine-haired brush is used to distribute the fluid and scrub the record for ten revolutions of the record in reverse, then forward, then the record is vacuumed clean and dry.

She applied it so carefully into each Valentine she filled out, asking all day to please fill them out for her friends and classmates.

It was a pretty big contrast to Jacob. His was more of a "meh".

I tried to capture some of her essence in this. I sort of succeeded, I think. : )

In august 2025, Midtjyske Jernbaner's new Siemens Mireo Plus B BEMUs were used only on a few passenger trains with tests and driver training ongoing and charging equipment at Lemvig yet to be installed. 563 002 "Vinden" is approaching Harboøre on the embankment from Thyborøn around noon on this hazy summer day and wearing only the white undercoat. By the end of the year more colourful vinyls would be applied and the units would substitute the Uerdingen built diesel Y-tog.
