On the 27th of October there was a Halloween party in American Ordosy in Talas City with the ACCESS students. We gave information about Halloween to the students with the help of modern technology such as power point presentation (projector and computer).

There were 30 students .They also watched a movie about Halloween. The name of the movie was “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. The students enjoyed the holiday and also games. It was fun for them.

Nicholas Holman established his works c.1800 in St Just catering for the engineering needs of the Cornish tin industry. They diversified into various areas such as agricultural machinery, bicycles and Cornish slabs (cast iron cooking ranges), supplying the latter to Trinity House for their lighthouses. In 1856 they opened a foundry in Market Jew Street in Penzance. They were certainly in business until at least late in the 20th Century.

NYC: Community Access

Between Bradford and Gayoso Bend units

Gov. Markell toured the Treatment Access Center (TASC) in Wilmington, one of three offices in the state, that acts as a liaison between DHSS’ Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH) and the criminal justice system in referring people who are on probation to addiction treatment. Joining the Governor on the tour were Superior Court Chief Judge Jan Jurden, Secretary Landgraf and DSAMH Director Michael Barbieri.

TASC Director Denise Bowers said TASC sees more than 3,000 clients per year who are assigned there by the courts. The typical case manager has 40 clients and sees five clients per day.

In a discussion with the Governor, case managers said the system needs more beds, more housing and more safe havens for survivors of domestic violence. Director Barbieri said part of DHSS’ plan to increase capacity in the addiction treatment system is to double the number of sober living beds from 60 to 120. Sober living includes a treatment component. The goal for individuals, Director Barbieri said, is “to move them back into the community slowly and protect their recovery.”

Judge Jurden said she has seen several TASC success stories, including a 25-year-old woman who had been addiction to heroin, had been incarcerated and had her baby taken away. After being assigned to TASC, going through treatment and rebuilding her life, she now has more than 13 months in recovery and has her baby back. “She talks highly of TASC,” Judge Jurden said.

Being able to walk amongst the stones without the crowds and without the rope barrier is a magical experience. English Heritage offer special access visits before and after general admission throughout most of the year. They allow only a handful of people in at these times, which gives a very different experience from the hundreds of visitors who visit during normal opening hours.

The usual facilities are not open at this time, so there are no English Heritage members, or audio-guides available, so to get the most out of this visit, having a personal guide who can explain the various theories of Stonehenge and its history is invaluable. I will spend the hour with you, telling you about the stones, where they came from, and the theories, old and recent, about its purpose and how it was built. There are few definitive answers about Stonehenge, but that makes it all the more intriguing!

Special Access slots get filled very quickly, often months in advance. If you would like a special access tour, then this could be incorporated into your tour with me. But do contact me well in advance and I will see if there are spaces available with English Heritage (and that we are available that day as well)
