An unusual 4 car NP23 Xplorer approaching Fassifern on 23rd May 2006. Normally this train would have two sets together of either 5 / 6 / or 7 cars. It would normally would split at Werris Creek and one portion to Armidale and the other to Moree. This appears to be the Armidale train only.
Something in the camera focus seems off of late, not anything I've touched...
Whilst certainly not unheard of or unphotographed, the fleet of Volvo 7900Hs usually to be found on Route 100 (Chelmsford - Lakeside) occasionally manage to stray onto Basildon - Stansted Airport route X10.

It is always interesting to shoot a fellow photographer. I didn't know about her at first, I was just attracted by the fabulous costume. I wanted something dark and I knew she was the one as soon as I spotted her. I was stunned when she said she is both photographer and retoucher. Usually, we hate on the other side of the camera, but not her.

In the background are the rear wagons of the Qube train that were shunted onto the Up Main North line by Pacific National's Ardglen Bankers. The Qube locos are reversing onto the those wagon and later pulled forward to propell to their original destination - the Werris Creek Coal Loader.
That line was used to temporarily stow the wagons as that line through the station only sees two regular trains per day. i.e. the Armidale Xplorer in each direction. The Up Xplorer due about 2 hours after this was taken.
The original style Wright Eclipse Gemini-bodied Volvo B7TL or B9TL is undoubtedly a modern day classic.
First Cymru's fleet has recently received a boost with the arrival of five B9TLs (plus seven Gemini 2-bodied B9TLs) from the West of England fleet, all of which have been allocated to Port Talbot depot to boost capacities on Services 38, 87, X1 and X5.
Three - 37605, 37606 and 37610 - carry a slightly faded version of First's three-tone blue and gold Interurban livery from their days at Wells depot for the Mendip Xplorer network, which seems to suit them well.
Representing the recent extension of Service X1 (Bridgend-Pyle-Margam-Port Talbot-Neath Port Talbot Hospital-Swansea) to and from Singleton Hospital and Swansea University's Singleton Campus, this September 2025 shot of 37610 was taken on Guildhall South Road, with the clock tower poking through the trees.
XP2004 and XP2012 lead WT46 through Bumberry bound for Orange then Sydney.
Similar to 2022, the 2023 Elvis Express was combined with the normal Dubbo XPT service (WT27). The train operated to Orange along the normal WT27 timetable carrying both Dubbo XPT and Parkes-bound Elvis Express passengers. Beyond Orange, passengers for destinations towards Dubbo completed the remainder of the journey by road coach. Meanwhile, the XPT continued to Parkes as WT49. A similar arrangement was used for the return journey.
This contrasts with prior to 2022 where the Parkes Elvis Express was operated as a standalone train on a separate path, and the Dubbo XPT service was replaced by an Xplorer.

The eleventh and final former First West of England Wright Eclipse Urban-bodied Volvo B9TL to recently enter service at First Cymru's Port Talbot is 37605, one of five dating from 2008.
She carries the three-tone blue and gold Interurban version of Olympia corporate livery, which was applied in 2018 for Wells depot's Mendip Xplorer network.
Interworked Services 38 (Neath-Skewen-Jersey Marine-Swansea) and X5 (Neath-Briton Ferry-Swansea) have become a regular haunt for the B9TLs, and she is captured on West Way in Swansea when operating the former in August 2025.

Class leader XP2000 and XP2006 bring the return Elvis Express into Forbes station.
Despite this station formally closing in 1990, two passenger services called here on this day 30 years later. Typically this annual train to Parkes uses the main west, however this year it was diverted via the main south as bushfires had closed the west. The XPT is a rare visitor on this line and even more so with passengers onboard as seen here stopping at Forbes station. Over the coming months, the Broken Hill Xplorer, another passenger train, would also transverse this route in service.
