This is for My Utopia because... I´ve always looked up at the sky at night - I can stare at it for hours, dreaming, forgetting all around me - I love the sky at night.
A Ring Around The Moon
The ring around the Moon is caused by the refraction of Moonlight (which of course is reflected sunlight) from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. The shape of the ice crystals results in a focusing of the light into a ring. Since the ice crystals typically have the same shape, namely a hexagonal shape, the Moon ring is almost always the same size.
Less typical are the halos that may be produced by different angles in the crystals. They can create halos with an angle of 46 degrees.
Moon Ring Weather Folklore
Folklore has it that a ring around the moon signifies bad weather is coming, and in many cases this may be true. So how can rings around the moon be a predictor of weather to come? The ice crystals that cover the halo signify high altitude, thin cirrus clouds that normally precede a warm front by one or two days. Typically, a warm front will be associated with a low pressure system which is commonly referred to as a storm.
- So... is this true? Well it snowed 6 hours later ;-)

Helios is the Sun god in Greek mythology, and Sol in Roman mythology; thus the term solar.
The series "When Helios' Asleep" are very related images: (1 -- 2 -- 3) is an experiment to investigate the effect of aperture setting -- more specifically in 2 (f/11) & 3 (f/13). Both were exposed for 20 sec at 24mm. The images shown in 1 & 2 have identical settings (20 sec f/11 24mm) except the image in 1 included portions of the West End, Charles/MGH area and the Longfellow Bridge. On the other hand, the camera was panned towards the right so that the image shown in 2 included a slight region in the Back Bay area. View the largest image for each: (I -- II -- III) to investigate more thoroughly the details in each of the images.
N.B.
The image shown here was not cropped. Except for "unsharp image" and the automated resizing and "screen image optimization" to reduce the diskspace usage, no further image manipulation was done.
a walk through the park at the last days of this year, no snow and frost, but amazing colors everywhere.
The other night Caity decided to kidnap me and we went on a mini photo adventure. We ended up freezing our buts off, but I managed to snap a photo of he under some fairy lights that are strung throughout a walkway in the core of downtown. It might not be my best portrait, but it captures the night in a single photo. Chilly and rushed.

I made it this night when we're going at home. I love such snow, when everything become white just in few minutes and you can't see anything around you:)
