Right then, a new year,a new project.

After giving the 365 a go last year, and stopping because I found myself just taking pictures to fill the gaps, I've decided to do a picture a week.

Taking the time to MAKE a picture, rather than just TAKE one.

Hopefully this goes a little better than last year.

Week: 38

Circumference: 43"

Belly Button: Looks like its pouting. Maybe it is.

Enjoying: Enough energy for a day-long improv class. Making some progress at 1.5cm dilation.

Feeling: Some signs of labor. The baby definitely dropped. I don't know why they call it lightening since it feels very heavy. I feel like the inside of my tailbone is bruised.

Movement: She's been squirmy. Especially at night. A little less so today but still in the "things are OK" range.

Sleep: A lot harder to come by this week. Either my brain is racing, I'm uncomfortable or a Braxton-Hicks contraction wakes me up. One dead-to the world sleep last night since the contractions let up for about a day.

Food: Pretty much standard eating habits. Got some fruit popsicles which have been tasting very good. Been craving chocolate pudding. But that is completely normal for me.

Anticipating: The end of the waiting. I've been tying up as many loose ends at work as possible.

When Finn was a puppy we watched a lot of The Dog Whisperer. A lot. One of the things that really stayed with me ]\was that my emotions flow down the leash. If I'm not confident that Finn will behave, then he will probably meet those expectations. If I tense every time we see a dog on the greenway, Finn will veer straight across to say hi (obnoxiously). If I am relaxed and confident, then he obeys me. If I look down at him with love and pride, he is much more likely to listen.

It goes down the leash. We say this to each other all the time. When I'm feeling worried or stressed about something and Olive is fussy, Ryan mutters the phrase. If he rushes bedtime because he's late to meet someone, I remind him of the mantra.

Well, it went down the leash this week. Ryan and I were both busy with work and we recently lost our twice weekly sitter (still miss you, Ms. Carly!) making things even more of a logistical puzzle. I worked the moments when I wasn't with Olive which meant that the house didn't get cleaned and the laundry didn't get put away. Ryan was working after Olive was asleep, which meant he was exhausted.

By mid-week, Olive was fussy and clingy but by Friday she was completely out of sorts. I was feeling overwhelmed and I'm sure that it was traveling straight down the leash to her. The weekend was beautiful but there was little time to enjoy it. On Sunday, the day before I flew out of town for three days, we decided to put responsibilities on hold and take Olive out for waffles.

There were no tables open at our waffle place so we sat outside. I got Finn out of the car so he could join us. It was sunny but a little chilly with the wind. I put Olive in her high chair and pushed her closer to the table – and crushed her fingers between the chair and the wrought iron table. She cried and cried and she had a little red line across her knuckles later that night.

We ate breakfast and let Olive run in the big grassy quad in front of the restaurant. I gave her distance, as I always do, letting her explore to her heart's content. I watched proudly as she turned around and got down on her knees to take the step from the curb to the road. I watched as she steadied herself with her little hand and then I heard her scream out in pain and I saw dozens of fire ants swarming all over her milky white skin.

Seven bites.

Her chubby little, perfect hand. I wanted to sit in that grass and cry right along with her but I couldn't because I was worried about allergic reactions. I have amazing, brilliant friends who told me just what to do and what to look for. I recalled how painful it was to get bit by fire ants and I felt so sad that she was now feeling that pain.

That night I was feeling guilty about what an awful day Olive had. And I was feeling sad for myself that we had such a horrible day when I had to go on a trip the next day and wouldn't have a chance to make it up to her. Of course she slept poorly. Of course she couldn't settle down and kept crying out and….

It goes down the leash.

Week 25/52 ~ "Water"

So this week I am finally home from a whirlwind trip. Well, home for two weeks and then we are off again. But it is great being able to relax and try something new. And you can bet there will be some Hammock time in the backyard this weekend.

So this week got inspired to try something totally different. I started following a photographer by the name of Joel Robison. Don't know if you all have heard of him (I never had). But I kind of liked what I saw.

This is my interpretation of an inspired image I saw. Doesn;t even remotely come close, but it was certainly fun putting together. Tripod and a few paper boats....Viola!!!

Happy Weekend to ALL!!!

Taught by Tam Laporte

On Thursday night we finally finished our taxes. I hatched a plan: get the kids down, head to the main post office downtown to mail the taxes, and then swing by the waterfront to get a photo for the “bench” theme this week.

While I was packing gear, my older son Sam asked me for about the 10th time whether he could stay up late and “count stars.” As the days are lengthening and bedtimes are unchanged, the previous nine answers have been “another day.” Since I was going out anyway, and it was clear night (a rarity this time of year in Oregon) I told him he could come with me to the waterfront and we could count some stars there.

Well, these days my younger son Jim wants to do everything Sam does. In fact, very little happens that is not done as a family unit. Next thing I know all four of us are in the car.

In the end, we all had a lot of fun. Taxes got mailed. Stars were counted. Pictures were taken. I felt a little guilty about keeping the younger set out well past bedtime, but by the time we got home we had two sleepers, both much the happier for our adventure.

Finally, there is no question that this type of shot is at least partially inspired by Dustin Diaz. If you have somehow managed to not see his work, check it out here. It's awesome.

Honest critiques always welcome.

With the first day of Hanukkah coinciding with Thanksgiving this year, it was a busy week of cooking. Fortunately, I didn't host on Thursday (I hosted on Friday) so I had some time to make some homemade apple sauce. It was my first attempt at such a concoction. It turns out that adding one third pear makes for a nice taste. So technically it's apple-pear sauce. It went well with the mini latkes I also made.:)

It's a very fast drawing(30 min. Sorry Sandy, i just wanted to post ;))with no reference :S

The tower is called "La torre de la vela" and hides a really nice tale that i will tell u soon ;)

It's amazing to see the sunset when the lights are on and giving that special light from within the wood (it happens for about 9:30 p.m. on summer)

Graphene Week 2017, Monday 25 September, Athens, Greece,

This was Olive’s first week at Soccer Shots. We’ve been talking a lot about how she’ll be taking soccer lessons soon and she’s been a bit apprehensive about it. When I bring it up, she likes to tell me that Ryan and I will watch her play and I reassure her that we will be right there cheering her on.

When Saturday morning arrived, she was excited in the car about going to soccer but as we got closer to the fields she started to feel more nervous. However, when we arrived she simply dashed onto the field without looking back. I was so proud of the way she followed instructions and listened carefully to her coach.

I love watching Olive grow and noticing the ways her personality has been set since birth and what traits are slowly starting to alter. It was no surprise that Olive enjoyed the drills at soccer the most. She is still an observer and tackles most things with precision. She is not a child who tries something over and over again or who will enjoy practicing. Instead she likes to watch and copy exactly what she sees. Running the tick tock drills, kicking the ball into the goal, doing the airplane maneuver, those are all things she could observe and then repeat and she was happy to do so.

But, when things are chaotic or it is unclear how to replicate what she sees, she loses interest quickly, which is why the scrimmage at the end of practice is her least favorite thing to do. Halfway through the game, Olive took off her jersey, put it in the pile, ran over to us, shrugged her shoulders and said, “I don’t know.” To her, these scrimmages have no order, they don’t make sense to her and she doesn’t want to be part of it. We’ve had several more lessons since this first one and I’ve encouraged her to stick with it and try to be part of the team. We’ve heard a lot of “it’s too hard” and “I too little” which are both true. Though she’s not the smallest in the group, she is definitely not the fastest and gets beat to the ball all the time.

Olive very much wants to take dance in the fall and I think she will truly enjoy it. Ballet is something that appeals to her personality. I want her to experience team sports as she gets older, but right now, she seems to be drawn to individual endeavors.

While there are lots of ways that Olive’s personality has stayed the same, there are also some new traits beginning to emerge. She’s becoming more bold and spends less time hanging back in new situations. She’s more likely to join in the fun she sees around her and to go up to strangers and ask them questions. She’s also becoming much more assertive and has no problem expressing what she wants or needs, but that’s a post for another day.

Bump at 36 weeks... thanks David for being my torch ;) Tomorrow will try and take a nicer one in the daylight! This is a bit eerie. PS my legs aren't that fat!!!

San Francisco Fleet Week 2016 finished with a bang on Sunday, with another spectacular airshow, featuring (among others) the Bretling Jet Team, The Patriots, and the Blue Angels, who were competing to see who could get the most "wow" moments with the crowd!

Did you know you can find me on Facebook? Check me out here.

I was such a go-getter today, on the last day of vacation. I kept my usual early morning session with my trainer, and then Boomer and I were at the farm by 8:45. You know what? It's a lot easier to get a parking space that early than at lunchtime. Also, the pick-your-own was a bit easier because the front-of-the-rows stuff hadn't already been picked over. What I learned today is that I need to quit my job, because work just gets in the way of doing stuff.

Anyway, our haul today was two Chinese cabbage, one bunch of scallions, two heads of fennel, six bell peppers, three cucumbers, three summer squash, three heads of garlic, 1 1/2 pounds of chard, six pounds of heirloom tomatoes, 3/4 pound of teensy cherry tomatoes, and 12 pounds of slicing tomatoes. Our pick-your-own bounty was another 3/4 quart of heirloom cherry tomatoes, 1 1/2 quarts of sauce tomatoes, 30 hot peppers, 1 1/2 quarts of edamame, three quarts of okra, and one bunch of sage.

12th March - 18th March

the memories echo

It feels great to wake up and see the sun shining bright outside, waiting for you to get up and find inspiration. I love weeks like the one I had, it makes me feel great and happy and I'm trying to keep my mood like my current one and I would love if things will stay this way for some time. I like them.

Week 20's theme was "vintage" and I chose to use a "vintage" edit.

This probably looks extremely rushed, but I love it and I loved this little baby sea turtle! When I walked up to their tank, it popped its adorable little head up and looked straight at me, almost as if they were smiling. :) I know it isn't the best photo and this little one is out of focus, but keep in mind he/she was in a glass tank and we were not allowed to use flash and I am very shaky with my camera. =P

This was taken when Brian's parents were visiting us and they took us to Jekyll Island and the Sea Turtle Hospital/Museum.

So, basically I can't recall what week this was technically taken for, but oh well. I suppose this happens when you let yourself fall behind by four weeks. =/ After I get caught up, I won't let it happen again!

It is a Tradition of the Catholic faithful to do Visita Iglesia during Holy Week.

Visita Iglesia is a Lenten tradition of Roman Catholics to visit seven churches to contemplate on the passion and sufferings of Jesus Christ and say two Station of the Cross per visit.

Others, visits fourteen.
