I've chosen an existing Panorama to re-edit. The original is on the top. The colour of the buildings, water and sky is much closer to what I saw with the naked eye. The roofs are yellower than the original, however it was golden hour. I have used a Trial version of Luminar to make these edits quite easily.

Week 12/52 -

*Hit "L" to make it big!*

Week 20 enters a new realm: Pregnancy! This is Michelle. Michelle is one of Ashley's best friends from college. She is the first of the bunch to get pregnant! We celebrated Ashley's birthday yesterday and Michelle came into town and I wanted to get some Maternity pictures. She is just about 6 months into her pregnancy.

Michelle was also kind enough to let me 2nd shoot at her wedding last year:

www.nickpompei.com/malick

Her wedding was in May of 2010 and it was the first time I used my new 7d. Its been a great time ever since and I really appreciate her and Garrett allowing me to shoot at their wedding. It helped my career a lot. Thanks!

Congratulations Michelle and Garrett!

1 - Vivitar 285HV, lowest power setting, zoomed to "tele" fired camera left on stand, into DIY snoot/grid, about 6' from subject

Objective: (Jeremy speak)

This was my first Maternity shoot. I had some ideas on what I wanted to do and I think they worked out really well. Michelle is also "easy on the eyes" so that helps too!

I used a 3 light setup for this shoot.

The main light fired into my 48" Apollo Softbox. That helps to create nice soft light, which in this shot is falling on her right side.

The 2nd light is the light that is falling onto her belly. This flash I put inside my Cheeta Qbox softbox with a grid. The grid is a fabric piece that attaches to the outside of the softbox. It basically looks like a tic-tac-toe grid of fabric. This grid helps focus or direct the light into one place without light spilling everywhere. So in this shot you can see how it is just hitting her belly and slightly outlining her left side. Without the grid it would have put a bunch of unwanted light all over her left side. I wanted to the focus to be on the belly and it worked great.

And the 3rd and final light is a hair/rim light. That is coming from her back right side and it falls onto her hair and shoulder. You can see how that light gives separation from the background. I also used a grid on that flash so the light would not fly everywhere. I made my own snoot using cardboard and black straws - innovative, I know!

For processing I did some slight skin smoothing in PS CS5 and minor tweaks in Lightroom - Voila, a very beautiful pregnant girl! Thanks Michelle, good luck!

Cheese - A great excuse for a gooey grilled cheese sandwich!

Week 4 Puppies!

Man they're growing pretty fast! This was them 2 weeks ago! :D keke

A little less than 4 weeks and I get to bring one of them home with me!!! Wooohooo!!!!

Week 19 of 52. This weeks theme: "WINDOW LIGHT".

The possibilities were endless with this weeks theme. Natural window light was my very first introduction to learning lighting in photography. I learned to shoot solely by filtered window light. Even though I have advanced beyond window light to various outdoor lighting situations and studio strobe lighting, window light still remains my very favorite light...beautiful, natural, and soft. I kept trying to stick my 4 y.o. daughter in front of our kitchen window today at about 5pm when the lighting was perfect, but I couldn't get her to stay still and act natural (no surprise there;). After many attempts I peeked in on my 2 year old son in his room to find him sitting quietly on the chair with a book right in front of the window. Perfection.;)

It made me really sad to realize I never took any photos of the library while I did my 365. Actually I did! Day 8/365

So here is week 9. :)

This week was super awesome. I took photos of my friend Jesse doing Parkour, butterfly photos of my sister and mom, film of some of my favorite scenes in Maui, and some goofy shots of my friends after book club outside in the rain.

+1 in the comments, and a link to a full album of them.

I can't believe that it has already been two weeks with Maggie and I also can't believe that it has only been two weeks with Maggie. I feel like she's been with us no time at all and forever.

Scott has nicknamed her, "Sleeping Beauty" due to all the sleep this child gets. One day we are going to look back on this and miss the sleepy days. We saw the lacation consultant again this week (I sense that we're going to be seeing them for a bit) and she gave me so much hope. She thinks Maggie will outgrown her latch problems and said that my side of Team Boob was in good shape. It's funny, with Molly, all the breastfeeding issues were on my side. Molly was an excellent breastfeeding partner. This time around, Maggie has the challenges but I'm hopeful that she'll get past them. The LC has assured me that she will.

We went out for sushi lunch today. Maggie slept through lunch while Molly chowed down on avocado rolls. It was nice getting out of the house even if it required massive coordination and organization. We started getting ready to go out at 8 a.m. for an 11:30 a.m. lunch.

This week has been a bit of a groundhog's dog. It's a 24 hour cycle of try to breastfeed (sometimes we have success!), feed Maggie and pump. Then I have about 30 minutes to eat, shower, clean up, etc. before starting the cycle all over again. Luckily since Maggie is such a good sleeper, I have a longer stretches at night. I'm still having to set my alarm to wake her up to eat so I'm taking advantage of the situation and getting a 3 hour stretch and a 4 hour stretch of sleep. The first few weeks are always so hard but so important to getting the breastfeeding relationship on track. I also know that this too shall pass and soon Maggie will be bigger and I'll miss the squishy little Maggie I have now.

This week was assessment week at swim, and because I am always prepared for the worst case scenario, I assumed that this would be the week Olive decided she hated the pool. But, as usually happens in life, what happened was something I didn’t foresee.

When it was our turn for class, her instructor told the moms to stay on the deck and let the kids enter the pool on their own. “Let’s just see what happens,” she said. We slowly sat down, awkward in our bathing suits, and held our breath a little while we watched our kids handle this new challenge. Which they all did with aplomb.

Ten minutes passed, then twenty and slowly the moms started trickling back to the locker room to change as it became apparent that we weren’t needed. As I watched Olive run through her drills, take turns waiting on the side of the pool and play on the steps with her friends, it dawned that the week before was my last class in the pool with Olive.

I know that we all hate getting into our bathing suits every week and managing getting us both dried and changed at the end of class, but I loved being in the pool with Olive. I loved being right there with her when she mastered something or found joy in something. And like so many things in parenthood, I didn’t realize the last time had already happened.

It was funny to see how all the moms reacted after class. After we had greeted our confident and yet slightly bewildered students with warm towels and high fives. After changing them into their clothes and telling them how proud we were of them. We all slowly left the locker room and sort of congregated in front of the teacher’s area, a little bewildered ourselves. Ms Gigi told us that there would be no more moms in the pool and that all the kids were moving up to their first independent swim class. While we were all excited, we were all a bit stunned, too. Weren’t they just in the water for the first time yesterday? Wasn’t there years of Mommy & Me classes left?

The fact is, this is just the beginning of the letting go process for me. Olive goes to school twice a week but she’s carefully monitored there and her snap decisions don’t put her in danger. At swim, sitting on the side of the pool, I see her making choices. Do I sit in listen, patiently wait my turn and follow directions or do I take a risk and jump in the pool on my own? Do I give into worry and cry a little or do I suck it up and put on a brave face? I’m proud to watch her make good choices even when I’m not there to remind her.

The last few weeks have been emotional ones for me as Olive takes so many steps away from being the baby I’ve always known. But they’ve also been exciting weeks that have shown me a lot about her personality. This summer, her independence will grow even more and my role will change (notice how I didn’t give in and use the word “diminish”). She’ll hopefully start soccer lessons at the end of May and she’ll do two weeks of summer camp later in the summer. We’re going to try swim lessons at night for our next session and she’ll have an instructor we’ve had before who I know will expect a lot out of her.

I’ll have to get used to my new job as mom on the sidelines. I’ll need to brush up on my snack packing and cheerleading. And I’ll be learning to fine tune my ability to derive joy from watching and not experiencing.

I found this sweet camera at an antique store in Ohio. My friend, Carla thought it would be a great subject for this weeks topic. Thanks Carla!

I kinda slacked this week so this was one of those last minute shots. I've always wanted to take pictures of stars on long exposure where you can see how they move so I decided to finally give it a shot.

Not too pleased with the outcome, but it wasn't too bad for a first time. I'll definitely try something like this again in the near future.

Hello again, it’s that time of the week where we showcase some of our favourite garms in one outstandingly cool outfit. Welcome to Style Solutions. Last week was one of our best rig-outs to date. So, we’re gonna try our very hardest to top it this week with some more new autumn/winter clobber from the likes of Carhartt, Denim Demon, Libertine Libertine, Herschel Supply Co and Nicholas Deakins.

To kick things off our model has been doing some serious layering. A white Libertine Libertine Brake Helmet tee is accompanied by an unbuttoned Denim Demon Klaase Shirt with the superb Carhartt Heritage Irvine coat. The Lib tee depicts a large chest logo of an American army helmet, which does look exceptionally cool. As for the Denim Demon Klaase shirt, well, there is certainly a lot for your pound in this one. It is made from soft chambray cotton with a button down collar. One key feature includes the use of authentic reindeer horn on the left chest pocket and top collar buttons. To complete the upper half look we now turn to the Carhartt Heritage Irvine coat. The Irvine is a bloody brilliant piece of outerwear which you would be silly to overlook. It is made from an 11.4oz 100% cotton ‘dearborn’ canvas. It also has applicated leather on both the shoulder and elbow areas, for extra durability, it is a work-wear inspired piece after all. The Irvine also has four front pockets and a beautiful looking corduroy collar.

Now we turn to the legwear. We’ve turned away from jeans or chinos this week and gone for a classically stylish pair of Carhartt Klondike corduroys, in navy. The Klondike fit means that they are slim and do taper in below the knee for a bang modern take on a classic staple. However, don’t fear the slimness, they’re not your typical skinny boy fit.

This week’s choice of footwear comes, once again, from the Yorkshire masters, Nicholas Deakins. In particular, we chose the Adle V Shoes, in tan, which have been made in Spain from the finest textured leather. They feature a moccasin whip stitch apron, which uses a triple tension waxed thread. Along with a strong cream rubber sole these babies look awesome in all occasions.

Ok, finishing off the overall look we have chosen a Herschel Supply Co Ravine duffle bag, in nay. This is perfect for weekends away, trips abroad or simply to put your smelly gym kit in, however, we think it’s worth a little more than that though. Give it the love it deserves!

Theme of The Week - Rule of Thirds

Week 9 of the 52 weeks challenge.

Lately I’ve felt like telling strangers how wonderful parenthood is at the moment. We all know how cyclical parenting a toddler can be, so I don’t take these periods of happiness and calm for granted.

Olive is so funny and expressive that Ryan and I spend a good portion of the evening after she goes to bed trading stories about the things she’s done that day. After a month or so of being fairly uncooperative, she’s returned to being easy to reason with and happily complaint 80% of the day. The more we’ve experienced these highs after particularly challenging lows, the easier it is to ride out the bad portions. As a friend once said when I was complaining about Olive’s behavior last month, “Just wait, she’s about to blow your mind.”

And it’s true! When she comes out of these troughs it’s always with an explosion of skill and vocabulary. Just a couple of months ago I was amazed by her use of 5-7 word sentences but on the car ride to the beach two weeks ago, she busted out a 13 word sentence! I counted on my fingers while I drove and marveled at the kid sitting in the backseat.

A few things she’s said and done that we’ve been particularly smitten by lately.

We’ve recently read Dragons Love Tacos and she loves telling us the plot of it. We’ve had long conversations about whether dinosaurs like spicy tacos, unlike their cousins the dragons. I say they do, Olive is rigidly in the no camp and Ryan thinks it depends on the dinosaur. She likes to give me the Ikea dragon hand puppet and feed the dragon pretend tacos. I pretend in return that she’s given me a spicy taco and burp fire.

She’s very interested in wings and we like to talk in the car about what she would do if she had wings and where she would fly. We’ve also been talking about what insects and animals have wings. The other day, I got her up from her nap and the first thing she told me was that she had wings on. Another day, she found a hanger and pretended that it was her wings.

Magformers are huge in our house right now! Both she and Ryan want to add more to their collections. The click and snap of Magformers is now a familiar sound and can be heard all day long. She’s even brought them to the dinner table with her. She loves to ask Ryan to build a tower (you can lay them out in a certain two-dimensional pattern and then pull them up into a three-dimensional tower) but she also builds them by herself. Recently she’s been building her own two-dimensional towers using the Magformers.

This is something ornery she does but I still think it’s pretty funny. When I say something that she doesn’t want to hear, she’ll look at me sharply and say, “No, I’m talking to Daddy right now.” She even did it the other day when the two of us were alone in the car!

She’s beginning to grasp “best” and “favorite.” She’s also started saying I love XX or I love that! Many times a day she’ll hug an object and say, “I love you, XXXX.”

Her imagination keeps growing. She makes stories up as she plays with her baby or dollhouse. She turns books upside down and makes “tunnels”. She’ll put a straw to her nose and say she’s an elephant. In the back seat she tells herself stories and lately she’s been quietly, shyly narrating the other characters part to create dialogue in her story.

She’s really starting to grasp emotions. There’s a song on our Music Together CD about a dog being tied to a tree and for a long time she’s told me that the doggie is sad but the other day she also said that the doggie was frustrated because no one would play with him. When we were leaving my parents’ house, I said I would miss Mimi and Olive said from her carseat (while pointing a finger at me), “Hey, hey hey, you be happy now, don’t cry.”

There are a million more little stories like this but the gist is, I just love her so much. And she’s so much fun. And I know in another month, she’ll be giving me a run for my money but oh my gosh, how great is 2.25??

Week 07 - 12 -18 February

Missed out on a shot last week, partly because I wasn't too happy with the double exposure shots I took and also because I was' t sure if I wanted to do a double exposure type shot.

Anyway, how fast a fortnight has passed and I'm still stuck, so here's the shot I intended to post last week. Just a merging of 2 shots... 1 from a 50mm and the other from the 80-200mm. More next week.

Springfield, Illinois: Car Bumper Deer & fireworks

I had a different plan for this but it turned out crappy...

Week 2 theme is "water refraction". I tried everything with the water drops to no avail & finally used a glass of water & some colored paper. The refraction is shown in the reversal of colors in the background & water. I used aa SB800 flash with a grid on it fired by CyberSync triggers.

Been a fun week. my last full week in the UK for a while :-( Went to take pictures with claire in Ilkley, fell down a hole. bought my suitcase and started packing. Had a house party, played swing ball and did the agadoo. Fun Week

Week 35

A friend of mine was kind enough to let me tag along to shoot a wedding with him and I of course said yes, the experience is great and we had fun doing it too. After some debate I ended up picking this photo... I don't really know why. I guess it looked the most "wedding-ish" to some extent. The couple was super cute and sooo nice and they had this adorable little boy and I almost picked a photo with him in it but this seemed more classic.

I don't really know what else to say :0 it's a wedding photo!
