Tihar jail inmates to turn reality show contestants
With films like Lucknow Central and Qaidi Band bringing forth the concept of reforming jail inmates with the medium of music, let us tell you that these films are inspired by real life stories. Tihar jail, which is considered to be the biggest jails in India, started off the concept of giving its inmates an opportunity to showcase their talent and it has now become a reality show.
In 2012, Tihar jail authorities launched the Tihar idols to encourage inmates who are good singers to bring their talent to the forefront and this reality show will make its TV debut next month. In fact, the said show has been shot over a period of three to four years. From Sonu Nigam to Anuradha Padwal to Sudha Chandran many have been the judges of these shows within the jail which involves music and dance.
What started off as a music therapy for inmates by the then DG of Tihar jail, Neeraj Kumar, has now become a huge thing with a music studio being established within the jail premises wherein the inmates practice music. This has been started in association with a music company. On the other hand, describing it as a positive experience was Sarangi maestro Ustad Kamal Sabri who was one of the first music teachers in Tihar jail. He has taught music to many inmates including Manu Sharma, who was involved in the Jessica Lall murder case, as he learnt violin.
As for the program, it has been designed in the form of Indian Idol, wherein 500 inmates will be auditioned out of which 16 finalists are selected in 16 finalists [eight for singing and eight for dancing] to compete in the finale. The winners further are given an opportunity to release an album and a similar album was released in the year in 2012.
On the other hand, the network that will air the reality show is yet to be finalized.

The news of the morning is Chris Brown’s arrest in Paris following an accusation of rape from an unidentified female victim. Brown was arrested by French police on Monday, along with his bodyguard and another man who were said to be involved in the incident.
Now, Brown is responding to the accusation: “This Bitch Lyin’.”

The post has gained over 500,000 likes and 45,000 comments in under and hour since it was posted.
French magazine Closer, which broke the story, spoke to the victim under a pseudonym as she described the ordeal.
“It’s still too difficult for me to explain in detail what he did, but it was brutal and violent . He was threatening and aggressive. I was very afraid. Once it was over, he opened the door. I told him that I wanted to pick up my cell phone and go home. Chris Brown went to see one of his friends. I thought this person was going to accompany me to the bodyguard for my cell phone, but that’s not what he did.”
She goes on to explain that the bodyguard abused her, as well.
“I am traumatized, I can not overcome what happened to me and resume my habits. It’s horrible, I’m lost.”
A French judicial source says Brown and his cohorts have since been released from custody.

Proper hydration is absolutely essential for our overall health. Our bodies are about 60% water and the water we consume optimizes blood pressure, regulates body temperature, lubricates joints, moves waste out of the body, and aids in digestion.
Proper hydration is especially important during the hot and humid days of summer when our bodies lose water quicker and must work extra hard to maintain a normal temperature. Dehydration can be dangerous and cause muscle cramps, dizziness, headaches, nausea, and fainting. Older adults and young children, in particular, are susceptible to dehydration.
Recommendations vary depending on weight, age, and activity level, but a general guideline for how much water you should drink is 8, 8-ounce glasses each day. Another guideline is to divide your weight by 2 and drink that number in ounces. For example, a 150-pound person would need 75 ounces (150/2) of water per day. You should talk to your doctor to be sure that you’re drinking the right amount of water for your body type and your activity level.
Here are some more tips to help you stay hydrated:
One foolproof way to tell if you’re hydrated: urine color. An optimal lemonade-color is a sign of proper hydration. If it looks dark, like iced tea or apple juice, you’re not drinking enough water.
Don’t rely on thirst alone. Thirst can be one measure of hydration but it’s not the first means of feedback, so rehydrate before you feel too thirsty.
Choose foods with high water content like cucumbers, berries, citrus, melon, greens, and tomatoes. You can eat these foods as a snack or incorporate them into your meals.
Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks as they act as a diuretic, pulling water from the body rather than replacing it.
Carry a reusable water bottle with you that you can easily refill with tap water. You’ll save money and help the environment by choosing tap over bottled water. And try adding fruit or herbs to your water for added flavor without added sugar.

“My role in Aarakshan was inspired by Anand Kumar” – Amitabh Bachchan
The bio-pic on mathematical genius Anand Kumar which Vikas Bahl will helm and in which Hrithik Roshan will play Anand, is not the first cinematic homage to a man who has dedicated himself to the education of economically -challenged students.
Some years ago Amitabh Bachchan played a character based on Anand Kumar in Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan. Recently the two met up for an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati where Anand sat on the hot seat and walked away with a substantial amount of money. Says Mr Bachchan fondly, “Anand Kumar is such a noble soul and so committed to his work. In Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan, my character was inspired by him.”
Says Anand, “I was always a fan of Bachchan Saab. I grew up on his classics. I saw Zanjeer, Deewaar, Trishuland Amar Akbar Anthony repeatedly when I was a student. In college we would imitate his walk talk and swagger. I first got to meet him during the making of Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan. He was such a fine gentleman. Now when I met him again on KBC I realized he was also a great teacher. The wisdom and knowledge and the understanding of human nature that he brings to the hot seat make him an exemplary educationist. I learnt so much from just watching him on KBC. In fact I will be applying some of his skills in the classroom.”
About the money Anand won on KBC the humble and simple mathematician says, “I won Rs 25 lakhs on KBC. The entire sum goes into the education of my students and their betterment.” And now comes the news that Anand Kumar’s tryst with the KBC host will form a part of the bio-pic that Bahl is helming.

Entities controlled by Singapore property tycoon Kwek Leng Beng and his Malaysian billionaire cousin Quek Leng Chan have joined forces for the $980 million purchase of a freehold site in Singapore’s upscale River Valley precinct.
Their acquisition of Pacific Mansion in District 9 marks the biggest collective sale in more than a decade and the second-highest on record, according to CBRE, which brokered the deal.
Singapore-listed GuocoLand, controlled by Mr Quek, announced yesterday that it has successfully tendered for the site with Intrepid Investments and Hong Realty.
Both Intrepid Investments and Hong Realty are majority-owned by Hong Leong Investment Holdings (HLIH), which is effectively controlled by Mr Kwek, though other family members also own stakes in these companies.
GuocoLand and Intrepid Investments each hold a 40 per cent stake in the project, while Hong Realty owns a 20 per cent interest.
The latest deal marks the largest transaction in the current collective sale cycle, exceeding Tampines Court’s $970 million and Amber Park’s $907 million, and is surpassed only by the sale of Farrer Court for $1.34 billion in 2007.
CBRE director of capital markets Galven Tan said that the tender for Pacific Mansion drew interest from a handful of local and foreign developers.
Consultants estimate that the land cost for the Pacific Mansion site may translate to a break-even price of $2,530 to $2,800 per sq ft (psf), and a potential selling price of $3,000 to $3,200 psf for the upcoming project.
In just the first three months of this year, 14 collective sales have clocked total proceeds of $5.6 billion, which is already 64 per cent of the total proceeds of $8.7 billion from 30 collective sale sites for the whole of last year.
As HLIH is deemed a substantial shareholder of GuocoLand, Intrepid Investments and Hong Realty are deemed interested persons of GuocoLand under Singapore Exchange’s listing rules.
Pacific Mansion comprises 288 apartments and two commercial units. Owners representing more than 80 per cent of the strata area and share value of the development have consented to the collective sale. Each residential unit owner will stand to receive a gross payout of $3.26 million to $3.48 million. The shop units will receive between $2.2 million and $4.5 million.
Retiree Peter Chia, 60, who has been living in Pacific Mansion for the past 10 years, welcomed the news of the collective sale.
“It is a good price,” he said, adding that he has not decided where he will live in the future.
He said a new development could help breathe new life into the area, noting that the ageing property was not well-maintained.
But not everyone is glad. A resident, who wanted to be known only as Mr Lim, said he bought a three-bedroom apartment in Pacific Mansion in 2016 and would incur a 12 per cent seller’s stamp duty (SSD).
He said he has failed to get an SSD waiver from the authorities even though he did not sign on the collective sales agreement. The SSD, estimated to be $384,000, would have to be paid even before he receives the sale proceeds. “This defeats the purpose of the SSD because I am not a speculator,” said Mr Lim, adding that he spent $40,000 to $50,000 on renovations.

For generations, there were two topics deemed too taboo to discuss among family. Chief among them, money. The size of the family’s nest egg, monthly paychecks, or savings accounts? Not to be discussed, end of conversation. Even now, among a generation waking up to the power of vulnerability, the idea of pulling back the curtain on how we spend our money feels like the ultimate disclosure.
Context is Key
When your ten-year-old with a total net worth of $42.73 sees how much you and your spouse make, confusion can follow: “What?! I didn’t know we were gagillionaires! Why couldn’t I get that iPad?” However flattering it may be to have your child assert that your paycheck-to-paycheck income should land you a spot on the Forbes list, their lack of context for expenses can give them unrealistic expectation of your family’s lifestyle. Our advice? Start with the budget before talking income.
Framing Your Cost of Living
Make a master list of the expenses your family incurs in a given month. Rent, utilities, grocery store runs, gas, health insurance, eating out, and even those little league dues. If it comes out of your paycheck, write it down. For added critical thinking, create a game out of the exercise: have your child guess the amounts of each budget category before revealing their true numbers. The gap between assumption and reality can be eye opening, not to mention entertaining. Then talk through each line item.
The family car costs this much to fuel, this much to insurance, and this much to maintain…
Our house? There are bills to pay to keep the power on, the water running, and the trash collected…
Public school may be free, but your activity fees cost this much and lunches cost this much…
Making the Big Reveal
When the grand total has been revealed, it’s time to share the long-awaited number: income. Show a copy of your monthly paycheck, and explain any deductions for taxes and retirement. Then discuss how much your family saves and gives to charitable causes each month. So what’s left over? Two lessons should come out of this vulnerable exercise: first, that every dollar is accounted for in some manner. A decision to spend over here comes from somewhere else. Perhaps savings, or perhaps a different spending category. And the second lesson should be that the family will be fine if we all work together to spend carefully.
Making Space to Clear the Air
There are certainly a number of risks to opening the checkbook up to kids. They could tell their friends how much you make, for instance. But another is that it could cause unwanted concern. There’s a significant difference between showing that the family doesn’t’ have endless means for everyone’s whims, and spreading worry. As such, it’s vital that you assure your kids that the family is provided for, protected, and safe. Then, open the conversation to questions. Make space to clarify any worries or concerns.
When handled carefully, talking to your kids about the family’s budget will instill a sense of ownership and stewardship of the family’s resources. The next time they ask for a video game, they’ll understand why the answer is probably, “not right now.”

Taapsee Pannu is a busy girl as of now since she has kick started the promotions of her forthcoming film Judwaa 2 with her co-stars after the trailer hit the tube recently. But amidst all her work commitments, the actress has now extended her support to yet another cause related to women empowerment.
By now, readers may be aware that Taapsee Pannu has voluntarily made efforts to participate in causes related to gender equality and in support of women. While her films Pink and Naam Shabana have spread a similar message across the cinema medium, the actress continues to work on that front in real life too. Now, she has become a part of Techfest of IIT Bombay wherein she will be seen promoting sanitary education.
The initiative also includes distribution of sanitary napkins in villages & by organizing self-defense workshops for women. Taapsee Pannu was seen addressing and delivering a keynote on this at the Techfest. This will create more awareness and generate equality for women as Taapsee has been considered a role model to many women, given her strong and empowering roles.
Techfest is a great platform for Taapsee Pannu to take this message forward and speaking about the same, the actress said, ”I have never understood why mensuration has always been such a hushed topic and always has code words to address it or talk about it. Probably that’s one of the reasons why the sanitary health of women could not really improve because discussing about it freely was a taboo. It’s a natural and extremely critical aspect of womanhood which surely needs to be discussed and addressed so people understand it better. Delighted to see the students of IIT Bombay are working in this direction and extremely happy to extend my support for the same.”
As on the work front, Taapsee Pannu is gearing up for the release of Judwaa 2 which is slated to hit the big screen on September 29. It features the actress as the leading lady along with Jacqueline Fernandez whereas the leading man Varun Dhawan will be seen in a double role in the film.

The relationship between men and woman is no doubt the most discussed topic in world history. It just seems to be a neverending tale of squaring the circle; in other words, trying to unite male and female interests in harmony.
This challenge has over time given rise to many movements. A current movement seemingly gaining momentum is that of the Manosphere.
The Manosphere is in a short definition men who have just had enough. Enough of commitment and sacrifice in a world that offers nothing in return. Therefore they opt out of the traditional relationship, in some cases these men, know as MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way), even renounce any romantic interaction with women whatsoever, to exclusively pursue their own goals in life.
How did it come to this? Well, according to the Manosphere movement modern feminism and the welfare state would be the short answer. In contrast to the patriarchal system of older days (with all of it’s problems) the emergence of the welfare state has managed to swing the pendulum about as far in the opposite direction as it came from, which, of course, is what tends to happen with pendulums. Instead of acting as a counter balance to the power men had in relationships in the past, the welfare state, through child custody laws, alimony and social welfare programs, has shifted the power completely in the favour of women. Furthermore modern feminism with its hostility towards classic male values such as duty, loyalty and honor has managed to promote the inherent hypergamous nature of women, and thus imitate nature as to make the man the expendable sex.
Hypergamy, the practise of marrying or partnering up with someone of a higher socioeconomic status, is not some evil plot concocted by woman to exploit men though. It is simply a matter of evolutionary programming. Just like men are evolutionary programmed to spread their seeds as much as possible, and therefore are hardwired to be at least sexually interested in other women (even if not acting on it) no matter what woman they already have on their side, women are hardwired to be attracted to resourceful men, be it economically resourceful or in other ways in possession of high social status, that could provide them more value than their current partner.
Both sexes each have their particular evolutionary programming leading them to some extend. But to which extend? However important it is to recognise the completely different hardwiring of men and women it should not be forgotten to also view both men and women as individuals. This individuality combined with culture and zeitgeist determines to which extend we act on our evolutionary programming or suppress it in order to achieve our perceived optimum in life.
Here the argument by men in the western world often goes that in this day and age the cards are stacked against them; hence, the rise of the Manosphere. The stacking of the cards presents itself through the aforementioned modern feminism and the welfare state and its institutions: courts of law, social programs, schools as well as higher learning institutions and even the social sciences (most explicitly the gender study sciences, of course). Giving women this kind of power only reinforces what is known as Briffault’s Law:
“The female, not the male, determines all the conditions of the animal family. Where the female can derive no benefit from association with the male, no such association takes place.”
Basically women choose and men get chosen. And men get chosen on what they bring to the table in competition not only with other men but also with the state. So what does a man do apart from opting out?
Well, first of all it is important to understand the dynamics as described in this article and to figure out for yourself what it is that you want. Then comes the time to navigate remembering that we are all individuals with individual backgrounds. Some women are maybe 90% hypergamous whereas others might only be 50% hypergamous and they will act accordingly. These percentages obviously won’t be printed on their foreheads for everybody to read and may not even be static, they may vary due to circumstances – one of which could be you!
Let it be clear. Relationships are somewhat of a power struggle. For a man to have some power in a relationship it is important for him to know exactly which benefits he brings to the woman in the relationship and to be able to say no. It is also absolutely essential by no means to come across as being desparate and thereby signalling a lack of options. Options are leverage. One way any man can lever up could be by starting to see call girls. If a man gets comfortable seeing call girls on a regular basis, both if it fully or only partially covers his need for sex and intimacy, this option could become powerful leverage whether he is in a relationship or seeking one. Hidden leverage, of course, but nevertheless powerful by the way it influences his mindset. The confidence of having options is a man’s greatest asset in dealing with women.

The world of work is rapidly changing due to technology, globalization, and a new generation of workers. In this changing landscape, the ability to identify and develop capable leaders will be key to business success. However, companies are struggling to see what lies ahead and to help potential leaders develop the skills they will need. Here are the top takeaways:
The importance of soft skills
Soft skills are defined as personal attributes that enable one to interact effectively and harmoniously with others.
When thinking about soft skills in the world of technology, Professor David Van Kleeck shared that technical skills are fairly easy to come by. “It’s the soft stuff that is the hard stuff.” Soft skills are the differentiator between average and exceptional performers.
Engineers cannot just rely on analytical problem solving or technical skills – they have to develop the soft skills. They recognize that where they begin to struggle is in situations of ambiguity, dealing with people issues, solving real world problems – all of which highlights the need for soft skills training.
The most important soft skill is “supportive communication”, which includes active listening, being specific, and focusing on problems vs people. Being skilled at other soft skills such as facilitation, emotional intelligence, negotiation and conflict management all require communication skills as the foundation.
Steps to develop practical leadership skills.
Step 1: Build self awareness and understanding, via assessments, drills, self-reflection, and external feedback.
Step 2: Identify your strengths and weaknesses within the established leadership framework at your organization.
Step 3: Prioritize what you need to develop now vs. later, and form action plans to develop the skills. Plans should include getting help and continuous feedback from others such as a coach and your network.
Step 4: Go out and practice. You need to make the mistakes to learn and grow, seek leadership opportunities.
To develop these skills, Coursera offers many leadership and management courses. Prof. Van Kleeck teaches the Leadership Development for Engineers Specialization, targeting technical employees with 0-5 years of work experience, looking to grow their skills and move into a lead role.
How to measure the ROI of soft skills
Both presenters and attendees shared their approaches to demonstrating ROI.
Define an action plan based on the learning, then track your results on that action plan, with manager and team feedback on progress.
Conduct an upward feedback survey to rate the manager’s performance. Connect skills from training into the survey, to correlate efforts to those results.
Create forums for people to interact on what they learned, discuss situations.
Conduct 30/30s: Spend 30 minutes reviewing the past 30 days and and 30 minutes on what you will focus on the next 30 days.
Include soft skills competencies in Performance Review.
Perform pre & post tests to measure knowledge.
Prof. Van Kleeck takes an operational approach, by evaluating incremental improvements you get and costs you incur if you don’t develop these skills. Good coaching will make a difference in improving performance and employees will leave if they don’t get good coaching. A rule of thumb he uses with engineers is their portfolio of work needs to be worth 10x their salary. So improvements in that output can be attributed to training and coaching. And if you lose staff, the cost of replacing and ramping an employee means it can take a year to contribute at that 10x level. You need to be more creative in other functional areas that are less quantifiable. For example, in HR, you could measure churn reductions or increased job satisfaction.
Ways L&D professionals can facilitate the development process
Often the focus tends to be on the senior leadership level, but lower-level managers is where the rubber hits the road. L&D should also focus on developing these managers to lead their staff.
Make staff development a component of the annual performance plan for managers.
Engage multiple levels of leaders in developing an individual. The immediate manager has a good view of performance, the skip level manager can provide better mentoring opportunities.
Leadership and management courses such as those offered through Coursera can build needed skills and provide support at scale.

Its no secret that brand have discovered Instagram for quiet a while to announce and promote their products, new arrivals and company. Now more and more brands are getting on the Instagram Story train because it offers many options for them.
1. Behind-the-scenes content
Instagram itself is the place to show your brand new product all in fine and high end polished quality, only the best pictures make it on the brands IG page. Story now offers a way to show the behind the scenes process. How a picture is taking maybe from the shooting itself a live feed or something similar in order to let the clients participate even more.
How cool would it be to see a new sports outfit as a picture and then be able to get inside pictures and videos from the actual shooting. This option is possible and can be used in every area and every industry from small to bis companies from tec to food no matter what there are no limits. A restaurant for example could show a brand new dish in Instagram and in Stories the entire process of preparing from the kitchen. A fitness influencer could post pictures of a new dish and in Stories show how he is doing the shopping for it for example on a local market.
2. How to overcome the algorithm
Just like its big brother Facebook, Instagram implemented an algorithm to show its customers preferred content in the feed, things they might be especially interested in.
For Stories Instagram has not yet decided if the content is shown in chronological order or depending on ones interest. One thing is sure Stories can be a valuable addition for a brands social strategy and with some experimentation can lead to increased customer loyalty, more customers and finally more sales.
3. Takeovers
Takeovers or collaboration are very common of Snapchat meaning that one brand lends its account to another in order to share content for a set period of time. This would also a very possible and interesting option on Instagram Stories for brand to collaborate with each other and or influencers.
4. More 1:1 communication
One of the biggest attractions of social media since its beginning is the chance to theoretically (not always possible due to the high traffic) be able to speak to your favourite sports person, actor,brand…. With Stories this possibility has returned and brand should make use of this. They could have Q and A sessions in which the listeners send questions via Message Direct and those will be answered in the story. Also brands can send customized video messages to followers.
5. Live, timely content
One of the hottest topics on social media right now is Live Video Content and Stories could be a great option to give this to its audience, being able to have an engaging audience and a live content is a great opportunity.
Facebook Live feed for example has been used for make up tutorials, fitness sessions or even exhibition openings so why not use Stories in similar ways to attract and bind customers.
Conclusion
Stories could make a big impact for Instagram and shift the platform a great deal forward. Snapchat has shown the great need and interest in live feed and everyday stories and if Instagram manages to position Stories it can have a huge impact.

BREAKING: Judwaa 2 gets 5 Cuts, ‘UA’ Certificate
David Dhawan’s eagerly awaited Judwaa 2 has been cleared with a ‘UA’ certificate and 5 visual and verbal cuts. Some of these cuts have done away with double meaning dialogues. One of the dialogues that have been ordered out has a reference to ‘doodh’ vis a vis a woman’s breasts. ‘Ghanta’ and ‘Akhrot’ (a common euphemism for testicles) have been ordered out of the film.
In addition, some shots from two songs featuring Varun Dhawan have also been ordered out.
A source informs, “The cuts were implemented so that kids who are a major part of Varun Dhawan’s fan club, can watch the film.”
