REVEALED: Kapil Sharma asserts that his health is the only reason behind his break
With a fresh controversy being brewed related to Kapil Sharma, there have been several speculations regarding the break that the actor-comedian has taken from his ongoing comedy show The Kapil Sharma Show. From rumours of him being thrown out of the channel owing to low TRPs to him joining a rehab to deal with alcoholism, several such reports have been doing the rounds and now, Kapil Sharma has decided to put an end to all.
Kapil Sharma is currently in Bengaluru undergoing a treatment for anxiety, blood pressure and sugar problems. The popular stand-up comedian asserted that he is indeed extremely unwell which is a result of his unbalanced diet and hence is taking up Ayurvedic treatment to deal with the issues. He explained that since he has been working for the past 10 years without a break and ignoring his health in the process, he now wants to focus on the same before his health condition worsens.
Denying that the break from the show is a consequence of low TRPs, Kapil Sharma asserted that he continues to share a great camaraderie with the Sony officials and that the channel has been supportive even when he asked for a break. Furthermore, he also quashed the ongoing reports about his arrogant behaviour towards Shah Rukh Khan stating that he wouldn’t jeopardize his biggest source of income by disrespecting a superstar like Shah Rukh Khan. He also appreciated the niceness and kindness with which the superstar has always behaved towards him and also about how much he respects Mr. Khan. He also clarified that he wouldn’t make any superstar or any other person wait for his show.
If that wasn’t enough, the comedian turned actor also spoke about his ‘big fight’ with Sunil Grover wherein the reports claimed that he had allegedly hurled a shoe at Grover in a drunken state. Terming it to be an accident, Kapil admitted that the incident, which happened when he was shooting with Sunil for seven days a week, was wrong on his part. He maintained that it was the result of him grappling about 50 things and hence wasn’t able to handle the situation tactfully. He however extended his best wishes to co-star Sunil Grover for his future endeavours.
Talking about his alleged romance Preeti Simoes walking out of his life as well as their fallout professionally that resulted in her starting up a new show titled The Drama Company, all Kapil Sharma had to say was that he never asked anyone to leave or be a part of the show. While he and Sunil had prior to this sorted out their differences as the latter even returned to the show, Kapil continued to state that even now, he would be happy to welcome anyone who wants to re-join the show. He also wished Preeti all the luck for her new show and added that personal equations do not decide his professional moves.
As for his own return, Kapil revealed that his treatment would be completed by the end of September and that he would be back with the show on Sony network once he finishes the promotions of his film Firangi. He also added that Firangi is almost on the verge of completion and that only the shoot of a promotional video and a song is left to be shot in Mumbai.

Minimal Effort has become something of New Years Eve tradition for me. This year was my third year in a row attending the event put on by Underrated Presents. And out of the three years I attended, I would say it was easily my favorite. Unfortunately, I don’t know that everyone in attendance would agree with that statement.
Between this year’s treat of a well-executed Halloween event and the new open bar option for VIP, I had high hopes for Minimal’s NYE. Unfortunately, adding the new VIP packages and heavily promoting them seemed to be one new element too many for Minimal. I am not sure if there was a breakdown in communication with the security at the Belasco, but around 11:30 the GA line to enter was wrapped around one side of the block and the VIP line was spilling into the space of the venue next door.
Once inside, with five different stages and the always refreshing and visually stimulating vendor area at the center, Minimal Effort NYE was a blast! I started my night off in the dungeon of The Belasco with SuperFlu before quickly racing up to the ballroom to try and meet up with my friends to ring in NYE with Justin Jay. Unfortunately, I do not have the best sense of direction and ended up getting lost along the way (which isn’t a difficult situation to find yourself in the maze that is the Belasco) and I ended up at the main stage dancing 2018 out of my system to Sasha as the clock struck midnight. Personally, I actually enjoyed having this moment just to myself and felt like it kind of set the tone for the new year. I had a sense of well-being knowing I could take my life and happiness into my own hands and not sweat the small stuff such as getting lost in a maze of a venue. After Sasha, I split the next couple hours again going up and down the Belasco stairs so I could see both Hats & Klaps and one of my favorite Dirtybirds, Will Clarke, before ending the night with a bassy, grimy set by Skream. If there is one thing that Minimal Effort has managed to always get right it is always having a killer lineup that makes each year an irresistible techno retreat. But, having been to a handful of Minimal Effort events over the years, there are still some issues they need to iron out as they continue to grow and bring in larger and louder crowds.
This leads to the only other complaint I heard throughout the night: the open bar. While this seemed like a great idea when it was first announced, this new perk just didn’t quite live up to the hopes of those who spent the extra money. While I did not have access to the open bar, a couple of my friends purchased VIP tickets and their report of the new “Open Bar” was overwhelmingly unimpressed. Overzealous security, again, was the main source of complaint. Once in the bar area, you could not leave with any sort of liquid (including water) which meant anyone who had a mix of GA tickets and VIP tickets had to choose between being with their friends or staying where they could get a free drink. While I understand they don’t want one person in a group getting a VIP ticket and then supplying a large group of friends who purchased GA tickets with drinks throughout the night, the way it was handled made anyone I knew who had the VIP option not want to use it. Also, if an artist is DJing an event, I think we can all agree they should be able to access the VIP open bar. If not to get a free drink for their hard work, then as an extra perk for the fans in the VIP area who would have had a kick out of hanging out with them.
While neither the long line nor open bar missteps had much of an effect on my night, it was a sore spot amongst many who attended leading to several dissatisfied comments on the event’s social media. Overall, Minimal Effort NYE definitely has room to improve as far as organization and perhaps choice in staff and venue. But with the lineup these guys bring year after year, I honestly can’t imagine ringing New Years Eve at any other festival.
Note: I did not come up with the title to this review. I have to dedicate that to an amazing group of weirdos that have been my friends, family, and whose support was the only thing that kept me sane in 2018.

I recently had the opportunity to set up my own gear and listen to a Genesis 201 Loudspeaker System on display at a local hi-fi shop. These speakers are unusual in that they place the low-range drivers into their own cabinet, relegating the midrange drivers and ribbon tweeters to a separate enclosure. The woofers are powered by their own custom Genesis amplifier. I employed my own source and DAC, with Genesis-branded pre- and power-amps. Since these speakers are no longer available, this is not a review but just my thoughts on listening to them and my experience overall.

First Impressions
Just simply walking into the room, I’m amazed at the sheer size of these speakers. I am six feet tall and the 201s tower over me. The number of drivers in each speaker was a sight to behold, they seemed to have endless potential for sound. They require bi-amplification to ensure they have enough power while the woofer towers are driven by their own Genesis power amplifier.
Listening
Breaking Benjamin Ashes of Eden is one of my favorite songs for speaker auditions. The music feels as if it’s slipping away into space as you listen. Mids and lows balanced perfectly with the high range as it neared the two-minute mark. I really loved the amount of space this song filled as the speakers pushed beyond what I thought possible.

Our Last Night Skyfall Cover has some of the best male vocals I’ve heard, while also having some low punchy bass to keep the tone of song. Soundstage and imaging was simply amazing. Clear and crisp vocals really shone through and revealed things I’ve never heard before. I probably listened to this song over a dozen times.
PVRIS My House features electronic bass and female vocals as highlights. The speakers kept things tight and smooth, while also allowing the music to creep around the room. The chorus can feel crowded at times but the speakers managed to pull it apart like never before. Endless bass was a term that kept coming to mind as I listened.

Other thoughts
CThe fit and finish on these speakers is good, but for the price the 201s cost new, I would have preferred to see a real wood finish rather than veneer. That would make them really sparkle in a listening room. I really enjoyed my time with these amazing speakers. If you ever get the chance to hear the Genesis 201 Loudspeaker System, give it a shot, you will be wowed!

Amitabh Bachchan battles pain to deliver perfect action for Thugs Of Hindostan
Amitabh Bachchan, who has wrapped up a tough, demanding schedule for Yash Raj Films’ mega movie Thugs Of Hindostan at Malta recently, shows what it takes to define professionalism and passion for cinema during this shoot. Filming with Mr. Bachchan brought in emotional moments for the film’s writer-director Vijay Krishna Acharya.
Amitabh Bachchan had wrapped up his portions and was all set to fly out after an extra day’s work when a shooting pain in his lower back kept growing exponentially. Filming for the action scenes in Malta for Thugs Of Hindostan had actually resulted in a minor injury for the mega star. He cracked his upper left rib, but continued to work despite excruciating pain. Given that the film’s shoot was working to a tight schedule, he continued to shoot, dealing with this pain. Which is why, on the last day, writer and director of Thugs Of Hindostan, Vijay Krishna Acharya wanted to avoid shooting given the pain the megastar was facing. But instead, Mr. Bachchan chose to complete the shoot.
“To me, having Mr. Bachchan on set, for Thugs Of Hindostan was an extra ordinary experience in itself. I have grown up idolizing him and am an absolute fan of his 70s films like Deewar. That he would have to deal with pain had me worried. I had offered to reschedule the last day’s shoot but he insisted on completing these portions and actually did a fine job! The kind of professional focus, commitment and sheer love for cinema he has is quite unmatched. I am overwhelmed, as is the unit that also worked at 100 percent to make this day’s work easier.”
It was only on his return to Mumbai that an MRI was done on doctor’s orders, and the source of this terrible pain was found. Despite a cracked rib, Amitabh Bachchan continued to focus on the film’s shoot and push himself. Not many in the world of cinema anywhere can match up to his professionalism, one that leaves a lasting impression on his crews forever.
An entertainer that deals with a period of adventure and action on the high seas, Thugs Of Hindostan has been partially shot on two massive ships put up on the coast of Malta, Europe. An imaginative journey, this mega flick co-stars Aamir Khan with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time ever and also features Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh.

His favourite co-star Alia Bhatt has collaborated with Coexist to rescue animals and help them and now Varun Dhawan wants to contribute his bit to the society. The actor, who is currently in the midst of promoting his forthcoming film Judwaa 2, has taken a major step to help cancer patients, especially children.
Varun Dhawan is now the face of 1SmallStepforCancer campaign which aims at building emergency fund for child cancer and it was kick started from September 12 onwards. 1SmallStepforCancer is a fundraising campaign by 1SmallStep Foundation is association with Rotary Club of Mumbai Queens Necklace. The goal of 1SmallStepforCancer.com is to raise Rs. 1Cr and help 1,000 children complete their cancer treatment.
Talking about being associated with the initiative, Varun Dhawan said, “I have personally spent some time with children suffering from cancer and it’s amazing to see how bravely they fight this disease. It always inspires and humbles me and I am glad to be part of this much needed initiative #1SmallStepForCancer. It’s very sad to know in our country 4 out of 10 children are forced to abandon their treatment midway. This Emergency Fund that we are building will help up to 1,000 such children survive cancer.”
Besides him, yet another actor who is working towards raising funds and providing extensive cancer treatment to patients is none other than Emraan Hashmi.

Among the beautiful bays and public parks of Whatcom County and beyond, I find something hidden (sometimes not so hidden) that seems to reemerge every time I look.
Unfortunately, that hidden something is… garbage.
During my ventures collecting and sorting trash, I’ve found there’s an astonishing amount of garbage that’s invisible if you’re not paying attention. It’s only when you’re actively searching for trash do you find the cigarette butt wedged in the parking block, the bottle under some driftwood, or bag precariously hanging from the limb of a bush.
Each year, over 14 million tons of plastic makes its way into our oceans, costing the world economy an estimated $13 billion. How can we even begin to give communities tools to tackle such a global problem?
That’s why people around the world are taking it upon themselves to find, clean up, and identify what exactly is being littered and where. RE Sources and partners, along with some intrepid volunteers, are at the forefront of testing out effective, easy-to-use methods of better understanding what types of trash are polluting which oceans and beaches, to better inform our local efforts to curb plastic pollution.
We’re finally starting to develop systems that allow us to scientifically categorize trash in different types of landscapes. And it’s not well-funded companies or research groups doing the heavy lifting, either; people in local communities are stepping up to test and improve these new systems to understand plastic, metal, and glass pollutants and how we can reduce their impact.
That’s what makes this so exciting and is why I got involved. Anyone can step in and make a difference in this field, whether they’re collecting data from a clean-up or simply helping to reduce litter on a beach.
In our community, I’ve worked primarily with RE Sources, helping the Environmental Protection Agency do trial runs on their own trash data collection system, the Escaped Trash Assessment Protocol (ETAP), with the goal of helping them refine it. We’ve been going through the tedious efforts of gathering trash in a specific plot of ground, sorting all the trash into 45 specific categories, then weighing, counting, and taking pictures. The process is time-consuming, but it does yield important data; data that can, for instance, make strides in providing more trash receptacles and informational signage relevant to the most abundant litter. The most interesting part of this work has been seeing what types and quantity of litter we find in areas across Whatcom County.
People are coming together worldwide to combat coastal pollution everywhere. The annual International Coastal Cleanup is a great example of how widespread this work is. Ocean Conservancy hosts this event as a whole, but it’s up to individual community groups and organizations, like RE Sources and the Northwest Straits Surfrider chapter, to gather people together and clean thousands of pounds of trash from our beaches. Programs like ETAP can improve the efficacy of these cleanups and help us get more out of them.
I must say, I’m impressed by the amount of people willing to spend their weekend afternoons collecting trash on the shore. The stewardship community members exhibit at these events fills me with hope for our ability to make a change. People are willing to bring supplies and properly dispose of trash and recyclables gathered. It’s not always easy putting a wet bag of trash in your car!

This week at the Stew, some of us were inspired by a series of disparate recent events to send some love and sentiments out to young gamers, especially those who are marginalized. We wrote these letters to our younger selves, because in you, we see ourselves, and we hope that we can give you the words of encouragement we needed to hear. You are welcome in this space.
Dear little Senda,
There’s a trick to it, not letting it get to you. We’ve internalized it so much already—all the stereotypes that tell us we aren’t the people who play games, who run games, who write games, who work in this industry. I’m not saying I’ve got this down pat now, because the impostor syndrome still gets me. The trick is, as hard as it is, to do it anyway. And when you do it, you prove to that little voice you can, and it gets easier every time.

It’s Okay To Love Your Games
Okay, past me. You love games and you know you do, and you do that thing where you admit it grudgingly, laughingly downplaying your passion so that others won’t be uncomfortable. You say things like “oh, I’m just a player. I can’t imagine running a game.” I have some news for you. You can run a game. Your ideas are good, and people like them. It’s okay not to know every single rule in the book backwards and forwards. You don’t need to. These are your friends. You can craft this experience together. You will help each other out. When you don’t know, it’s okay to ask – even if you’re running the game – whether it’s grapple rules or what to name this NPC. No matter how it may seem from the outside, GMing is a set of skills (some people would say eight but I’m not committing) that is completely learnable and teachable. There is no magical master GM springing forth fully formed from Zeus’s head. They are not some rare breed. There is a game that will work for you, that you will enjoy running, and it’s out there—and you can do it!
I know you tried running D&D, and then Pathfinder, and it didn’t really work for you. It made you nervous, flustered, feeling like you couldn’t track all the moving parts of your carefully constructed adventure. That’s totally okay, although once you can let go of your players having to follow your exact path, it will become easy to run nearly anything. Sure, knowing the rules helps keep things smoother at the table, but it’s your ability to have a story, to think like water (allowing it to move and shift so you are never at a loss) that makes running anything possible. Heck, here we are, ten years later, having run a 4e campaign without ever having read the book whatsoever. And that game was awesome. Don’t let it hold you back.

And There’s More
And now . . . it’s not just that I believe in you to run games. I know you can. With a little bit of chutzpah to get over that initial hump, to get that first good game going and the energy clicking at the table, I know you will be hooked. Now I know you are saying “I just play games. I run them too, but I don’t know enough to write them.” Except . . . you do.
Shakily, with not very much confidence right now, like a new foal. To build confidence, the foal uses its legs more, and learns to walk. To build confidence, you can start with little games, or commenting on games you play, or internalizing their mechanics and seeing why they’re there, what the designer put them there to do. And having seen why something is there, looking in to that next layer, you can do this too.
Sometimes, no matter how much you know and how much you’ve done and how involved you are, someone is going to ask you if you have a right to be there.
You can talk through why something works and why it doesn’t. You can learn this language—you have been learning this language, without even meaning to. And now, you can write games too. It’s just the same, a little bit of determination to get over that first hump, just like GMing. A little bit of bravery. I believe in you, and now it’s your turn to believe in yourself too.
You Belong Here
Sometimes, no matter how much you know and how much you’ve done and how involved you are, someone is going to ask you if you have a right to be there. They won’t say that exactly, they’ll say something like “What games do you run?” or “What games have you written?” or “How long have you been playing RPGs?” And they’re saying it because they’re trying to decide if they think you have enough cred for them to care about your opinion. It doesn’t matter how many games you’ve played. It doesn’t matter how many games you’ve run. It doesn’t matter how many games you’ve written or if they’re published or not. You have the right to be here. You do belong here. This is your space too. And when they ask you those questions, my friend Kate from Blue Stockings has some suggestions you can use to prepare yourself with appropriate responses, because it can be really hard to think in those moments.
Return the question—ask them their qualifications.
Point out what they are doing: “Why do you need my credentials? Are you asking how important my opinion is?”
Walk away. Sometimes, these people are not worth engaging. You do not have to defend yourself and your passion to these people. You are worthy and you do get to be in this space as well. And you are worthy of safety and comfort in your games and at your tables.
Sometimes it’s not other people, though. Sometimes you cred check yourself before anyone else even has a chance. You already know what they’ll say, and it’s the same every time: you don’t have enough experience to do this, you don’t know this well enough, you haven’t practiced enough, you’re not prepared. You are your own worst critic. This is the part where you have to take a deep breath, trust yourself, and leap. The worst case scenarios are not as bad as your head would like you to believe, and even if it doesn’t come out the way you envisioned, it’s still okay. It’s still a triumph because you did it. It’s still a stepping stone. It’s still creation, it’s still passion, it’s still forward momentum. So take it. Don’t let yourself hold you back from being passionate and creative in the activities that make you passionate and creative.
There is one last thing I want you to remember. You can make a difference. By existing in these spaces and supporting each other, we’re all making a difference. And we can tell the next people how worthy they are, and that their passion is valid, so that they can tell the next, and the next. And we can all belong in this space, together.
