This turtle would come up on the beach every afternoon

Some wildlife we came upon while hiking in Cuyahoga National Park.

Small box turtle that we rescued from being run over in the middle of a busy road in Cape Cod MA. We saw him literally in the middle of the road about to step out into oncoming traffic. We stopped, picked him up, took him in the car and drove further up into the woods to release him. He returned the favor by posing for a few photos before retreating into his shell.

Different day , same turtle , same log. I don't think he moved since my last visit !

This marine turtle was slowly cruising the lagoon of the Aldabra Atoll, and got curious. It swam around me for a long time before it finally posed perfectly and I could get this shot! Patience is all...

This big ol' one-eyed snapping turtle was found along a road in Westminster. It was rescued from certain doom by one of our kindly bio lab assistants and will soon be living in a nearby park. He's enjoying a fresh spinach leaf.

Woah, my turtle! She's HUGE, and eats only meat and fish. Beware, she's dangerous. She should be about ten years old now...I bought her with another turtle: they were called Tarta and Ruga ( Tartaruga=turtle in Italian). Unfortunately, Tarta died ^_^'

Per gli italiani: Ecco la mia enorme tartaruga Ruga, che mangia solo carne, è vecchia ed è pericolosa. Ne avevo due: Tarta e Ruga X'D ma Tarta morta ^_^'

London Zoo is the world's oldest scientific zoo. It was opened in London on 27 April 1828, and was originally intended to be used as a collection for scientific study. It was eventually opened to the public in 1847 Today it houses a collection of 755 species of animals, with 15,104 individuals, making it one of the largest collections in the United Kingdom.

It is managed under the aegis of the Zoological Society of London (established in 1826), and is situated at the northern edge of Regent's Park , on the boundary line between City of Westminster and Camden (the Regent's Canal runs through it). The Society also has a more spacious site at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire to which the larger animals such as elephants and rhinos have been moved. As well as being the first scientific zoo, ZSL London Zoo also opened the first Reptile house (1849), first public Aquarium (1853), first insect house (1881) and the first children's zoo (1938).

ZSL receives no state funding and relies on 'Fellows', 'Friends', 'Members', entrance fees and sponsorship to generate income.

A little turtle we found in the middle of the road (In Amish country!).

Today, Miss Turtle was found walking through my back yard. In the past I have found her enjoying Mulberries fallen off my Mulberry tree. Today, maybe she was looking for a handout snack from me. :)

FYI: Box turtles generally grow slowly, reaching sexual maturity at between 7 and 10 years of age and 5 or 6 inches in length. Once mature, a female box turtle will lay between 3 and 6 eggs each spring in a shallow nest. The eggs are left unguarded and hatch in the late summer or early fall. Box turtles commonly reach 25-30 years of age, and there are well-documented cases of them living to 40 or even 50 years.

Box turtle on one of the trails at McConnell Springs Park.

Look close... with claws and armor like that you would think he was built for battle.

Topics that I covered during my studies of photography was nature and the details of it, things that would not generally be paid much attention to, focusing on macro photography.

Along with with the topic of relationships, this photograph fits in with both of my topics as this photograph shows the intricate details of the turtle, along with the fact that this is the pet of somebody very close to me.

I particularly like this photographs as the details of the turtle become much more noticeable when up close, I also enjoy the relationship between the pet and owner and feel as if this was shown by the caring and gentle hand holding the turtle.

Turtles are taking full advantage of the logs and rocks within the ponds of Cox Arboretum Metropark...almost pictured as much as Zipp.
