222 : Renault R11 Turbo
Barcelona, Spain
The next 6 pictures are a bit special for me, as I'd never seen an R11 Turbo, Ronda Crono or a Malaga in my life. The three of them were very high on my 'pray to see' list while in Spain and Portugal and I was able to see all three in the space of a 5min walk around an outer suburb of Barcelona!
Not only that, I also got to do it with a now good friend, Alex or 'Alpus', who I managed to meet up with while he too was in Barcelona. Alex is the fist ever 'Flickr' member I've met in person and it seemed so strange to have to do it over the other side of the world from where I am.
Apologies Alex for uploading these special finds before you had the chance!! Haha!

Name: Ende TURBO
Type: Rumble
Pilot: Alphonse Zoener
Special Ability: “Over road”
Description: Ende was updated to become more resistant and more aerodinamic, with reinforced chest and lower leg armor, the head was redesigned as well, as part of a branding strategy, it was made similar to the Spina model, that way, they are branded as the Twin racers.
Its special moves remains the same, just stronger.

So, as I saw the Ende next to the Spina on my shelf, I noticed that even if the have the same basic frame, the heads didn't match, so I made them similar just in that, and added more silver and some new stickers, I think it looks better now, the "skates were reinforced, and added some support directional flaps on the lower legs, the chest was also redesigned a bit, with a more fluid and bulkier shape.

Looks like a track car, interior was stripped out too. Bet it goes nicely. Bonus second Saab in the background.
Looks so much nicer in Speed Yellow than in some obvious silver or black.

Name: Gigas TURBO
Type: Rumble
Pilot: Niko Rocco
Special Ability: Hyper ram!
Description: Gigas was updated with additional armor, and a replacement for the Hyper Ram wheels, the new system is a retractile high torque wheel, and while it loses strength off road, it gains speed, and with the additional armor, it now hits harder than ever, just don't get on his way.
- Build Notes -
I had to update Gigas. When I saw it next to the new ones, I knew it had to be better, and I replaced the big wheels for a system that I think looks better and gives the Gigas a better shape. I ended up redesigning the arms and the lower legs, the chest I still like 100%, and that might never change.

The Renault 5 Maxi Turbo is one of my all-time favorite vehicles and certainly one that cemented in my (then) young brain the idea of cramming a large, powerful motor into a tiny flexible package to create an entirely new kind of wonderfully freakish monster.
With this build I was particularly focused on wanting the rear air intakes to be brick-built and have actual visual depth, and I wanted the rear to be wider than the front which is a key visual trait of this car. That led me to the idea of attempting the build as a 6-wide front and 7-wide rear.
Interplay between the 6-wide and 7-wide sections created room to take advantage of some nice offsets for the rear hatch, both vertical and horizontal, as well as to find nice positions for the tail lamps and the rear venting. As always with SC scale, this is a mere caricature of the glorious original, but the madness of this little beast is evident.
On the detailing front, I used graphic inserts for the fog lights, headlights and tails to help give some definition and pump up the texture just a bit. Giving the car more dimension and scale detail in this way is a technique I’m increasingly happy with.
I hope you enjoy!
