The Renault 5 Maxi Turbo is one of my all-time favorite vehicles and certainly one that cemented in my (then) young brain the idea of cramming a large, powerful motor into a tiny flexible package to create an entirely new kind of wonderfully freakish monster.
With this build I was particularly focused on wanting the rear air intakes to be brick-built and have actual visual depth, and I wanted the rear to be wider than the front which is a key visual trait of this car. That led me to the idea of attempting the build as a 6-wide front and 7-wide rear.
Interplay between the 6-wide and 7-wide sections created room to take advantage of some nice offsets for the rear hatch, both vertical and horizontal, as well as to find nice positions for the tail lamps and the rear venting. As always with SC scale, this is a mere caricature of the glorious original, but the madness of this little beast is evident.
On the detailing front, I used graphic inserts for the fog lights, headlights and tails to help give some definition and pump up the texture just a bit. Giving the car more dimension and scale detail in this way is a technique I’m increasingly happy with.
I hope you enjoy!

On Brighton Pier. I stood for ages waiting to try and get a shot of people actually on this ride, but it was too hot to wait around all day!

I'm seeing if I really like the over exposed wall in the back. I had a different version, but edited it.

Turbo haben wir den kleinen schwarzen Beutelteufel getauft, weil er immer so durchs Gehege schießt, so daß man ihn kaum erwischen kann. Zoo Duisburg

B107LPH is something of a survivor and we like those kind of buses here ! Despite best attempts to write it off when almost brand new with London Country it survived. It went on to give good service before coming to East Yorkshire and moving around somewhat. By the early 00s it was based near Oxford and was hired to HSBC as a publicity / hospitality suite for HSBC bank. It later came back north to a company near Burnley who specialised in high end lighting and trade shows, they had no issue in taking it abroad which included shows in the States & Europe. It was reported they spent over 45k on conversion, considering they have supplied for world-famous schemes including Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai I presume money wasn't an issue ! It later was sold to a church group in Cumbria but is now with an owner in West Yorkshire.
Another Turbo! This one had the alloys that I've seen before on an 11 Turbo, not sure if they were ever standard on the 18 or just been swapped at some point.
This garage was in a beautiful location, as I was taking my photos paragliders were landing in a field out the back.
Detail, in false colour, of the concealed lighting in a Networker Turbo train.
For Sunday Sliders… HSS…!
The Porsche 935 was introduced in 1976, as the factory racing version of the Porsche 911 turbo prepared for FIA-Group 5 rules. It was an evolution of the Porsche Carrera RSR 2.1 turbo prototype, the second place overall finisher in the 1974 24 Hours of Le Mans.
