In the immortal words of Rocky and Bullwinkle, "and now, time for something different".
Many, many, many months ago, I was at Square One waiting for a transaction meet up (for the Fate prize figure, in case you were wondering) and as I usually am prone to do I wandered into the Disney Store.
Disney merch is kind of a mixed bag. For sure it's a place where they gouge you, but there can be some neat surprises there - exclusive surprises, I might add. I actually do like some of the sculpts on their larger dolls, but they don't quite fit anywhere in my collection.
During this particular trip, I happened across the Avengers line from the new Disney Toybox collection, which are of course kid-ified action figures of various Disney properties, like something out of Kingdom Hearts. It's almost like Disney repurposed the Infinity designed team.
Naturally, I gravitated towards Black Widow.
Opening up the figure, I offer up the following observations.
First off, for whatever reason (I'm guessing budget.. again), Widow does not have her comic style yellow belt, as advertised on the back of the box. Who knows.. maybe yellow paint costs more due to multiple layers.. I dunno. Overall, this figure seems to be inspired by a combination of all her appearances, ranging from the red short hair (Avengers), black body suit (Age of Ultron/Civil War), yellow bracelets (comic), and her weapon (Infinity War).
The actual figure itself has a decent amount of articulation. It's no Figma, but it's much better than what I grew up with. Pretty much the figure is ball joints all around. No waist, ab, or neck post movement, or tilting ankles.
Kind of light on the accessories, basically consisting of the figure and her weapon.
Her quarterstaff can be segmented and dual wielded and for some reason, seem more in scale with this figure than the Figuarts version was. Or maybe I just girls with big sticks.
Yes, interpret that as you must.
The sticks are designed in such a way that I suspect has to do with child safety laws (the staff splits in half, and the handle comes off the sticks as well), which allows for a neat holstered mode on her back. It's just that, as one would suspect, the QC is kind of crap and as a result things tend to fall apart very easily... yet I still managed to not lose this thing.
The sculpting is quite nice - simplistic but still portraying the character quite well and as mentioned above, very reminiscent of the Infinity series figure. The body is functional, though perhaps due to the smaller size the joints aren't as unsightly as its Marvel Legends counterparts. Production didn't leave an unacceptable number of poor finishes on the plastic.
The paint is... not bad. The body paint apps are actually pretty sharp, but it's not like there's a whole lot to actually do on the figure. Face paint apps are a mixture of "pretty good" and "dollar store", so in other words pretty typical for a Disney toy.
So is this something that I'd collect the whole line of? Not personally, but this isn't really my niche, as it were.
I think kids with connections to the various properties will dig these, though Lord have mercy upon the souls of the poor parents, as these are about $19 here in Ontario after taxes. I'm crossing my fingers that my kids don't have a Disney fetish.. so far, so good.
As an adult collector though with a desire to collect North American toys, it's a tough call. The Marvel Legends stuff is definitely larger and comes with more accessories and maybe more articulation, but it seems the final product is cleaner on these toys. Having said that, you're never going to get the full line up from Disney, nor are you going to get the "grown up" look, so at the end of the day, it's probably going to be a supplemental line.

. . . in a very, very long time. One of the great things about taking a break from mailling is all of the other stuff that I've gotten done including organizing my work room. It's really coming along nicely. It's turned into a bigger project than I thought simply because instead of just reorganizing, I'm also going through things and throwing things away. Slowly, but surely. Hopefully, I'll have more pic's to share in the coming weeks of a clean, organized, beautiful work space.

Dudley District Hall
This hall was opened by The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon D N Brookman MP, 22 September 1961. The building incorporates the Penneshaw Rural Transaction Centre and was opened by the Hon Wilson Tuckey MP, Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government, 27 September 2002.
The Dudley District Hall at Penneshaw took the place of the earlier Penneshaw Institute Hall built 1911 and demolished in the 1960s after being deemed unsafe.
*New Penneshaw Institute Hall opened
For some considerable time past residents of Penneshaw and district have been working hard to erect the much-needed new Institute Hall, and Thursday last saw their efforts completed, and a new and commodious hall at their disposal.
Arrangements had been made for the members for the district to be present and open the hall, but it being impossible for them to attend, that honour fell to Mrs W Howard, who in a brief and well-chosen speech declared the hall open.
At the dinner a happy time was spent by all attending, the success of which is due to the energetic way in which the ladies worked together in preparing for the event and waiting on the tables.
In the evening a grand concert, followed by a supper and dance, was held, at which Mr Howard presided. Mr L E Clark gave a short address and read the balance-sheet. He announced that there was still a debt on the building but felt assured that it would be soon wiped off by a continuance of the splendid support which had been accorded in the past.
A pleasant programme followed with supper after: dancing was then begun and proved a very pleasant termination to an enjoyable day.
We understand that about £20 was netted on the day's proceedings. [Ref: The Kangaroo Island Courier Sat 2-9-1911]
*Proposed Institute Improvements
A public meeting was called for Monday August 6th by the Penneshaw Institute Hall Committee for the purpose of discussing improvements needed at the Institute Hall.
The Chairman (Mr E L Bates) presided and after some discussions and many suggestions, it was decided to build two cloak rooms and improve the present building by putting on a new roof, putting down a new floor and a better lighting system.
Arrangements for these improvements are left in the hands of the Committee who will no doubt carry them out satisfactorily. [Ref: The Kangaroo Island Courier 11-8-1934]
*Penneshaw branch of the CWA celebrated its 5th birthday on 2 December.
The hall which had been painted and calsomined by a band of Progress Association workers looked very clean and fresh. The floral decorations were beautifully arranged showing much time spent by CWA members. [Ref: Kangaroo Island Courier 8-12-1950]

Popularised through his book "Games People Play", Eric Berne's theory of transactional analysis suggests that in our interactions we play the role of Parent, Adult or Child. Parent is our 'Taught' concept of life, adult - our 'Thought' concept of life and child - our 'Felt' concept of life.

I saw my old friend, Harry, the other day. I hadn't seen him in years, and there he was, not ten feet from me at the gas station. I caught his eye, smiled and nodded to him as if to ask "How're you doing?" while I filled my tank. He smiled and nodded back, then finished his transaction and drove away. That was somewhat of a bittersweet moment for me, as Harry's not just an old friend, but a very dear friend... he just doesn't know it. We were both involved with an outreach of Campus Crusade over 20 years ago. We worked with the music team, me as a guitar player, and Harry as a singer and sometimes saxophone player. Harry was an easy person to like... we became pretty fast friends and enjoyed our time together as often as we could.
Harry lived about an hour's drive away in Henderson, where he was quite respected as a high school teacher. This was back in the day before cell phones... we had to call from a landline to schedule time together. My work occasionally put me in the proximity of Henderson and I'd call Harry from a payphone... he'd be ready at a moment's notice to get together for dinner and some catching up. One day, however, Harry didn't answer the phone, and he didn't for months thereafter... and then, once again, he answered and, after some odd discussion, invited me over. He explained to me that he had a seizure while visiting family in Winston-Salem and awoke in a hospital room... he was diagnosed with a serious brain tumor and surgery followed shortly afterward. That surgery saved his life... but the removal of that tumor and surrounding brain matter, or margins as it is known, left him with no recollection of me or our friendship.
I remember that evening quite well. I was sitting there with my friend intact in every way, save one... I could see the life of our friendship in his eyes, and I could tell it was gone. This was one of the most awkward moments of my life. He told me that he hoped that I'd understand that he didn't want to pursue our friendship any further, as he had other things he needed to work through. As I said, he was a teacher at a local high school and his memory loss was an issue there, too. I understood, though it made the drive home quite a lot longer that night than it had ever been before. In effect, he had literally died before my eyes and I was in tears as I prayed for Harry... and my loss.
Do you remember making friends as a child? "Do you want to be friends? Cool... let's go ride bikes!"... or catch tadpoles, or draw, or play on the swings, or toss a football... simple as that. Adult friendships, however, can be messy things... it's hard to find that one right one you can open your heart to. Harder, still, to let it go once you've got it. I had to do that a lot as a child, being a member of a military family that moved so often. Seeing Harry again brought those memories back... and the memories of so many friends whose names I'd forgotten over the years.
I put no stock at all in time+matter+chance... I believe things happen for a reason. The 9th chapter of the Book of John opens with the disciples doing what many of us do, trying to figure out the Almighty. As Jesus went along, He saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Have you ever thought that the rough places on the road of life are actually blessings waiting for illumination? That's exactly what the "light of the world" does.
I cannot even imagine where I would be today were it not for all those friends, past and present, who have given me a heart full of joy even in the midst of the fearful journey life can be sometimes. One and all, they helped to make me the man I am today. Even in the sadness of it all, Harry still makes me smile. Love comes into that quotient, as well, as is the case with Harry… you don't grieve for things you don't love. Understanding that comes as a part of growing up, yet it doesn't make such situations any easier as you go through life. That "growing up" measure settles in, however, and you begin to understand that regardless of the pain and accountability friendships can bring, there are no regrets. And let's face it, no matter the season through life, friends make that life a lot more tolerable... and often fun.
Take this fella here, for instance... he was minding his own business as a number of other species squabbled around him along the docks of Wanchese, North Carolina, while I was visiting with photographer friend Gregg Southard, who lives nearby. He had apparently had enough and took to the sky. He made a full circuit of the harbor, returned to the very spot he left from and paddled up to me with an expression as if to say "What'd I miss?" My answer was a smile.
I'm headed back there for the weekend... the weather looks iffy, but I'll bet there's a shot to be had! I hope for a good weekend for you too... go out and make a new friend, even if it's a pelican.
A Season in Your Path, by Wayne Watson
(You can hear this song here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCbleRC0SsI )
Heard that friends are friends forever
But we don't talk much anymore
I guess that I've gone my way
And I guess that you've gone yours
Was kindness too neglected
On my list of deep regret?
In spite of distance unexpected
Can we forgive but not forget?
Sometimes I think about you
Some old memories make me cry
Remembering the good times makes me laugh
But all in all, I'm richer
For the happy and the sad
And I'm thankful for a season in your path
I guess God alone deciphers
When people need each other most
Who will be the blessed receiver
And who will be the gracious host
And all a servant here can do
Is unto the Lord avail
Content at times to be the wind
And at times to be the sail
If another winter settles
On your shoulder down the road
Without a thought of what's behind us
Let me help you pull your load
Sometimes I think about you
Some old memories make me cry
Remembering the good times makes me laugh
But all in all, I'm richer
For the happy and the sad
And I'm thankful for a season in your path

This is a 1958 "Field & Stream" Travel Trailer ( canned ham ). This vintage style of camping trailers were referred to as "car trailers" back when they were being built because of their size, light weight and ease of towing. The cabin part of the trailer is 12' long, the tongue is 2' making the total length only 14'. It pulls beautifully going down the highway, no fish tailing at all. You can forget your pulling a trailer.
This trailer is 95% original, no modifications. This trailer has not been restored and I have only made a couple of small repairs. If you are looking for a great platform for making a complete restoration then this would be an absolutely great trailer for such a project.
The interior is all wood, top to bottom and front to back and it is all original wood. I have installed a self-contained 12 volt electrical system and it doesn't need 120 volt. Everything runs off of 12 volts. However all of the original 120 volt wiring is still in place and hasn't been touched, even the original 120v light fixtures are still in place. All of the cabinet hardware is still in place, working and original. All the hinges, handles, and everything is original. The original "icebox" and oven/stove are still in the camper and work great. It also has the original factory installed "Kenmore" cabin heater and it also works great.
When I got the trailer someone had changed the paint scheme so I re-painted it to the original design. The rear couch makes into a double bed. Above the rear couch it has a removable bunk bed/hammock that is original factory equipment also. The dinette also makes into a double bed. There is a lot of storage in the camper. It also has a 10 gallon fresh water tank with a manual hand pump.
The trailer also comes with 2 30 lb propane tanks, a new spare tire and wheel.
The following items are new in the past three months:
New Interior 12 volt light throughout the camper
New 240 watt solar panel
New "Sunforce" 12v, 30 amp charge controller
4 new "Everstart" 750 cold crank amp deep cell marine batteries
New "Cen-Tech" 1500 watt continuous , 3000 surge 120v power inverter (for microwave, etc.)
New Rival 700 watt microwave
New manual water pump for sink
New Shakespeare SeaWatch 15" Marine TV Antenna (model 3015)
Toshiba 17' Flat Screen TV
All new blinds on the windows
New roof top vent
This is one great little camper. I bought it for hunting plus the nostalgia. It was used this past hunting season and worked great. However with four adult men it was a little cramped. So I plan to up size for next year. I pulled it off road in BLM land in Teller County and down in the Phantom Canyon area and had no problems at all.
Because this trailer is extremely rare there are not many sources of photos to be had but you can follow the link below to another "Field & Stream" trailer. As you can see the interiors are very similar as it is all original like mine: girlcamper.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
(Update) You can see a video of the interior of my camper here: youtu.be/NA1VfPU8Sd8
Now the best part last: YES, I DO HAVE A CLEAN CLEAR TITLE IN HAND, AND CURRENT REGISTRATION ALSO. So unlike most trailers you see of this vintage you will not have a problem with registration and it will be registered as a "Field and Stream" not a home-made trailer as is usually the case with trailers bought without a title.
If you have questions please ask. I am asking $5000.00 cash, make offer, no trades. I will sell it to the first person who makes me an agreeable offer with CASH ONLY. I will consider local delivery after the cash transaction.

The proposed financial transaction tax should be better designed to capture more traders and make evasion unprofitable, said the European Parliament in its opinion adopted on Wednesday. The opinion also says the tax should go ahead even if only some Member States opt for it.
The tax rates proposed by the Commission (0.1% for shares and bonds and 0.01% for derivatives) are considered suitable and pension funds should be the only sector exempted from the tax.
Parliament has been calling for a financial transaction tax (FTT), for close to two years and the Commission tabled a legislative proposal for one late in 2011. The latest Eurobarometer survey shows that 66% of Europeans favour such a tax.
Rapporteur Anni Podimata (S&D, EL, in the photo) during the debate said, "The FTT is an integral part of an exit from crisis. It will bring a fairer distribution of the weight of the crisis.
This FTT will not lead to relocation outside the EU because the cost of this is higher than paying the tax.".
