And the eclipse award for best use of household recycling goes too ….
In all seriousness it was cool to see this fella (dad?) and kids having fun with this - together.
Well done !!!!!!
The sun’s corona and solar prominences are visible during the final moments of the total solar eclipse that passed across North America, April 8, 2024.
The 2024 solar eclipse was an amazing moment that I was able to experience in person. Not only was it cool to see the moon totally cover the sun, it was surreal when the day time turned into dark for a whole three minutes.
I didn't travel to find totality for the 2024 solar eclipse, and neglected to pick up a pair of safe-viewing glasses, so wasn't expecting much of a gift from the skies. But just as our maximum was happening, a puffy cloud started to drift across, allowing a safe view of the solar crescent with the naked eye. And also this satisfying shot.
iPhone Camera (left) for wide angle time-lapse video, Nikon Coolpix B700 with solar eclipse sun glasses in front of lens for closeup (middle) and Nikon D5300 camera (right) for backup.
Also I have a second solar eclipse sun glasses on my forehead for viewing he sun.

A diamond ring flanked by some rubies!
The prominence eruptions at the south and east position is still going strong!
[As you go through the next few photos, do keep an eye out on the prominences at both the 6- and 3-o'clock positions (south and east, respectively).
Within the 4-min of totality, you can observe their eruptions. The one at 6 o'clock is so bright that it can be seen with the naked eyes! The prominence eruption at 3 o'clock is of a lesser intensity.]
Beyond its astronomical wonder and humanity biggest achievement of predicting solar eclipses. Do you know how complicated mathematically to figure all that out to the seconds? You literally have to know the diameters, distance, angles of the shadows, and the orbital mechanics of Earth, moon, and sun system all into one complicated equation.
The total solar eclipse holds a spiritual significance to understand your own connection with the universe. Connect with ancient wisdom like our ancestors did.

A man paddles under the second half of the total solar eclipse. The light in the sky is dim and the moon is about half covering the sun.
Looking west from the Burlington, VT waterfront, the Adirondack mountains of Upstate New York are in the distance. Snow from over the weekend still remains on a few of their peaks.

Taking pictures in my back yard of the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, using solar eclipse sun glasses as a filter on my Nikon Coolpix B700 camera.
I think this is my favorite photo from totality. I wasn't sure I would get it, but here it is. I know it's not perfect, but it's what I got.
I watched the solar eclipse of 2024 in Arkansas, near Hot Springs on Lake Hamilton. I prepared this composite to show the entire show. OK, I skipped the whole sun images...
i wasn't quite close enough to be in the path for the total solar eclipse in north america today, so i lowered my expectations - as well as my lens - and spent most of the time exploring one of the phenomena that struck me so much in 2017 - the dancing projections everywhere of the eclipsed sun through the leaves of the trees around me
this was probably my favorite shot of a comp that i was drawn to & intrigued by several times throughout the afternoon
it's a simple shot of the projection of the sun and moon through a japanese maple tree onto a canvas patio table cover, yet it's more than that - surrealist and abstract, the shapes and movement lead the mind to the possibility of open, subjective interpretation...
backyard capture in chesterfield
GoPro 10 wide field video capturing the moon's umbra shadow looking northeast. The dynamic range was high for the auto exposure of this action camera. However, taking jpegs over video helps improve contrast. Higher clouds casts shadows on the lower clouds as waves. During thr moon's passage, its shadow was much clearer and definite as compared to the direct video. This video was sped up 2x except during totality. Individual frames at 5 sec increments were used.
