The sign from the long-closed Spaghetti Works restaurant is somewhat appropriate - three railroads come together at Wichita's South Junction - K&O, Union Pacific, and BNSF, all on single track, and the dispatcher has to make sure everything's lined up correctly.
Lily created "dancing embroidery" - her little creatures, with their spheres of wood, are held together with tensioned threads. When you move the platform on which they rest, they start to jiggle around. They rise and fall or go off at an angle. I'm still not sure how it works, but it's all very happy. Lily comes from Iceland, but came to New Designers with The Swedish School of Textiles, where she has completed a Masters degree. "I just want to contribute a little joy," she told me. "That may sound a little naieve, but it's how I feel."

New holographic thread color from Kreinik: in Blending Filament. The holographics have flecks of color that make them look wet and 3-dimensional.

Aurifil Thread mosaic for the Aurifil Make-A Designer-Collection competition on Lily's Quilts. This thread palette is all about the feminine. I have a couple of cousins with girls who would love anything made with these colors! I'd choose 50 wt thread because it's so versatile.
A single thread may be weak, but, when it is wound 108 times around the trunk, it becomes strong. It is no longer so fragile and no longer easy to break.
This is my first Drawn Thread piece, and will certainly not be my last. I LOVED every minute of this, and was sad when I finished. I'm now a TDT addict, and have *cough* 10 more of their projects kitted up. :) This was stitched with the recommended NPI silks (1 over 2) on Antique Ivory Belfast linen.
