This is a 3 oz bundle of Japanese silk threads for weaving or embroidery. The thread photographs rather blue, but has a slight purple tint to in in reality.
Every rod is threaded on the male end. It allows the rods to be assembled together to clean the barrel. Two will do.
309/365 (Nov 5, 2011) - A metaphor for life. Threads weave us together, they bind things, but they can break. The needle that works the thread can help tie things together, or it can prick, cause a wound, and tangle everything up.
By the way, I really suck at hand sewing.

The white spool is a linen thread in different weights. 25/3 is most common weight for book binding. The color thread is thicker which is used for exposed (naked) spine type of bookbinding.
My mother-in-law has been saving fabric scraps and threads from all her sewing projects since the 70s. She has given them to me to learn how to sew with! What I love about these is that it has been long enough that most of the fabrics are considered "kitschy" now. This is gonna be AWESOME.
There are so many species of "thread-waisted", it is difficult to specifically identify this one. Possibly a digger wasp.
Gorgeous thread I won on ebay!!! I am definitely using the one on the bottom right to quilt my Mom's quilt. Which I need to take a picture of.
