Saying farewell to a friend, my humble little threader. I've used this same small piece of metal to start every stitch for over 5 years. Untold tens of thousands of times, I'm surprised my fingerprints aren't worn into the metal... Lately it's just shredding my floss to bits, so it's time for a new one.

An original art quilt. Hand-drawn on fabric; machine quilted. I made this for a challenge on the theme "Maverick." And this piece is about how in the traditional art world, art quilters and fiber artists are mavericks, breaking and bending all sorts of rules. So among these basic art tools, the needle and thread are subversive in their own ordinary way.
