It was a grotty day on the 21st. I wanted to take photos of winteryness but I was terrified that either me or the camera wouldn't survive the ice. So apologies this is a day late and not what i wanted. But i love the warmness of the christmas light bokeh particularly with all the colours in this photo.
"For some, the Shortest Days are the Longest Days
All over the country, there are wives and girlfriends, husbands and boyfriends, parents, brothers, sisters and, perhaps most poignantly, children who will be missing those they love most this Christmas.
Our friends Alex and Kathryn (AliDaDas and Tummymonster) are both without their OHs as they're away serving and we think there should be a way to say "Thank you" - whatever you think of the rights and wrongs of our middle east strategy they are missing loved ones because our government thinks the UK need a presence out there.
We think we owe them a debt of gratitude, this is our tiny way to try to repay it"
Also thinking of my friends in the forces who are or have been in Afghanistan this year. Keep coming home safe.

Walking home from school in winter was kind of terrifying. As a little kid you were under constant threat of a "face wash" from the older kids. I felt like I got pretty good at being invisible. Just eyes on the road, walking with as natural and minimal movement as possible. Looking calm and purposeful. If you panicked and ran you were done for.
The bobbit worm, aka sand striker, is a study in how terrifying nature can be. These creatures can be found primarily in the Atlantic Ocean, but can also be found in the Indo-Pacific. These predators, aka nightmare fuel, lay in wait for passing prey to happen by. Then they attack, with ferocious speed and power. These terrifying creatures are not currently evaluated by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).
First the Stats...
Scientific name: Eunice aphroditois
Weight: Up to 16 ounces
Length: Up to 10 feet
Lifespan: Up to 5 years
Now on to the Facts!
1.) These worms can have up to 673 segments!
2.) They use a protein-based mucous coating to line the walls of their burrow. This keeps it from caving in.
3.) Even though these worms have 2 rudimentary eyes, they instead rely upon 5 antennae to detect movement of prey.
4.) Bobbit worms have been around for around 20 million years, basically unchanged.
5.) They can be found in warmer waters at depths of up to 141 feet.
But wait, there's more on the bobbit worm!
6.) The bobbit worm attacks with such force that often times their prey is literally cut in half.
7.) They have a primary pair of mandibles and 4 - 6 pairs of maxillae (jaws or jawbones).
Did you know...?
Their name hails from a myth that the female worm cuts off the male's penis after mating and feeds it to her young. This is false as worms have neither penises nor vaginas, for that matter.
8.)
This sunset was eerie red.

Crossing the road in Italy can be a terrifying experience. This crossing is not light controlled, you simply step out. The traffic should slow down for you before you step out, usually not. Once you have asserted yourself onto the road traffic won't wait until you've cleared the crossing it will continue to pass in front and behind you.
A sigh of relief is given after another successful crossing.
Forest and Bog fire which started roughly 8 hours before I took this, 1KM away.
Someone decided to chance the law and go burning in April, despite the illegalities, and with the incredibly good weather we've been having here lately everything was completely dry. So understandably the whole top layer of peat caught fire over a huge amount of bog.
Sad part was watching it enter the forest across from my house. You could hear the trees (bout 15 years old) going up and the flames were insanely high (Pine trees).
Went down to help quench them for 2 and a half hours, we saved a good bit of land over our direction (though it was a small section compared to the vast amount it engorged)

In 1940 a German aircraft tried to destroy the gasometer in the adjoining gas works (the site is now occupied by an apartment complex). They failed in that quest but evidence of the 'strafing' can still be seen on some of the memorials located to the south-east of the site.
Trinity cemetery was opened in 1887. It is on a large site located to the north of the city centre, near the beach adjacent to Aberdeen football stadium.
It comprises two sections. The westerly section is the larger of the two with the later 20th century easterly extension (originally a gravel pit) located on the other side of Park Road. Both sections slope upward from this road. The official main entrance is at the west end, where the cemetery lodge can be seen, with access via Errol Street.
The westerly section contains approximately 5600 stones naming a little over 14000 individuals.
The eastery extension is smaller, containing approximately 3300 stones with a little over 7300 named individuals.
The earliest date found recorded in the extension was 1891 though the vast majority of the stones date from the 1940's to the present time.
Trinity is a large 'open' cemetery consisting mainly of grass and gravel walkways. There are few bushes and even fewer trees. It is well maintained but the lack of the aforementioned trees or larger shrubs gives it a somewhat stark appearance.
The advantage of this layout however is that you can see the whole cemetery from practically anywhere within the grounds. A wonderful view can be had from the top of the cemetery, with the whole grounds before you. Beyond this lies a view of the beach and the North Sea.

To see how this blasted chunks out of these granite memorials gives you some idea of the power behind these armaments. It must have been terrifying to be caught in such a raid.
There are just a few memorials showing artistic distinction, nearly all of which are in the original cemetery grounds. The easterly extension site is dominated by a large memorial to those who gifted their bodies to medical science. This is located at the top of the easterly section, extreme left.

A young girl cringes when she learns how 3D Disney's 3D movie is. This "photo" was taken with a video camera camera (only 1 megapixel) so please look past the grainy grasshopper-green tint! I like the raw fear in this shot and the cockeyed glasses knocked crooked by whatever popped out of the screen. The girl had tucked hair under her nose to comfort herself but that plan didn't hold up with everything leaping into the audience. In the pitch black, it's difficult to make out all of this but illumination with infrared help pull this action out of the darkness.

For Navaratri’s seventh night, we celebrate Goddess Kalaratri, otherwise known as Kali. She takes a terrifying form, with eyes of fire and skin as dark as night, to purify the world by killing demons and destroying evil in the form of ignorance and egoism in the hearts of man.
She is the personification of the Ultimate, all comes from Her and all returns to Her. Her name means the One who is always giving and She will do everything to save Her children, absorbing all from Her devotees: the good, the bad, and the negative. She always delivers favourable results and Her devotees need not fear Her.
