Detail of a panel from the Apocalypse sequence that fills the larger part of the great east window of York Minster, photographed ex-situ following restoration.
The east window at York is one of wonders of gothic art and the largest medieval window in existance. It's original glazing, comprising 119 narrative scenes from the Old Testament and the Apocalypse, is as good as complete. It was created by the workshop of John Thornton of Coventry in 1405-8 (at a cost of around £56!).
Though the Minster's original glazing is unusually well preserved (by English standards) there has been considerably loss of clarity through the centuries of repair and patching which have resulted in heavier leadwork, intruded pieces of infill and extra leads (often across faces) where breakages have occured, often reducing the image to a confusing mosaic patchwork, difficult to decipher from ground level.
The latest restoration by the York Glazier's Trust aims to restore some of this lost legibility using modern conservation techniques and research by sensitive releading of each panel, and removing disfiguring insertions to give back some of the clarity and brilliance it's original form possessed in order to be read from a distance (a similar process has just been completed on the nearby St William window (also by Thornton) where comparison between pre and post restoration photos show what an enormous success the project has been).
Storing the World's largest medieval window has prooved a challenge, at first all 119 panels (with almost as many tracery pieces) where stored in crates in the Minster's stoneyard, until late 2009 when fire broke out in the rooms above, necessitating the evacuation of the massive window and rescuing it from what could have been the biggest loss to our national heritage since the Civil War! Happily all was saved from danger and is now stored within the Minster for the remainder of the project.
A few panels have been temporarily displayed at ground level in the cathedral allowing close-up detailed views of images normally only visible with the aid of binoculars

tell me a secret.
any secret that you have.
i'll tell you one of mine.
im terrified of strangers. yes, its true. not because my parents always told me not to get into their cars for candy as a child, but because i don't trust people. ive been hurt far too many times to ever fully and completely trust one person. i used to trust one person, and i thought that this person was the greatest human to ever talk to me because this person understood me. this person knew my every waking thought and could finish my sentences. this person entrusted their life into my hands - and i returned the favor. i told this person so much about me, and i knew so much about them. we were pals. companions. buddies. we talked everyday. all day, everyday. we spent countless hours together. we laughed and cried together. this person and i were best friends.
until that person hurt me more deeply than i could have ever imagined possible. that person had such a tight grip on my heart, that the only thing necessary was to tug. that person pulled my heart right out of me. bruised it. broke it. my heart was in a thousand pieces and i still haven't collected them all to glue back together - and i honestly don't think that i ever will.
there will forever be a gaping hold in my heart from when that person decided to tear me apart. ive never completely forgiven that person, and i don't know if i could if i tried with all of my being.
and now i live with the emotional scars every day, from when that person ruthlessly attacked me. that person attacked me with words. truthful words - for the first time. previously, all that i knew had been a lie. an ugly and vicious lie. the relationship. the laughter. the tears. and the trust. all of it was fake and phoney.
and so. ive never trusted again.
and im scared to open myself to new people.
so i guess this means, im not just scared of strangers..
i'm scared of people. and the words they say.
+1 in comments : its irrelevant.
btw sorry that ive had some depressing days lately.. just going through a phase.
Hares desperately ran for their lives today on the first day of the shameful "national hare coursing finals" in Clonmel.
The sickening images here show one of dozens of hares used as live bait for greyhounds. With bulging eyes, this terrified hare looks back to see the greyhound rapidly closing in.
The 3-day event in Clonmel is the culmination of a season of animal cruelty during which hares, cruelly snatched from the wild, are kept captive for months and forced to run for their lives in front of pairs of greyhounds. Every season, hare injuries (including broken legs, damaged toes, dislocated hips) and hare deaths are documented.
This appalling cruelty has continued thanks to Arts and Heritage Minister, Heather Humphreys who, last August, issued coursers with a licence to grab thousands of hares from the countryside for use as live bait for dogs. It continues thanks to Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney who enacted an Animal "Welfare" Bill which explicitly exempts hare coursers from prosecution for their cruelty. It continues also thanks to our Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who despite having previously expressed opposition to coursing, chooses to turn a blind eye to the suffering of the Irish Hare and refuses to stop it.
The vast majority of Irish people want hare coursing outlawed. Petitions calling for a ban have been signed by thousands in Ireland and around the world. A ban on the bloodsport is long overdue and it is time now for our legislators to follow the example of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and finally make it illegal.
Please share the photos, respond to the action alerts and demand that the government makes this the last ever hare coursing season.

SAMPLE LETTER
(If you have time, please compose your own personal letter. Otherwise, feel free to send the short sample letter below. Be assertive, but polite, in all correspondence. Thank you.)
Dear Minister,
I am one of the majority who want hare coursing outlawed. I am writing to urge you to stop licensing this cruel bloodsport. In coursing, hares suffer at all stages - during the capture, during the time they are kept in captivity and during the coursing meetings where they run for their lives in front of greyhounds. Among the injuries recorded are broken legs, damaged toes and dislocated hips. Every season, hare injuries and deaths are documented.
I ask you to please act on the wishes of the majority, show compassion and permanently end the licensing of coursing.
Yours sincerely,
[Name/Location]
Please appeal to the Minister for Agriculture to remove an exemption for hare coursing from the Animal Health and Welfare Act.

Contact all your local TDs now. Demand that they urgently push for a ban on hare coursing and all bloodsports. Tell them you are one of the majority who want coursing banned. Remind them that coursing is already illegal in Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. Urge them to respect the wishes of the majority of the electorate and back a ban.

It was terrifying yet bitter. Just as the taxi stopped at a junction, swarms of homeless young Filipinos kids rushed onto the streets knocking on car windows asking for money.

Synopsis
Mega roller coasters of today reach heights of over 400 feet and speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Roller coasters towering taller than a certain height are terrifying for many individuals but it would be boring to simply make a list of the world’s tallest coasters. As a result, most of the bone-chilling machines in this list do not use sheer height to terrify, but instead prey on our fears and emotions in other, more creative ways. One element alone may not make a ride terrifying but the sum of all of its parts does. What factors make a roller coaster terrifying? Height, speed, inversions, backwards segments, unique track elements, darkness, and unexpected surprises all contribute to making your head spin and your knees tremble. Where are the most terrifying roller coasters found? Who designs them? Which park builds the craziest rides? Find ou

“Masked Siren Strikes Again: Terrifying Home Invasion in Quiet Neighborhood”
Authorities are searching for a masked female suspect after a chilling home invasion late last night left an elderly woman shaken and traumatized.
The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. at a residence on Willow Lane, where the 78-year-old victim, identified only as Mrs. H., was alone in her home.
According to police reports, the suspect—dubbed “The Masked Siren” by investigators—broke into the house by forcing open a terrace door. Once inside, she reportedly restrained the elderly woman using duct tape and held a knife to her throat while demanding valuables.
“She was wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans, and a black half-mask,” said Detective Laura Simmons. “Her face was partially covered, but she displayed extreme confidence and control. She knew exactly what she wanted.”
The suspect reportedly ransacked the home, stealing jewelry, cash, and family heirlooms before leaving the house on foot. CCTV footage from nearby homes shows a woman lighting a cigarette at the edge of the property, smirking as she walked away.
“This was a calculated, cold robbery,” Simmons added. “We believe she has struck at least twice before, targeting elderly women living alone.”
Neighbors have described the attacker as slim, athletic, with dark hair pulled back into a tight ponytail. Police urge anyone with information to contact the local tip line.
Mrs. H. was treated on the scene for shock but is expected to make a full recovery.
February 15th, 2015 - Striped Dolphin Slaughter — at Taiji Japan
Once again, an amazingly beautiful sunrise over the Taiji coastline was overshadowed by the torturous slaughter of 30-35 wild cetaceans.
In less than 45 minutes after sunrise, a sizeable and peaceful family pod of Striped Dolphins had been located amid the tranquil ocean waters - their home. But the tactical supremacy of the high-tech drive boats controlled by the dolphin hunters of Taiji, soon had them rattled with distress and confusion as they were driven towards their unknown future. As the boats attempted to manipulate their direction towards the Taiji Harbour, the pod split, resulting in half of the pod making a hasty retreat back to deeper waters, and their freedom. But regrettably, 30-35 individuals still remained and by 9:15am (after continual harassment by the hunting vessels, skiff boats, banging poles and slap paddles), the remaining pod had been secured within the harrowing waters of "The Killing Cove", where they await their imminent, agonising and inhumane death. As the dolphins were roped by the tail and dragged to the shoreline, the massacre begun, and remaining family members bare witness to their own horrifying and inevitable fate.
A graceless and unjustifiable practice once again casts a blood red cloak over the pristine waters of a beautiful coastline.
