Be scared of the One handed shadow man ... very scared
This image has a story - so forgive me.
This was a total departure from my normal style of shooting. My normal style is to set up lights, set exposure, take a shot, chimp (check the image on the camera LCD), change power setting on lights, chimp again, take several test shots, chimp, etc. For this shot, I had planned ahead, knew exactly what I wanted to do and did it with the minimum of effort and fuss.
I got the idea from a shot by Joe McNally which I saw in his book, The Hot Shoe Diaries. I was going to be in a deserted car park yesterday night, so I rigged up my camera and flashes at home, drove over, took the shot and was done. The whole thing took me only 10 mts and I just took about 10 shots. Quick, easy and fast. But speed has its drawbacks - would have liked to have got a better shape on the shadow which I could have done with experimenting. Which I couldn't do cos as soon as I setup, all the lights in the car park were suddenly switched off and I was afraid that an actual shadow man might come after me :D
Lighting and setup: (Like Duh - should have taken a setup shot but I am such an idiot) 430EXII gelled red camera left 105mm zoom at 1/2 power for the shadow; Sigma Super 3/4 CTO gelled camera right with shoot through at 1/8 power; triggered by Cactus V4; 2 exposures merged.

Synopsis
Mega roller coasters of today reach heights of over 400 feet and speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Roller coasters towering taller than a certain height are terrifying for many individuals but it would be boring to simply make a list of the world’s tallest coasters. As a result, most of the bone-chilling machines in this list do not use sheer height to terrify, but instead prey on our fears and emotions in other, more creative ways. One element alone may not make a ride terrifying but the sum of all of its parts does. What factors make a roller coaster terrifying? Height, speed, inversions, backwards segments, unique track elements, darkness, and unexpected surprises all contribute to making your head spin and your knees tremble. Where are the most terrifying roller coasters found? Who designs them? Which park builds the craziest rides? Find ou
Founded c. 1207 through a combination of the failing Premonstratensian monasteries of Otham and Brockley, Bayham functioned as an abbey until its dissolution in the 16th century. The abbey was amongst the first to be dissolved.
The timespan that the Abbey was in existance really struck me when I visited. You get used to seeing similar ruins across Britain and, given how long ago it is, you just accept the knowledge that they were "disolved", rather than just falling into disrepair and ruin. But imagine such a change in today's society.... those long-established institutions, this one operating for around 400 years, were brought to an abrupt end. Must have been terrifying, not only for the monks, but also for ordinary people, whose daily lives were no doubt heavily influenced by the existance of these huge "organisations".

The Korean War Veterans Memorial is an amazing memorial. The expression of each soldier show fear, anxiety, pain, uncertainty.
For me, this memorial is like a photograph of the war.
February 15th, 2015 - Striped Dolphin Slaughter — at Taiji Japan
Once again, an amazingly beautiful sunrise over the Taiji coastline was overshadowed by the torturous slaughter of 30-35 wild cetaceans.
In less than 45 minutes after sunrise, a sizeable and peaceful family pod of Striped Dolphins had been located amid the tranquil ocean waters - their home. But the tactical supremacy of the high-tech drive boats controlled by the dolphin hunters of Taiji, soon had them rattled with distress and confusion as they were driven towards their unknown future. As the boats attempted to manipulate their direction towards the Taiji Harbour, the pod split, resulting in half of the pod making a hasty retreat back to deeper waters, and their freedom. But regrettably, 30-35 individuals still remained and by 9:15am (after continual harassment by the hunting vessels, skiff boats, banging poles and slap paddles), the remaining pod had been secured within the harrowing waters of "The Killing Cove", where they await their imminent, agonising and inhumane death. As the dolphins were roped by the tail and dragged to the shoreline, the massacre begun, and remaining family members bare witness to their own horrifying and inevitable fate.
A graceless and unjustifiable practice once again casts a blood red cloak over the pristine waters of a beautiful coastline.

I have always been terrified of heights. When I was 11 I went to an amusement park and refused to get on a ferris wheel. So a couple years ago I made a list of things I wanted to do and riding a ferris wheel was on it.
Last week I saw that the rodeo and carnival was in town and I was ecstatic. I was determined to ride the ferris wheel. As we got there we decided to play a couple games to calm my nerves. Then when I stepped on I felt like a cat trying to balance on a log in the middle of a lake.
I also got to ride the merry go round all by my self! I felt like a celebrity.
The carnival was so empty we pretty much were the only ones there. It was weird screaming and having everyone know that it was me.

a late night session with another flickr regular, spent at the disused and mostly wrecked WWII Bushfield Army barracks, near Winchester.
more so than any other shot i got while i was there, i was glad tim was with me. being in these rooms would be terrifying on it's own, but light painting in the pitch black, while also being pathologically claustrophobic (and scared of the dark to boot!) did not help.
Poetography... a weekly inspiration. This week's word is "WORDS" or any of it's synonyms...
I didn't have anything that could represent the government but I figured the sting of the bee would be about like the government knocking on your door...(grin)
