On March 11, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that airline passengers have rated LaGuardia Airport as best in its class, a stunning reversal of fortunes for an airport that five years was deemed the worst in the nation. The passengers were surveyed throughout 2023 for the highly regarded Airport Service Quality (ASQ) by the Airports Council International (ACI).
The airport earned an overall passenger satisfaction score of 4.24 out of 5, which was 20 percent higher than in its score in 2018, when passengers rated LaGuardia as the worst airport in North America. As a result, LaGuardia was named ASQ’s “Best Airport of 25 to 40 Million Passengers in North America” in 2023. The ASQ award is based on direct assessments from those who count most: passenger opinions.
The announcement builds on the airport’s success following the celebrated openings of the new Terminal B in 2020 and the new Terminal C in 2022. More than 32 million passengers used LaGuardia in 2023, which was the airport’s busiest year ever.
At 1.3 million square feet, the new Terminal C is 85 percent larger than the two terminals it replaced - consolidating access to 37 gates through a single arrivals and departures hall. The terminal showcases six commissioned works from artists Mariam Ghani, Rashid Johnson, Aliza Nisenbaum, Virginia Overton, Ronny Quevedo, and Fred Wilson. The artwork include sculptures and painted ceramic murals that span the building's multi-floor light-filled entry space, as well displayed in baggage claim and other areas throughout the terminal. The art tells a compelling story about the city's immigrant history, its people, and the importance of celebrating diversity throughout the city.
