Lioni Prime Meats in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn definitely caught our eye with its #signage overload including the gorgeous #neonsign complete with #script letterings and twinkling ✨ stars. Photo from 2012 appears in our book “Store Front II-A History Preserved”.

Pitkin Avenue Bootery in Brownsville, Brooklyn was in business for over 40 years before it closed in 2011. We loved their #vintage #signage complete with the #handpainted shoes and #script lettering. We also love their "lobby" style entrance with the deep window 👞👢displays and the kiddie horse ride out front. Photo from 2009 appears in our book "Store Front II - A History Preserved."

A storefront in Bad Homburg's Louisenstrasse that caught my eye!

Cash & Carry Food Market founded 1959 by the Cruz family in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. We interviewed the owner Santiago Cruz for our book “Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York” #disappearingfaceofnewyork #delicatessen #deli #bodega #bodegas #sunsetpark #sunsetparkbrooklyn

Joe's Dairy in the South Village was founded in 1977 but was operating as a dairy store called Frank and Al's Dairy for over 40 years prior. It specialized in homemade Mozzarella both regular and smoked flavors, which were made on premises. In this photo taken in 2008 for our book "Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York", the owner's father is relaxing outside the storefront after having hydrated and marinated sun-dried tomatoes 🍅 which they also sold at the shop. Sadly this Italian cheese shop closed in 2013, which came as a surprise to many but the owner Anthony had told us in 2008 that "When I am ready to retire, it (Mozzarella making) will probably be a lost art in my family because I have a daughter but I won't allow her to do this. It's a lot of hard work. It's not that a woman couldn't do it, but you have to get up really early and work long hard hours." Full interview and photo appears in our "Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York".

This building on Packer Street in Weatherly, Carbon County Pennsylvania looked to be a storefront at one time. They haven't lost their patriotic spirit.

These storefronts are on Jasper Avenue (the equivalent of "Main Street" ) in downtown Edmonton, just a block or three east of the main core. The neighborhood environment in this city is so extremely clear-cut and well defined, you could mark the borders with a piece of chalk (after you've used it to mark the dead body outlines!)

I traveled to o different town today to explore the storefronts and was surprised to find a photography studio - only open by appointment. The cameras on the floor in the display window caught my eye, but I realized there were different vintage cameras tucked in different places in the window. There wasn't a way to reasonably capture them all, so I got a few. I've also been reading about Henri Cartier-Bresson and attempted to photograph using his settings - black and white, ISO 400, 1/125, aperture changed as needed and no crops. I might try this again and try to get some people into the shot next time. All unexplored.

Saw this while driving through Florence, KS. Could not pass up this picture!

Next door to the wedding dress place in Norfolk is this tiled storefront home for remote controlled tank battles (using 1/16th scale tanks). I wish I had used the polarizing filter on this photo.
