In 2003 bushfires in the outskirts of Canberra destroyed much of the infrastructure at the Mt Stromlo Observatory.

Some of the fire-damaged structures which once housed telescopes still remain; this startrail was taken from within one such building.

A startrail at the Dunes of Terschelling with a almost full moon.

Side of a late 70's pontiac firebird trans-am. A hidden gem of a salvage yard that I put off way to long before I visited. Location not disclosed at owners request.

180 second exposure, protomachines flashlight set to red, green & purple.

Things which can go absolutely wrong when trying to shoot startrails at the beach:

1st the upcoming moon directly from the sea killed my exposure settings. While starting the moonrise it looked cool red, but more and more it's light became more power and i had to adjust my exposure settings manually.

2nd, and that's more funny, the upcoming high tide came more and more near to my feet. I didn't fear to become wet feet, but surely my tripod standing in the sand wouldn't resist the waves.

Last not least this shooting was a good education ;)

Made about 200 exposures and merged them using Startrails version 2.2.

this startrail shot was taken thanks to magic lantern (www.magiclantern.fm) and it's intervalometer. It's a multicomposition of 371 single shots at 30seconds with iso 160 and aperture to 2.8 on the samyang 14mm f2.8.

Composed by 168 frames pointing NW [20mm, 30s, f/2.8, ISO 400] and stacked with startrails.de.

Being at 1º40’ N of latitude, the celestial north is quite low in the horizon and Polaris isn't visible 😊

Bouley Bay could be a great spot for some night time photos as there's very little in the way of light pollution from local lights, you do have to put up with the lights over on the French coastline but they aren't too bad. I'd have love to have gone down again another night but this was the only clear night on the holiday, clear enough even to see the Milky Way, which I've managed to get a little bit of in a shot of but can't seem to quite get the processing right on it, I'll keep trying...

This is 94 30s shots merged together using the software from startrails.de.

Last night the annual Perseid meteor shower peaked. Supposedly there would be about one per minute on average. So I set the D7000 out on the porch and took a 25-second image every 30 seconds. This morning I used StarStaX to make this into a star trails image.

In addition to the stars I can see some clouds, the lights from Santa Fe and Algodones; even a lightning flash. But where are the meteor trails?

A nice startrail found in a box of "discarded slides" along with other interesting shots. The photo dates back to July 1998 and was taken with a 200mm f/4 telephoto lens.

Slide reproduced using the duplicator I built a few days ago. It seems to work perfectly.

Hard-drive find.

A floodlight shining over a wall casts light into the night whilst the startrails follow pretty much the same line as the shadow. Rays from the lighthouse looks like they're fusing on to the flagpole, and then there's the horizontal dots left by passing air traffic. Finally throw in some classic-orange light pollution creeping into the frame from the left and I think we're all set :)
