Interesting spoon-shaped petals of a Chrysanthemum. Dec. 2016.

The spoon drawer is a fascinating place. It contains all manner and shape of spoon. They are Omni-present, rarely appreciated, yet immensely useful.

The "waterfall" in the distance is a remnant of an old grist mill and dam on the Spoon River at Bernadotte, Illinois.

It almost looks antique, recently unearthed from the depths of this 1920s ground.

My resolution was to process less (or better) this year but I only took one photo and it was so rubbish and out of focus that I've had to process it to within an inch of its life just to get an image I'm vaguely ok with. Must give myself more than one option - lesson learned.

My wife and I bought this book many years ago, we rather liked having some silver spoons — but ours weren't valuable.

How many spoons have you got today?

In other news I put together a micro site for this project today, you should check it out and let me know what you think — Fifty of Fifty.

One of my personal challenges at the moment is a vague 'make cool things using spoons' I'm trying to avoid the traditional silverware jewelry you see, and in fact am mostly thinking of non jewelry objects.

To start I bought a handful of spoons from the thrift store and have spent a little time getting to know them. This is the 2'nd spoon I've altered. I liked the basic, minimal pattern on this one.

I'm not sure what I'll do with the bowl of the spoon, but the handle is a ring and what will be a pendant.

I prefer real photo postcards of paper moons but this series of printed comic postcard of a couple on the moon amuses me. I now have five cards since I bought four at the last postcard show to join the one I already had. It was mailed to Miss Walton in Rock Island, Illinois in 1909. The message reads " I guess this is how you get your weather information."

In Prairie Fires and Paper Moons by Hal Morgan and Andreas Brown it is suggested that the paper moons became a fixture because of popular songs like "Moonbeams" 1906, "Shine on Harvest Moon" 1908, and "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" 1909.

Spoons reflection on the snowy winter ahead.

Was stumped for a picture today until hubby laid this little treat out for me.

A pet hate for me is cutlery that doesn't match so dear husband decided to really try and wind me up.

He failed because the knife and fork match and we weren't using spoons!!!

I used a Gadget Infinity wireless radio trigger with a Speedlite 430EX behind a white translucent piece of plexiglass. The fishtank is set on a dark table to increase the contrast in the reflections. The Speedlite was set to 1/4th power zoomed to 50mm and optically triggered a 300W studio strobe that was set to 1/8th and stood camera-right on the opposite side of the tank. The maximum sync time of 1/200th made it impossible to avoid motion blur on the spoons.
