It's just another night

And I'm staring at the moon

I saw a shooting star

And thought of you

I sang a lullaby

By the waterside and knew

If you were here

I'd sing to you

You're on the other side

As the skyline splits in two

I'm miles away from seeing you

I can see the stars

From America?

I wonder, do you see them, too?

So open your eyes and see

The way our horizons meet

And all of the lights will lead

Into the night with me

And I know these scars will bleed

But both of our hearts believe

All of these stars will guide us home

Tune Queen & David Bowie - Under Pressure

Pressure

Pushing down on me

Pushing down on you, no man ask for

Under pressure

That burns a building down

Splits a family in two

Puts people on streets

Um-ba-ba-beh

Um-ba-ba-beh

Dee-day-da

E-day-da, that's okay

It's the terror of knowing what this world is about

Watching some good friends screaming

"Let me out"

Tomorrow, gets me higher

Pressure on people

People on streets

Dey-dey-dey-mm-hm

Da-da-da-ba-ba

Okay

Chipping around, kick my brains 'round the floor

These are the days, it never rains, but it pours

Ee-do-ba-be

Ee-da-ba-ba-ba

Um-bo-bo

Be-lap

People on streets

Ee-da-de-da-de

People on streets

Ee-da-de-da-de-da-de-da

It's the terror of knowing what this world is about

Watching some good friends screaming

"Let me out"

Tomorrow, gets me higher, higher

Pressure on people

People on streets

Turned away from it all like a blind man

Sat on a fence, but it don't work

Keep coming up with love, but it's so slashed and torn

Why? Why? Why?

Love (love, love, love, love)

Insanity laughs, under pressure we're breaking

Can't we give ourselves one more chance?

Why can't we give love that one more chance?

Why can't we give love, give love, give love?

Give love, give love, give love, give love?

'Cause love's such an old fashioned word

And love dares you to

Care for the people on the

Edge of the night (people on streets)

And love dares you

To change our way of

Caring about ourselves

This is our last dance

This is our last dance

This is ourselves

The river Skjálfandafljót splits into two streams due to the cliff to the left before forming the formidable Goðafoss waterfall in the Central-North region of Iceland. This makes the fall to be shaped like half a horse shoe with two main drops and several smaller spouts. In this panorama I have opted for a normal shutter speed to rather show the might of the river.

NS 9514 ("Lekker lezen doe je in de trein") is op weg als Intercity Utrecht Centraal - Den Haag Centraal en heeft zojuist de splitsing bij Moordrecht gepasseerd.

NS 9514, working the Intercity service from Utrecht to The Hague, has just passed the junction of railway lines near Moordrecht. This consist advertises "Lekker lezen doe je in de trein" (Comfortable reading in the train).

It will be a while before it is Easter, but Easterbear is already in the Netherlands. He visits a good friend: Ballet dancer Piggolina Ballerina.

PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:

How nice to see you again Easter Bear. It's been a year since we've spoken. You look good.

EASTER BEAR:

Thank you Piggolina. You're looking good too.

PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:

I'm just really busy you know. Soon I will have a ballet performance with the famous Scoutlova. I practise 6 hours every day.

EASTER BEAR:

Can you show some of your exercises?

PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:

I'll show you the splits.

EASTER BEAR:

Wow! How do you do that?

PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:

It's just stretch into splits

EASTER BEAR: (trying the splits....only half way)

Ouch....help Piggolina....I can't go any further.

PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:

Come...give me your paw....I'll pull you up.

Let's go for a drink...that seems more sensible to me.

EASTER BEAR:

I will never do this again!!!!!!!!!!!!

M693 splits the Calgon intermediates. These signals were cut over in December of 22. Though the Big Sandy was not our focus of the trip it was nice to take a small break off and see what it had to offer. Lots of new ideas for a return trip.

18M splits the signals at Long Island behind BNSF 7704. These CPL's are one of many pairs that are still in place on the former Virginain between Altavista and Patrick Henry.

The Black eye bar is a distinguishing feature that differentiates Male from female.

A pair of CN-paint Illinois Central SD70s, 1002 and 1008, make their way into Houston with UP's MREEWX-17, an extra manifest from Reisor Yard in Shreveport. The train splits the lanes of the Hardy Toll Road coming down the ex-MP Palestine Sub, with a healthy-sized train in tow.

I'm not sure what was burning back there above the lead unit, but it's a sight to be expected here in the rough Northside area.

Q576 splits the BC 45.3 intermediates at Pierceville on a late fall afternoon in southeastern Indiana.

L423 splits the town of Wapakoneta in two with a pair of KCS power. This power ironically came from a train that ran through my home turf, and somehow found its way out here. All ironically timed with the unfortunate approval of the CP KCS merger.

Many thanks to all those who fave or comment always very much appreciated

I have only seen bearded tits well on a few brief occasions and I've always dreamt of THE shot with a male doing the Reedhold splits. On an excellent morning in Minsmere, this male obliged just briefly.

Led by Phase IV painted anniversary unit 184, the westbound Southwest Chief splits the 783 semaphores between Ojita and Chapelle, NM.

121 splits the signals at Villa Rica north on a beautiful November morning on the speedway to sunshine.

A solo IC SD70 splits the 134.7 signals in the small town of Parnell, Illinois with the Clinton-based L585 local. These signals date back to the days of the Green Diamond, the Illinois Central's premier train from Chicago to Saint Louis. Inaugurated in 1936, it was the IC's first streamlined passenger train.

Passenger service on this line ended in 1971 with Amtrak's startup, and the line has been slowly downgraded since Illinois Central's merger with the GM&O in 1972. Despite only one scheduled freight and an occasional grain extra, ABS and CTC islands are still active on a majority of the line between Gilman and Springfield.

CN A439 splits the station signs at Northwood as they head west towards Windsor. An increasingly rare "Blue Devil" was assigned to this run for about 2 weeks giving many opportunities for chasing. A much more common Blue Jay can be seen flying next to the Northwood sign on the left.

Train: CN A439 with IC 2456 (C40-8W), CN 2202 (C44-9W), and GMTX 2279 (GP38-2).

The Bear River splits around a small island of hardwood trees, comes together again on the other side, and resumes its course. On one side the little island, the river moves smooth and quiet in the morning sunlight. On the other side, it crashes angrily through a shady spot full of rocks. This scene feels like a metaphor for my recent life.

Recently, our long time band lost two of its members. This past weekend we came together with many old friends and memorialized them with a two day musical event in Arnold, CA. It wasn't exactly a Viking's send off, but it was poignant none-the-less. As I say goodbye to old friends, I eagerly await the arrival of a new one. Today is the due date for our first grand baby. The cycle of life rolls on.

Like the river, life is always changing and always moving forward--through dangerous rapids and smooth flowing quiet spots it splashes on. There is beauty to be found in all of it--if you dare to look.

The Looe River splits into two branches just north of the bridge in Looe in south-east Cornwall. The East Looe River has its sources in the hills just to the south of Liskeard while the West Looe River also has its sources in several streams that run through steeply wooded valleys just a little further to the west. It then flows south past Herodsfoot, Churchbridge and Watergate before meeting the East Looe River almost opposite Looe Station, which is on the east bank of the Looe River.

NS 21E splits the signals at CP CONPIT, running intermodal cans west with the Conemaugh Generating Station dominating the sky in the distance.

CSX Q576 splits the BC-58 signals in the small town of Holton, Indiana, a town of just over 400 on the historic B&O mainline to Saint Louis. Holton's post office, located on the left, has been in continuous operation since the railroad arrived in 1854.

J37 splits the intermediate searchlights south of Waterous. It's a shame these signals are in such a terrible location, as they are some of the last searchlights remaining in the region.

P001 splits the intermediates at Fort Blackmore as a dozen or so photographers fire away. One photographer took it upon himself to set his phone up in the middle of the tracks, and stood there until he was promptly yelled at to move as the train came around the curve.

LM splits the blades at the former site of Placer on the Northern Pacific.

UP 1996 splits the uprights at milepost 220 on the CSX (ex-Pennsy) St. Louis line, south of Troy, IL, working with UP 5300 to lug over 500 axles of Q684 to Indianapolis.

1996 led the MNPIN-P into Alton and Southern's Gateway yard on Thanksgiving and was later turned north to jump on CSX at HN Cabin. I was busy chasing UP 1995 at the time, so was extra thankful to be able to load up willing family members and chase this one to Vandalia.

CSX G438 splits the searchlights at Baskett outside of Henderson as it charges westward with a well-worn YN2 in the lead, and 90 grain empties bound for Evansville in tow. After nearly 4 years of dormancy (minus a brief couple month stint in 2022), road trains have finally returned to the LH&St.L Subdivision, better known as the Texas Line, with two daily rack trains, and as needed coal, grain, and bulk commodity trains making up the traffic over the line.

Summer in the city where the air is still

A baby being born to the overkill

Well who cares what people say

We walk down love's motorway

Ambition and love wearing boxing gloves

And singing hearts and flowers

But somewhere in my heart

There is a star that shines for you

Silver splits the blue

Love will see it through

And somewhere in my heart

There is the will to set you free

All you've got to be

Is true

A star above the city in the northern chill

A baby being born to the overkill

No say, no place to go

A TV, a radio

Ambition and love wearing boxing gloves

And singing hearts and flowers

But somewhere in my heart

There is a star that shines for you

Silver splits the blue

Love will see it through

And somewhere in my heart

There is the will to set you free

All you've got to be

Is true

Who could heal

What's never been as one

And our hearts have been torn

Since the day we were born

Just like anyone

From Westwood to Hollywood

The one thing that's understood

Is that you can't buy time

But you can sell your soul

And the closest thing to heaven is to rock and roll

But somewhere in my heart

There is a star that shines for you

Silver splits the blue

Love will see it through

And somewhere in my heart

There is the will to set you free

All you've got to be

Is true

Somewhere in my heart

There is a star that shines for you

Silver splits the blue

Love will see it through

And somewhere in my heart

There is the will to set you free

All you've got to be

BLOL #7504 splits the massive grain silos of the small community of Charlotte, Illinois on the former IC Bloomington District. After making a set out at the elevator, the train will take the remaining empties up to Cullom for loading.

August 5th, 2024 finds me out along the Ohio Central mainline west of Mingo Junction, OH on the former PRR Panhandle Mainline to Chicago at Miller Station, OH. The location of a small yard (if you want to call it that) where a small industrial spur splits off up to serve Hopedale Mining's Nelms No.2 Mine.

The Wheeling and Lake Erie had taken delivery of an empty train from Norfolk Southern to load for Baltimore and exporting overseas. Power to get the train from Mingo Junction, OH to the mine outside of Hopedale required the use of the ever venerable but reliable SD40-2 for power, and 4 of them at that. Every bit of that 12,000 horsepower needed to will the 10,000+ ton train up and over the twisting winding 1% grade to Pittsburgh Junction, then downhill the rest of the way on return to Mingo.

The Niagara river splits into two 'streams' above the Falls to create the American Falls on the left, and the Horseshoe Falls on the right.

There is always a heavy spray from the incredible amount of falling waters so cameras get wet pretty quickly, even up to a half kilometer away!

or should I say... about to do the splits!
