The Tranquility Pod is a multisensory biofeedback environment. This is the pod that uses pleasant sound, gentle vibration, and soothing light to transport the body, mind, and spirit to a tranquil state of relaxation. Designed by Alberto Frias, designer of the pods for Men in Black III. Handcrafted from fiberglass into a smooth, shiny gel-coat surface, the pod’s ellipsoid exterior blocks 90% of outside noise while its interior foci ameliorate music played from the integrated 80-watt, four-speaker sound system via an iPhone/iPod or smartphone. The system’s subwoofer generates gentle vibration through the bed, resonating through the body to impart restful harmony. The pod’s biofeedback system—an exclusive feature only available from Hammacher Schlemmer—uses a pulse sensor that synchronizes your heartrate with 50 LEDs housed in the pod’s inner perimeter that create ambient mood lighting for calming the mind. The LEDs change colors at your command from the built-in controller or wirelessly from an iPhone or smartphone app. The pod’s elliptical opening reveals a 76"-diam. ultra-suede-topped, memory foam cushion that covers an octagonal waterbed with two lofty ultra-suede pillows. The waterbed is temperature controlled (85-90° F) from a panel. Special conditions and guarantee limitations apply. 78" Diam. x 42" H. (350 lbs.). Price $30,000. www.hammacher.com/Product/12195

I made a drive to the VFW Hall in Fargo, ND to see old Oly, WA heroes Dub Narcotic Sound System. When Things Break, The Death, and French Toast were supporting acts. Calvin Johnson, the brains behind this band--ostensibly--won't play venues that children can't get into. They always play non-bar kind of places. Part of the twee DIY ethic, I guess. I recorded the show and it turned out pretty good.

Critical Mass - London - January 2007

This was one of three bikes carrying the most impressive sound system I've yet to see on CM. This bike was connected to the 'sound cannon' bike by a wireless connection.

Two hefty speakers were blasting out the sound and the laptop/projector combination was displaying patterns on passing buildings.

There are some videos of all this on my blog - 1000 Thoughts or Less

Most weeks at Seven Sisters Camera Club, we have a problem with the microphones. We have a few hard of hearing members who rely on the loop system, so we have to use a microphone.

Anyways, last night was the Christmas party and we had a quiz set by Alan Carter (seated). Our chairman, Clinton Taylor (in the Christmas jumper), rigged up a new mic :))

The other chap is Alan Clark, who is in charge of the sound system.

Critical Mass - London - January 2007

This was the main component in the most impressive sound system I've ever seen at CM. Inside the guy's jacket is an iPod nano. Atop the pile of batteries and amps is a wireless base unit. Behind that is a massive speaker and towed behind was a 'sound cannon' that was probably about three metres in length, with the most incredible bass tone you've ever heard.

Two other bikes ( here and here), connected wirelessly, carried further speakers.
