View allAll Photos Tagged Sleeplessness,
Early November an i'm staying at a cottage in Staithes, on the Yorkshire coast. My stay coincided with three things:
- a bout of unseasonably balmy weather.
- heavy drinking.
- insomnia.
So i'd drunkenly wander the empty streets in the wee hours, shoeless and wearing only pyjama bottoms. Fortunately there was no one there to judge, or maybe they were bolted indoors for their own safety.
Whatever, i would find myself down by the jetty staring out into the blackness. Far off lights would flicker across the sea, a warning to the little fishing boats heading out at an ungodly hour.
One morning i turned a different corner and came across this scene- i raced back for my camera and despite my inebriation i captured this.
I had a great week!

"Sightless he watches the columns collide
As he wanders the canyons relentlessly wide
Empires are burning, the rain cuts his skin
And in every direction the sound closes in
Time, only time, have I
And already I’m not okay"

I left Las Vegas at midnight with Chris, drove two and half hours to Badwater to meet up with Eddie. We took a quick nap in the car and then walked into the seemingly endless Badwater. We saw shooting star, Milky Way, beautiful city light and salt after salt...

The view of downtown at night from Kerry Park. I'm working on a "planet view" from this spot and if I like the way it turns out I will post it later.

When I was roaming around his to take his sleeping shots he suddenly woke up and started seeing like this at my phone camera.

Started the day off ridiculously early this morning, around 2am for the drive to Llandudno to catch the sunrise. Picking Tony up on the way we set off in the pitch black, making it just in time to set up near the pier and wait for the glow on the horizon.
The weather forecast wasn't ideal, but the tide conditions were good plus we'd convinced ourself on going so didn't shy away. When we got there cloud cover was quite intense but we just caught the glimmer of sun behind the hills forming Llandudno Bay so I wasn't dissapointed after the long drive. An hour later we wern't so lucky ... the rain started!
Walking around the Bay so early was quite wierd, i've never seen it without flocks of tourists and holiday makers so it made a pleasant change to be able to get shots where folk would normally block the view. We litterally didn't see anyone for hours!
After an hour or so at the Bay and under the Peir it was time to head to McDonalds for breakfast. Yum!
The Shot:
Nikon D5000, Sigma 10-20 @ 10mm, 8secs, F16, ISO200. Hitech 0.6 Hard Graduated ND over the sky & a Lee 0.9 ND over the entire shot. Processed in Elements 10.
Thanks for looking and please feel free to comment - there always appreciated :)
It was not really late. However I was in bed already, dead quiet, in such a cold winter night, with Ozone in the other planet (6 hrs aways from home), this is all I can do, watching the time goes by...tig tag tig tag.....
Depending on time constraints one may not be able to partake in the luxury of sleep due to the multitude of sights and activities available in Seattle.
This shot of downtown Seattle was taken from the city's landmark Space Needle.
What I liked about this photo is the alternating dark and bright spots on the street created by street lights that leads all the way down the sloping hill. That "forced" sensation of rolling down the hill added the sense reality which puts the viewer right there in the scene.
And I often sigh
I often wonder why
I'm still here and still I cry
And I often cry
I often spill a tear
Over those not here
But still they are so near
Please ease my burden
And I still remember
A memory and I weep
In my broken sleep
The scars they cut so deep
Please ease my burden
Please ease my pain
Oh, no more...
SLEEPLESS !!!
