Scientific Name: Argiope Anasuja
Family: Araneidae
Description: The Signature Spider is found in the moist deciduous forests of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
These spiders construct vertical webs in shrubby plants and decorate their webs with stabilimenta (conspicuous silk structures). The Signature Spider holds its legs together in pairs, making it look like a creature with four legs instead of eight. They usually rest in a head down position on the web. As one approaches the web, they hold their position until the last moment before slipping round in a flash to hide on the other side of the stabilimentum. Argiope is spread across tropics to temperate regions.
Last trip to Tokyo Japan was a time to order calendar and schedule book for 2008. It has been an important period of the year when we order thousands of products in a short period of 4 days in "International Stationery Show (ISOT)" in Japan, intense and nervous. Every year we travel there to see the sample products and based on previous years' experience and data we place order intelligently for our customers. It is also a time to remind us of our important city'super Japan director Ms. Okuyama san's birthday. She accompanies us everyday to help talk to vendors and arrange followup orders and we owe her a lot.
So this year, in addition to paying the debt to her by sending her 2 Moet champaigns, I drew this postcard in our hotel and sent before we left for Hong Kong. The charm I used was bought from "Memory Lane" or "Keepsake" I don't remember. I used up all the "7"s and so I used capital L reversed to take care of the July part on this postcard. Yes 19th July is Ms. Okuyama's birthday.
Color coordination is the most difficult part coz I couldn't bring all of the acrylic paints, just 6 colors I deemed useful in most occasions. So this time I chose Brown and Orange as the main color and cut off painstakingly from magazines suitable characters and photos for this postcard. As usual, I like darker background with light color highlight.
I also bought some of the very useful white stuffs for use. Any brand of acrylic white is fine for me. I also bought Sakura's Souffle and Aqualip transparent and Uni ball Signo's white rollerball to produce light and white color on the dark background I painted. Each of these pen has their very own unique characteristics, so I had plenty methods to explore.
Finally, I love to spend hours on simple but heartful postcard while I'm abroad. The recipients will certainly appreciate the effort and the special messages tailored for them, not in words only but also in drawing/painting.
A signature coin from Passing Wind. Jason has several signature items that he has made and placed over his short caching career. All of his items tend to focus on his little cherub friend. The name "PassingWind" actually came from the name of a members-only bar/club located on a beach in Bermuda where he worked for several years. The cherub was the bar icon.
