This historic Service Station, located in the St. Johns neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, has been preserved and is now a pizza restaurant.

Grade II listed signal box (Rhondda Branch Junction signal box) closed in 1998 and now boarded up is a modified version of McKenzie and Holland's type 3 design built between the Taff Vale Railway main line to the right and the Rhondda Branch to the left in 1902 controlling 230 levers.

Up on Signal Hill in Saguaro National Park's Tucson Mountain District.

The hill is inscribed with Hohokam art but not too much of it is available, the Park Service clearly doesn't want us exploring. In the rocky area below the most interesting art (not posted here) there's a small sign saying "Rattlesnake Area". It could be just a way of getting us to stay out but it really does look like a place rattlers would be hanging out so ... no sense messing around, the photo wouldn't be worth it :^)

After being preserved by the locals best ability.

The Signal du Lure, the little sister of Ventoux

This photo appeared in the 7 April, 1934 edition of The Sphere.

The signals have been locked out as the box is no longer normally used, hence the conflicting OFF signals (you can see the other signal just in front of the station).

Culgaith Signal Box is on the Settle to Carlisle line and is situated next to only one of two level crossings on the entire line, the other being at Low House Crossing. The box was built to Midland 4a design in 1908 with a 16 lever Midland frame op the same date. The box works Absolute Block to Low House Crossing SB and Kirkby Thore SB.

I've been meaning to get to the East Coast Trail for some night shots for a long time, but I'm kind of weary of the dark. So, I finally made a spontaneous decision last night to go around 3am. It was a good night for it, but I didn't stay on the trail for too long.

On the way back I dropped by Tim Horton's and a cop looked at me suspiciously, then I realized I had a very large tree branch hanging off of my camera bag, it must have been hanging there for a good half hour while I was walking.

This signal here east of Monroe Center won't be here much longer as this is the location of the new siding in Illinois due to the CPKC merger.

Traffic signal change along Business US 70 at Business 271 in Hugo, Oklahoma.

Now sadly demolished (late October / early November 2013) ... what a shame.

This is a strange setup. The housing looks similar to that of their all-in-one school beacon systems; I'm not sure if this is a reused one of those, or if this was the original setup.

Bradkirk signal box. August 1958. Photographer unknown.

This signal box was located between Kirkham and Weeton on the Preston to Fleetwood railway line. The fast lines from Kirkham to Blkackpool South passed at the rear of the signal box. It was demolished in November 1972.

The signal box on the northern side of Ballarat Station lies in a state of disuse and disrepair. Ballarat is not short on signal boxes, with another large box to the east of the station, with further signal boxes at Ballarat North and Ballarat East junctions.

Woodside Park station, North Finchley. This signal box looked lovely until metal bits were installed around it and it got a dull paint job.

Wayside signals, as seen on the Funicolare Montesanto and Funicolare Centrale in Naples, Italy.

Why does a funicular railway need signals when it consists of two cars connected by a cable? The signals display red/green aspects based on whether the doors of the cars are open/closed. I'm not certain why this is necessary, as I would imagine there is some failsafe to prevent the system from starting when the doors of one car are still open.

Red-green: The doors of one car are closed, presumably those of the right-hand car (with respect to when they pass each other) on the cable

BKH has a mechanical one. What are they for?

These flies seem to float or dance when they move and sometimes they move diagonally in a strange pattern. Quite curious to watch and difficult to photograph because it's impossible to preempt where they will move to next.

Bagged temp signals. Mostly McCain, TCT and Econolite mixed in.

Southern Railway gantry style signals glow over NS tracks south of Charlottesville, VA.

This was the panel that replaced the lever frame in Ballymena signal cabin. Signalling at Ballymena is now controlled from Coleraine.

I was surprised to find Semaphore signals still in use at a main line station in 2012

Brocklesby station and signal box sseen just before closure of the box in October 2015 just before York ROC took over control of the area.

The box is a curiosity, not only is it sunk into the island platform but its panel was intended as an emergency one that could switch in and out as required. The box was to close and Ulceby would have taken over the immediate area, however Brocklesby Signal Box remained and the panel took its place within the huge box, whose levers were removed and the frame boarded over, but it still remained beneath.
