Pencil sharpener
At least the sharpener has been made in Poland, ca 1960s
It says N.S.U. on the bottom, but it is a Panhard
exactly what l said.
this building was in a scene in the early 90's movie "Sneakers" starring Robert Redford and River Phoenix.
Amy took this one, of her 'desk stuff'. I liked it so much, i asked her to let me upload it for her to share.

Riding the Ducks on Chad’s birthday
Rincon, though not the tallest building in the city (it’s actually shorter than the Millenium Tower which is the building just behind to the right), sure stands out in a strange way. That’s because the base sits on top of the hill. It sure has the oscillating fan aesthetic.
Shooting notes: From where I was sitting, the top of the DUKW would always get in the way, I had to heal that away (in the upper right). The sun had set too much bt he time I got this view so I tried to get the sun glinting off of One Rincon with the Pier 38 boats forming a forest in the foreground. Had I had more time, maybe I could have placed the building a little differently (to the right)
Processing notes: Tried to use Viveza insead of digital nd grad to balance the lighting. I had a lot of dynamic range to wrok for once, but I opted to try to retain the dramatic lighting (what little there was by this time).

A random subject matter, but the grey winter light coming in the window made my pencil sharpener look pretty!
The count as our visit 3,283, and as Paul adamantly reminds you, "there are no duplicates. That would spoil the museum" Metal, plastic, stately, silly, animals, buildings, superheroes, cars and trains-- Paul's collection fills the shelves in a specially built structure at the side of his house. The 84-year old former pastor and veteran of WWII says the quest has literally helped keep him alive, and even if computers make sharpeners irrelevant, the Pencil Sharpener Museum will forge on.

The Bottom half is a thick red glass jar. Not ideal for travel but well made!

Early Prototype of the Tesla CD Turbine Pencil Sharpener.
Innovative shaft-less bearing-less turbine, which consists of 2 CD discs and 4 magnets inside a CD jewel-case.
This CD Turbine ran the pencil sharpener ran up to 1200 rpm, but it vibrated due to the unbalanced crank arm of the sharpener. Also there was not enough torque, because the single magnet coupling would slip.
In the next version, a 4 magnet coupling is used on the sharpener that doubles as a flywheel...and that does the trick!

these were ubiquitously found in classrooms across the country (US), bolted to walls or screwed onto low bookcases. googled to check the web for some history and it's not as old as i had originally thought-- maybe in the 1950s or 1960s. over the years it had acquired a patina of grime and oil from one hand holding the top while the other hand cranked, so i cleaned a patch to see what the surface really looked like. the inside is almost as cool and if you had ever emptied one, you've seen the 2 spiral cutting surfaces.... ah, ha another photo op.
btb, the top proudly proclaims BOSTON and there were several pencil sharpener companies in massachusetts and new england.

Little things amuse me. Finding a replica pencil sharpener of the one I used to have as a child has thrilled me to pieces. I sharpened every single pencil in the house.
I r a dork.
One result of the Ann Kullberg class, is that this lovely participant is going to teach a workshop in my studio in April on Using the iPad in/for your art. A number of the artists present had iPads, and together they influenced others of us to see the many uses for one's art-making and art business. Some of us connected with the Apple Store soon after.
