some sensors ready to try!

With no small particles in the air, the IR beam goes straight into the wall of the housing. The wall is black and absorbs a great deal of the radiation. The little fins might be angled in such a way that the reflected radiation bounces around many times, which further attenuates it. Ideally nothing ever hits the sensor. The main purpose of this construction is to allow smoke-carrying air penetrate the walls, but keep ambient light out.

When tiny smoke particles are present in the center of the sensor, they scatter some of the IR light towards the sensor. You hear a very load beep.

I added an accelerometer (tilt-sensor) in my monome. It's the ADXL-320 with -/+5g sensor:

It was glued to a small piece of rubber on top of the chip. Works like a charm.

Line array sensor 512 pixels. For a new detetor to capture flying moths at night. Film is ready to make the PCBs. The aim is to build a tunnel with laser detection for flying moths at night.

The line sensor effective lenght is 64mm as detector. The exposure is done with a 650 nm laser line.

I installed this sensor connected to a buzzer to warn me when the water level on the Landy becomes low. Simple but effective.

Incredibly tiny photo-etch parts attached to three of the four landing struts. The sensor probes on the landing pads were locked in place using these mechanisms prior to deployment.

The increasing miniaturization of assemblies demands the smallest possible yet still high-performance components. Balluff’s new line of miniature sensors meet these requirements. With small dimensions and top performance, they offer a great degree of freedom in design and make possible considerably more applications.

Miniature sensors are available from Balluff in all operating principles: as inductive, photoelectric, magnetic, capacitive, and ultrasonic. Available for each sensor technology are compact inductive couplers, space-saving I/O modules and RFID in miniature versions.

The extensive Balluff product line includes mini sensors and compact connection technology which are ideally suited for factory automation – especially for robotics, handling, and production lines. Particularly in robotics, on production lines or in handling applications, low weight is a key requirement for being able to achieve fast cycle times. Another advantage is the reduced space requirement, which increases flexibility in a tightly packed machine compartment. Balluff mini sensors guarantee high precision and reliability.

The shortest inductive M12 sensor in the world – with a length of 12 or 17 mm (can be mounted flush or non flush) – is included in Balluff’s Mini product line. It’s so small that it can be integrated in, among other places, extremely compact linear slides, valves, and actuators.

Image of my sensor needing a good cleaning (see the dirty spot on the left). The green color soesn't indicate anything, just that I did'nt white balance before this.

To obtain such an image:

- Go to maximum aperture (f.22 or f.30)

- Adjust speed and take a white surface shot (long exposure is not a problem, if you move the camera when taking the image it avoid confusion between the white surface dirt and sensor dirt).

- Apply an auto-level on the shot, here is the result.

Sony claims that the camera can take photos in the dark. Not quite but still pretty cool. I could hand-hold these long exposures. The CCD sensor is amazing.

I'm guessing that's the pot for reading the aperture ring position.
