I added an accelerometer (tilt-sensor) in my monome. It's the ADXL-320 with -/+5g sensor:

It was glued to a small piece of rubber on top of the chip. Works like a charm.

Force-Touch Sensor – Cambridge Graphene Center/University of Cambridge (UK)

Graphene-based touch sensors for screens enable the tracking of force as well as the location of touch points. Printed graphene sensors provide low cost sensor circuits that can be easily integrated with smart screens. Force sensitivity adds another dimension to touch control of smartphones and devices for natural human-machine interaction.

You could demand Environment Agency open data for flooding and muck about with APIs or you could just put your swimmies on and get under the bridges, set up your own sensor network.

Your choice.

This is the second generation of the Betamax proximity sensor. It operates the same way, except I separated the light and buzzer function. The light comes on after 10 seconds, the the buzzer comes on after an additional 10 seconds. This is a self contained unit with a mast that can be seen from a distance.

The increasing miniaturization of assemblies demands the smallest possible yet still high-performance components. Balluff’s new line of miniature sensors meet these requirements. With small dimensions and top performance, they offer a great degree of freedom in design and make possible considerably more applications.

Miniature sensors are available from Balluff in all operating principles: as inductive, photoelectric, magnetic, capacitive, and ultrasonic. Available for each sensor technology are compact inductive couplers, space-saving I/O modules and RFID in miniature versions.

The extensive Balluff product line includes mini sensors and compact connection technology which are ideally suited for factory automation – especially for robotics, handling, and production lines. Particularly in robotics, on production lines or in handling applications, low weight is a key requirement for being able to achieve fast cycle times. Another advantage is the reduced space requirement, which increases flexibility in a tightly packed machine compartment. Balluff mini sensors guarantee high precision and reliability.

The shortest inductive M12 sensor in the world – with a length of 12 or 17 mm (can be mounted flush or non flush) – is included in Balluff’s Mini product line. It’s so small that it can be integrated in, among other places, extremely compact linear slides, valves, and actuators.

Image of my sensor needing a good cleaning (see the dirty spot on the left). The green color soesn't indicate anything, just that I did'nt white balance before this.

To obtain such an image:

- Go to maximum aperture (f.22 or f.30)

- Adjust speed and take a white surface shot (long exposure is not a problem, if you move the camera when taking the image it avoid confusion between the white surface dirt and sensor dirt).

- Apply an auto-level on the shot, here is the result.

This shot through the viewfinder of an Ensign Ful-Vue shows the amount of grot that has accumulated over 60 years inside this old camera. So the next job is to try and disassemble the viewfinder to give it a bit of a clean.

This wasn't a very good photo, but it does illustrate that these "specks" will appear even if the image is out-of-focus. If you don't clean the image sensor of the Canon EOS 300D, small spots of bright red and blue will appear during longer exposures. Sometimes very tiny white pixels will also form on the image.

The red tint on the headlights and interior was created by pointing a laser them during long exposure.
