Image of my sensor just after a good cleaning (small spots are left, but it's not a problem for usual images). The darker parts on the corner are due to vignetting and not some kind of sensor dirt. This is perfectly OK.

To obtain such an image:

- Go to maximum aperture (f.22 or f.30)

- Adjust speed and take a white surface shot (long exposure is not a problem, if you move the camera when taking the image it avoid confusion between the white surface dirt and sensor dirt).

- Apply an auto-level on the shot, here is the result.

When I tried to use my camera this month, I noticed that the upper right-hand corner of my images were blurry. I checked the sensor and discovered physical damage on the sensor.

I added the little tab above the foot of each probe using leftover PE fret material.

This is perhaps an unfair comparison, but it matches the "best" ISO of each camera. The Canon point and shoot SD950-IS actually does pretty well against the mighty Nikon D300 SLR. This makes me glad that I chose the SD950-IS.

After you click on the link, you will have to mouse over the image to get a magnifying glass icon. Click while holding the magnifying glass over the image and you will be able to view it full size.

The focal length in each image is approximately equivalent to 55-60mm once you convert to the standardized 35 mm equivalency.

The white balance in each image was set on "AUTO."

There is absolutely no post-processing done on either image - including no sharpening. These images are "right off the card," except for some trimming around the edges to make the viewing areas match as well as I could do it.

See: www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/2372413161/ for a related test showing equal ISO settings.

I should reshoot this test setting the D300 at ISO 100, although that is in the "extended ISO range" for the camera and I doubt it will be better than ISO 200.

Received my sensor cleaning kit from Edmonton, Canada, yesterday.

A black spot appeared repeatedly on the images taken at small apertures such as f/22. Inspired by this video i ordered Giotto's Blower along with Visible Dust's Arctic Butterfly. These products are not available in India so my friend got them for me from abroad.

Now my sensor can stay dust free. :)

These are some Lego Mindstorm type sensors that I have made

The speedo sensor is fixed to one of the gearbox mounting points and picks up the three lobes on the output flange of the gearbox. The sensor has to be set 2mm from the lobes. It is supplied with spring washers but I also used a dab of threadlock to hopefully stop it loosening by vibration.

An assortment of the most common sensors used in electronics. 9 sensors and 3 additional components to interface with the 'analog world'. We have some tutorials here, to get you started.

Includes

* Sharp distance sensor with cable - for sensing distance

* Force sensitive resistor - for sensing pressure/force

* Temperature sensor - for measuring from -40 to over +125 degrees C

* Thermistor - another method of sensing temperature

* Hall effect sensor - for sensing a magnet

* Magnet - for use with the hall effect

* Piezo - can be used as a buzzer or a knock sensor

* Ball tilt sensor - for sensing orientation

* Photo cell sensor - for sensing light

* IR sensor - for sensing infrared light pulsing at 38KHz

* IR LED - for use with the IR sensor

How a little drive-thru roadside sensor detects emissions. My car was nabbed this way once in Reno but at least they gave me $20 for my troubles (it was actually an error by the technician IIRC).

The 'Marine Sensor' is road towable, and with a small forward cabin, can deploy from a slipway or boat hoist / crane and able to operate a wide variety of sensors.

Her hulls and catamaran configuration lend a fast transit speed and give good directional stability resulting in high quality survey data.

River Dargle Flood Defence Scheme.

These images were taken during the third week of June 2014. Preparation and constructions works are now underway in this area of the The Slang/Dargle River.

JONS Civil Engineering would appear to have the contract to devise/construct/complete a retaining wall along the La Vallee office+apartment stretch of riverbank. Much of the early work involves removal of plant material along the riverbanks, adjacent to the office-apartments complexes. Heavy machinery now appears on site, rows of sheetpile steel lengths are trucked in, and carefully laid out, access ramp down to the riverbed is cut and graded, and hard-core of varying grades is stockpiled. The continued dry, sunny weather is a welcome relief for this production work.

You need to be steady handed to replace the battery in this one!

... it's under the transducer and glued to it.

The case had to be sawed open.
