Pale pitcher plant, Screw Pin Creek, Newton County, May 2018

Pitchers at this site tend to have unusually red lids. Due to drought it was difficult to find intact pitchers, but this one displays some nice coloration.

As far as I know, this is the first of its kind to be documented from this particular county.

Today, the bog garden is showing of it's best of Sarracenia flava var. flava (yellow pitcher plant) flowers. There are other varieties (and colors) in tight bud. So, for the next few weeks, there will be additional shots that will show the variety in color of the pitcher plant flowers.

This is one I bought last year, so it's the first time it has bloomed. I believe it has some Sarracenia alata in its parentage because of the way the petals flare out toward the apex.

I had a permit for this area but these plants were not easy to access. I could swear sometimes you end up walking uphill both ways.
