Jen suggested we head to Hooter's after Failte. It turns out she actually said "Huether," as in "Huether Hotel." It was just down the street, and it included the Lion Brewery Restaurant, where they brew their own beers. There were a bunch of choices, but fortunately they had a sampler.
The waitress seemed apologetic that they had a lime beer available. Apparently the Bud Light Lime was a craze around here and they felt they needed to compete? Anyway, it was okay, but I enjoyed their basic Lion Lager.
From CrossStitcher 232, but due to my very limited stash it's not on the 'right' blue aida or with the 'right' DMC colours, but i like it a lot. the somewhat randomly placed scroll bits of backstitch were a bit of a challenge!
it was going to be a card for my parents, but i'm keeping it! i'm going to make it up into a little framed picture. it's in keeping with the little Scarecrow sampler, so now i think i'll have to do one for spring and summer as well.
An antique cross-stitch sampler that dates back to 1820, made by Rebecca Valentine. My mother-in-law bought it and framed it under glass, which gave me a lot of trouble trying to avoid reflections.

I made this ribbon embroidery wedding sampler for my son and daughter-in-law. It was the first time I'd ever done ribbon embroidery. From the date on it, you can see that it is 10 years old.
Core samplers remove cylindrical samples, or “cores,” of undisturbed soil that we use to study soil profiles, which are collections of soil layers. Profiles help us identify and characterize a forest’s soil.
First sampler size 6 by 8 inches. Used fabric, gold metallic ribbon, wool, flannel. Black border is part ribbon, too fussy, and strips from my son's corduroy pants.
I really love the daisy in this little "a." How adorable!

Off to the Comics and Books Exchange at Notting Hill to buy a book I could have got for 2p on Amazon but it was an impulse. EDIT: No, to be fair, the cheapest copy on Amazon is £5.02, so I saved 2p. This copy came with a postcard I can send off to the publisher for a brochure. I leave the price sticker on so that people will know I bought it from the Comics and Books Exchange.
It's an appreciation of contemporary music packaging, published in May 1999. There's a melancholic air to it - the book was being published just physical music was dying out. The examples for the most part haven't really dated, although that could be because my tastes were formed at the time. I imagine that a graphic design student bought this in 1999 when he was doing his degree, and sold it shortly afterwards and is now working in a call centre somewhere, or he designs graphics for television shopping channels and wants to die.
There's something a bit odd about looking at pictures of covers of records that I actually own - why not look at the actual record covers?
We had mobile phones in 1999, and used them for voice communication. Fancy that. This was published at the apothesis of Aphex Twin's mainstream penetration, it was all downhill from here.
When last seen, my floss colour wheel was missing a good green and blue. Or rather, I had yet to find one I liked. I knew I wanted something that at least reminded me of Hooker's Green, though what I finally picked has a definite influence of Forest Green.
When picking up craft paint to finish St George, I grabbed an "Azure" and I liked how it acted with both yellow and red, so there you go, a blue I do not want to kill. The floss is a little lighter, but whatev.
There are spaces for paint swatches, when I unpack the paints. I used my basic lettering alphabet and my favourite dozen-plus stitches, which are mostly chain and buttonhole variants.

I love the way cables look, but they annoy me when I have to knit them. I'm very glad I'm almost done with this square as I feel they've taken entirely too much time and I want to move on. I also screwed up and zagged when I should have zigged...oh well.
