Last week Little Burrito tried to chase away the UPS driver he loathes. He suddenly screamed, and fell down, seemingly unable to move. I thought maybe he had stubbed a toe or something and carried him indoors, where he seemed to be okay. Later that evening though, he had the same trouble when he tried to run to the door when Jim came home. He made the same scream and couldn't move, but then was okay. I contacted his vet and she said it seemed unlikely to be something like a back problem and we made arrangements to have him visit her this week.
As it turns out, he has what are called Luxating Patellae, which means his knees are prone to dislocate and then go back into place, I realize now that he has had a knee problem for a long time. He has pretty much always done a little "bunny hop" when walking. Apparently this is an indication that his knee will pop out of joint, and the little hop is him kicking his leg to get it back in place.
He is now taking anti-inflammatory medication, and is on mostly bed rest. I need to try to keep him from jumping up as this puts undue pressure on his joints. And he is to be on a diet as he is supposed to lose 5 pounds. One side effect of his medication is reduced appetite, and I am hoping this helps to accustom him to eating less at his meals. He has always loved his food though so this will not be easy!!
lil tuna looking sad...or giving the sad-puppy-look next to the swimming pool =P ...
A wifey shot...
She likes it way more than the cone. We all got some sleep last night and she seemed happier this morning
She was running super fast, as she does, though our back woods and hit something sharp with her back leg/groin area and required a bunch of stitches. She's pretty miserable and kept us up all night running into/knocking over everything with her cone...
Awww.... why so sad?! I think he wants his mousie toy. Yes, mousie toy. He is in love with a toy meant for a cat.
We got Winston on Sunday. He's a Yorkshire Terrier (and possibly has a little Pomeranian in his lineage). He's about 10 weeks old now.
Today was a said day for Walter the Dog, and for me, as his father. You see, today in an act of sheer sadism, Sarah decided it was time for Walter to be de-balled.
Granted, Walter has been humping everything in sight for the past month, but I think Sarah's reaction was a bit extreme. Today, when Walter returned home with a cone around his head and a sad look in his eyes, I couldn't help but think about the happy days. So Walter, in honor of your younger and less vulnerable years, this goes out to you.

I've had Puppy Mocha for 2 weeks. She is still not sure what to think of the camera (especially the flash)

My mom sent me this - it is adorable! I collect the sad puppy planters and I think it is great that she found one with a ball of yarn.
astro broke a nail pretty severely, this was last sunday and the vet wasn't open until monday, we wrapped it up, he wasn't too happy about it....
Dinner at Kate's with Langen. The plan had been for them to practice makin' music after dinner (and me to enjoy the music). But then Kate's big dachshund Rufus decided to take a bite out of her much smaller dachshund Toots, which meant the rest of the night was spent doing emergency vetrinary first aid. Poor little doggie was not a happy little doggie.
