Since 2002, the flag has been hung on the Wrigley Building every Fourth of July.
I came across this shot in my archive. As near as I can tell, they still do this as of last year.

The epic movie 'Gone With The Wind' was released on December 13, 1939, in Atlanta, Georgia. Now, 77 years later, it still plays annually at the famous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.
It has about a month since temperatures here in Virginia have dipped below 70, and seemingly every evening brings with it the chance of severe storms. Such was the case on this evening at long bridge, where the nice light of golden hour gradually transitioned into storm lighting. The good thing here is it's so busy, you have a good opportunity to take advantage of it. Shooting passenger ops, or "window trains" as a friend of mine says, normally isn't my thing. But when the light's this good, I don't mind capturing one of the many VRE trains shuttling outbound commuters during the evening rush. Sometimes a train, any train, will do for what you need- and this was certainly one of those cases.
Musamman Burj or the Octagonal Tower is believed to have been built by Shah Jehan as the palace of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal and it was here that he spent his last days since his son Aurungzeb imprisoned him till his death along with his favorite daughter Jahanara Begum. It is situated at the location where the main wall of the fort takes a turn towards the east. It is said that at first a small marble palace built by Akbar was situated at this site, which was later demolished by Jehangir to erect new buildings. Shah Jehan in his turn chose this site to erect the multi-storied marble tower inlaid with precious stones for Mumtaz Mahal. It was built between 1631-40 and offers exotic views of the famous Taj.
Since I thought about the title for this pic I can't stop listening to Ella Fitzgerald's "Misty" in my mind...
What a great song, even though there is nothing to do with these image. hahaha =D
Since last summer the two APS E483s have been rented to Trenitalia Cargo, now Mercitalia.
Here they are pulling an heavy steel train from Genoa to Novi Ligure on the old Giovi pass line near Meretta (6/9/16)
Ever since my husband rescued one of these, from the middle of the road and stunned, I have been fascinated by them. Quite the feisty little bird, they're referred to as the "butcher bird" because of their behavior of attacking their prey and then caching it on a nearby barbed-wire or some other type of chain-linked fence for later consumption. They're quite beautiful too with that black mask, hooked bill, white belly and throat, gray upper parts, black wings, and white-edged black tail. They hunt from a perch and dive down for their prey. We get the loggerhead shrike, as well as the northern shrikes here in my part of Colorado.
Happy Tuesday!

Since we have some beautiful Spring weather, I thought I would post a few Spring flowers. Here's a white Poppy seen recently at the Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens.

Since I need some winter images for a proper photo calendar i looked for something worth capturing during those days when we had at least a little bit of snow.
Actually the amount of snow we had wasn’t even enough to cover the grass on this hill, so I cloned out hundreds of grass blades, which was great fun.
Not.
If you are into counting, you are welcome to check my assertion based on the original image:

Since Leo had completely lost interest in being a model, I decided to lure him into a photo shoot by bringing a bunch of catnip from my garden. It worked, but it's getting harder and harder to get him to pose for me :)
Since living in Las Vegas over the last 15 years, I’ve crossed paths with many of the classic entertainers 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s that call Las Vegas home. I remember watching Mr. Barbutti on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson several times. Always great to see him! He’s still a funny and very approachable person.
Since my Perseids 2025 session was a total failure, I attach an image from the Perseids 2023 session (the most successful for me). This is a single frame from a series of 100 that I took on the "peak" night of the Perseids 2023, a frame that I find interesting because of the 2 satellites intersected by a meteor near Andromeda galaxy.
Equipment used: Skywatcher Star Adventure GTI, Nikon D610 (astro-modified) and Rokinon 135mm.
Settings: F2.8, ISO 1000, 45 sec.
I still have the raw file :)
Since there wasn't anything of interest going on in the Fernhill wetlands, we went down the highway to the the Buffalo Farm... One of these days they are going to be on my side of the pasture... LOL!!!
If you like my work and wanna show it by inviting me to one of your groups, you are very welcome to do that, but please do not leave any graphic logos! I'll delete them.

Since 1596 York Castle has been known as 'Clifford's Tower possibly because the body of Rodger De Clifford was hung in chains from the tower in 1322.after the Royal Forces had defeated a band of rebels at Boroughbridge.
Since this might be my last post of 2018... I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all my Flickr friends and followers for all your support this year!
This has been quite a crazy year for me... one of the most hectic years of my life! But it's also been a very decisive year... and I've made a number of radical decisions which have changed (and improved) my life considerably. I haven't felt stressed or angry with anyone in at least 2 months now... and that can only ever be a good thing! I have a challenging new project and a clear plan for next year... and so far... everything is fitting into place perfectly! I can't remember when last I've been so excited to start a new year!
So here's wishing you all a very enjoyable last few days of the year... and a very prosperous and happy 2019!
Cheers everyone.

I love old hand blown glass ornaments. This little mushroom is one of my favorites. The count down to Christmas continues, and since I finished decorating our cabin today - the cookie baking will begin tomorrow.
Since some people (from the USA) didn't think they had Queen Anne's Lace where they live, I thought I should put up a photo of what it looks like when it is open, because I am pretty sure everybody in North America has this flower, unless it is too high up in the mountains or too desert-like.
So here are some Queen Anne's Lace growing through a fence... a somewhat unusual shot because usually this flower blankets the fields at waist height. So it is unusual to see one or two plants by themselves. (The lawnmower decided that....)
It was evening, and the late light was just barely hitting them!
Since today is #tbt here is one from my beginner years that my brother asked about last night. I found it in a data card and reprocessed it to order a metal print for him. I still love this shot and recall the morning I took it, as I was the only one at the lake and had the area to myself. What a gift. #ThrowbackThursday

Since the weather was so nice today, I decided to take a walk to the back of the tree nursery I currently live on. I was half way to the back and got a low battery warning on my camera! The warm weather made me a little lazy so I took my small camera. On the way back to my house I got off a couple of more shots and this is one of them. I was amazed at the quality for such a small camera - especially at noon with bright sunlight - which I usually never take photos at this time of day.
There are at least 5 or more different types of trees in this photo - the very large Walnut tree on the right is just starting to get leaves. L A R G E
Since I could not decide whether I should add a black and white photo or color I am uploading both. Those plants are really fascinating
Since I have no bird that is redder than this, the series ends here

A few days ago, the above art work appeared overnight on an outside wall of Reading Prison which has stood empty since it closed at the end of 2013. There was immediate speculation it was the work of the street artist Banksy whose identity has never been confirmed despite the fact his numerous works have appeared at various locations over a long period of years.
The paintings often form a social message and can be controversial. Reading Prison is very much a controversial place – it is owned by the Ministry of Justice who have been trying to dispose of it for the last 7 years. For them one of the problems is the property is designated a grade II listed building which means it cannot be demolished or substantially altered without prior consent from the Local Authority – Reading Borough Council. There have been calls for it to be used as a public amenity such as a theatre or arts facility and a deal to redevelop it has fallen through so in effect there has been little or no progress for 7 years.
Yesterday Banksy confirmed it was his art work although he did not shed any light on who the figure was supposed to be. Much of the local view is that it is a representation of Oscar Wilde, the Victorian actor, writer and poet who was incarcerated there from 1895 to 1897 – probably the prisons main claim to fame.
It is questionable as to whether the painting helps or hinders the current deadlock although it has provided some amusement for local residents in what is otherwise a depressing time!

Most important of all, continue to keep safe during these uncertain times!

Since the beginning of the year . . . I have been "challenging" myself to do just ONE shot for each image.
Taking longer to set it up and longer to choose the right windlight and play with the lighting tools . . . and then just one shot!
It has certainly been a challenge . . . but I think I am learning a lot.
Since a few months ago, both FXE and FSRR landed in an extreme power shortage due to a massive increase in traffic, the solution on FSRR's side was to start using their DC locomotives on road train, both 6 and 4 axle Dash 7's, and that for sure has been a massive treat to us!
Here, a trio of 6 axle are on notch 8 as they pull an empty Autorack train from Veracruz ports to Mexico City as they pass the north end of the Acultzingo siding, smoking like god intended.

It has been several years since I saw a female Common Blue, the last time it did not open its wings. Well pleased with this shot.

Since I don't have acces to my comp. Right now, all I can do is upload and edit pics taken with my iPhone.. ;-(.
I was born in far away in the West but since birth I have stared over the horizon feeling bonded to something that is a part of me and who I am from a time long ago. A beautiful ancient pure land as old as humanity itself from bustling colorful and cultural cities to the high mountains that abound this land. The connection is so strong in fact that I feel a part of me is missing like having family but never seeing them for your whole life ofcorse I live with family in Palm Springs who I love very much today however there is a mystery. The thing that defies logic is how could this be? Long ago shortly after I was born the so called "alien abduction switch" occurred. "The switch" is something that the family jokes about all the time because the event was so unheard of to be chilling. At about 6 months old I was locked in a crib in an upstairs 2nd floor bedroom secured by a locked window with an alarmed screen. It was afternoon naptime and according to my parents I had gone silent for over an hour because I was usually a pretty noisy baby. When they came up I had disappeared from my crib but they then noticed the window had been opened. Over 12 feet below they spotted me on the concrete slab playing with the grass growing through the cracks. Keep in mind, I am 6 months old in which I had managed to climb out of an elevated crib, figure out how to unlock and disarm the screen and window and jump out 12 feet onto concrete without a single scratch. A complete mystery but from that day on dreams of other places and times from the cosmos took hold searching for something in a place where I felt out of place.
My feelings and emotions about things are tied to a distant land I had never been to for most of my life and then in recent years I feel like someone is feeling the sameway towards me from that distant land. Separated but drawn together. My life is dynamic full of tremendous emotion. So much joy but yet feeling like I am missing something. One half of being whole and she is out there somewhere feeling the sameway. Will it ever be as you can see here? Time will only tell so I throw this bottle out into the sea of cyberspace and hope on that distant shore where ever she may happen to be she may pick the bottle up and read the message. I meanwhile go into periodic spells of tears and sadness only hoping she will respond..............
