We haven't been to Dauset Trails Nature Center since the pandemic over 2 years now. So, since things are opening up we decided it was time for a short trip, and a much needed change of scenery!

Our first stop was the Lotus Pond at the edge of the woods, and just a short walk from the parking lot. The gazebo is new but that bench to the right is much closer and offers a better view. And, what a view, too. The pond with all the lotus blooming seemed bigger and better than ever

*** It was a big ordeal, waking up early in order to beat the heat, packing iced water, bug spray, hats to block the sun, and of course our cameras! Still not sure what was worse - the heat or the waking up early part?!

Vue à partir du Mont National

(Bas-Rhin - Alsace - France)

This morning we decided to through out the sofa, and burn it. We have been sleeping there since we moved in, but we are sure that something else also live in it. We hear how it prazzles, and something runs around in it..... not to mention all the residents we can´t see.......

We also cleaned up the mess, and the house feels a lot nicer to spend time in. We scrubbed the floors and walls, and cleaned all the windows. It was a hard job (it was really dirty), and we sat on the porch quite a while afterwards....... exhausted but happy. Stella started to talk about a bathroom....... well, I wish we had one. Probably that has to be priority one from now, but I need to find that leak first.

Another thing we discussed, was the hidden key we found hanging in the fireplace. Why was it hidden...... and why in the fireplace ? What was it for a key...... and where is the right lock for it ? Lots of questions, but no answers.

Tomorrow my brother come for a quick visit. Wonder what he thinks of this place......... this place which are going to be the crown of Stella´s and mine love story.

As we said : - " Don´t give it up. Let´s fight for hope and glory ! "

Good night...... sleep tight !

SPNC Year 3 #9

Mothering Sunday is always during lent here, on the 4th Sunday, and it has been celebrated since the early church.

Centuries ago it was considered important for people to return to their home or 'mother' church once a year, which inevitably became an occasion for family reunions. It was this that led to the tradition of children, particularly those working as domestic servants or apprentices away from home, being given the day off to visit and take gifts to their mothers. Mothering Sunday was also known as Refreshment Sunday, because the fasting rules for Lent were relaxed on that day.

Since I consider myself somewhat of an expert on Snowy Egrets and Utqiaġvik is known for its population of Snowy Owls, I felt quite confident there would be opportunity during my recent visit to the Arctic to profit from such synergy. But apparently Snowy Egrets and Snowy Owls don't share as much in common as I had anticipated. Of the two birds I spotted, the closest I got was this heavily cropped, distant view while kneeling under a low-hung pipeline.

Since today is #tbt here is one from my beginner years that my brother asked about last night. I found it in a data card and reprocessed it to order a metal print for him. I still love this shot and recall the morning I took it, as I was the only one at the lake and had the area to myself. What a gift. #ThrowbackThursday

Since the weather was so nice today, I decided to take a walk to the back of the tree nursery I currently live on. I was half way to the back and got a low battery warning on my camera! The warm weather made me a little lazy so I took my small camera. On the way back to my house I got off a couple of more shots and this is one of them. I was amazed at the quality for such a small camera - especially at noon with bright sunlight - which I usually never take photos at this time of day.

There are at least 5 or more different types of trees in this photo - the very large Walnut tree on the right is just starting to get leaves. L A R G E

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on here so I hope you’re all doing well! Haven’t really been doing much with the camera lately as this time of year really doesn’t appeal to me that much. Also, I’ve recently invested in a drone, so I’ve been learning the whole video side of things.

Anyways, last night I headed out to an old favourite location of mine in the Yorkshire Dales called Twistleton Scar. For anyone that isn’t familiar, its a great little spot covered in limestone rocks; perfect for landscape photography! It’s a quiet spot too which comes as an added bonus!

The forecast was looking pretty promising so I decided to try a shot I’ve taken before but want to improve slightly. When I arrived on location, I had a bit of a gut feeling to go off and find something new and thankfully, I followed that instinct. Had to wander around for a while to find something that worked but I came across this rather interesting looking tree that worked well with another tree in the background. After tweaking myself and my tripod into some awkward positions to get the composition right, it was just a matter of praying and waiting for the light to make an appearance. After about half an hour, the sun managed to come out through a small gap on the horizon which completely changed the landscape into something you’d imagine to see in a dream!

I’ve certainly missed the feeling you get when everything comes together and you get a shot you’re happy with! Hopefully, you’ll be seeing more frequent posts from me over the next few weeks/months!

Since the beginning of the year . . . I have been "challenging" myself to do just ONE shot for each image.

Taking longer to set it up and longer to choose the right windlight and play with the lighting tools . . . and then just one shot!

It has certainly been a challenge . . . but I think I am learning a lot.

Since I can't go to the beach right now, I thought I'd share some of my photo art. This one was taken back in May. of 2016. I re-edited the shot this morning using Silver Efex Pro 2 and Lightroom.

Since a few months ago, both FXE and FSRR landed in an extreme power shortage due to a massive increase in traffic, the solution on FSRR's side was to start using their DC locomotives on road train, both 6 and 4 axle Dash 7's, and that for sure has been a massive treat to us!

Here, a trio of 6 axle are on notch 8 as they pull an empty Autorack train from Veracruz ports to Mexico City as they pass the north end of the Acultzingo siding, smoking like god intended.

Frigorífico Anglo del Uruguay

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frigorífico Anglo del Uruguay was a meatpacking plant located at Fray Bentos, Uruguay, on the Uruguay River bank.

In 1924, the Vestey group purchases the old installations of Liebig Extract of Meat Company and the production goes on under a new name.

During its peak period, El Anglo had 5,000 workers whose ranks included English, Belgians, Russians, Spanish and Italians. It finally closed in 1979 after Europe and the United States had cut back their purchases from Latin America. Small brick houses with thick walls running along the river's edge in Fray Bentos form the "Barrio Anglo," a city-within-a-city where meatpacking workers lived that featured a hospital, a school, a social club and a football squad.[1]

Ever since I saw some of maxxsmart pictures of the Golden Gate bridge, I've wanted to view this scene for myself. Last December, I ran into rootswalker and markarlilly while shooting the bay bridge. I soon learned that they were both obsessed with capturing the Golden Gate bridge with low fog. I asked them to let me know of any possible low fog events in the bay area in the future. Because of my day job, It would be possible for me to get there for sunrise if they let me know by early evening the day before. Well Matt messaged me early Thursday afternoon and let me know that Friday morning could see some low fog... I looked at the forcasts, saw the high pressure building off of the coast, found a car rental for $20 an decided to take the chance. Watching the fog move in and cover the bay was probably one of the coolest natural phenomenons I've seen.. Also got to meet up with my fellow long time flickr contact Jeff Swanson -- www.interfacingnature.com ... Thanks Matt for the heads up!

I was born in far away in the West but since birth I have stared over the horizon feeling bonded to something that is a part of me and who I am from a time long ago. A beautiful ancient pure land as old as humanity itself from bustling colorful and cultural cities to the high mountains that abound this land. The connection is so strong in fact that I feel a part of me is missing like having family but never seeing them for your whole life ofcorse I live with family in Palm Springs who I love very much today however there is a mystery. The thing that defies logic is how could this be? Long ago shortly after I was born the so called "alien abduction switch" occurred. "The switch" is something that the family jokes about all the time because the event was so unheard of to be chilling. At about 6 months old I was locked in a crib in an upstairs 2nd floor bedroom secured by a locked window with an alarmed screen. It was afternoon naptime and according to my parents I had gone silent for over an hour because I was usually a pretty noisy baby. When they came up I had disappeared from my crib but they then noticed the window had been opened. Over 12 feet below they spotted me on the concrete slab playing with the grass growing through the cracks. Keep in mind, I am 6 months old in which I had managed to climb out of an elevated crib, figure out how to unlock and disarm the screen and window and jump out 12 feet onto concrete without a single scratch. A complete mystery but from that day on dreams of other places and times from the cosmos took hold searching for something in a place where I felt out of place.

My feelings and emotions about things are tied to a distant land I had never been to for most of my life and then in recent years I feel like someone is feeling the sameway towards me from that distant land. Separated but drawn together. My life is dynamic full of tremendous emotion. So much joy but yet feeling like I am missing something. One half of being whole and she is out there somewhere feeling the sameway. Will it ever be as you can see here? Time will only tell so I throw this bottle out into the sea of cyberspace and hope on that distant shore where ever she may happen to be she may pick the bottle up and read the message. I meanwhile go into periodic spells of tears and sadness only hoping she will respond..............

Happy Weekend everybody - despite the Corona Crisis!

But we do need to see the beauty around us to at least forget for a moment what's going on in the whole world!

No, I do not close my eyes and face difficulties as well - as I'm surrounded by lots of people that are suffering - but we do need to see also the positive that God grants us in this hard time - filled with hardships and sadness, with sorrows and problems - all over the world!

Blessings of health and strength, of hope and love, of security and care!

(We planted 4 young trees "ornamental cherries" less than half a year ago. I never thought that they would bloom this year - they are still so young and so small. But these beautiful blossoms - the little trees have been blooming since Easter. So beautiful! Right?)

Timex has exceeded all of my expectations with this contemporary release! This is one of the highest quality pieces in this price range and a little above. 42mm stainless steel case with circular brushing on top of the lugs and a polished stepped bezel. Crisp chamfered edge next to horizontal brushing on the side of the case and a signed crown. The panda dial is light grey with quality print, indiglo and a black seconds sub dail is above the 6. Supple 20mm black leather strap with grey stitching and a signed buckle. No traditional loud ticking quartz movement here. $54 well spent.

It has been nearly a year since my last visit down to Kirby Cove for sunrise. Not being able to sleep I opted to get up early and head towards the headlands. When I left low fog was gracing the Golden Gate Bridge with both towers sticking above the fog. I was keeping my fingers crossed to finally capture that elusive low fog with burning sky sunrise scene. To my dismay the fog decided to retreat and disappear minutes after my departure.

Despite the receding of fog the leading edge of a cloud front made landfall and was primed to explode in burning colors. I initially started at Battery Spencer and was shocked to see the parking lot completely packed by 6am. With the fog sitting just off the coast I was worried it would make another inland push and hence I started off at the classical Battery Spencer viewpoint.

Again I was surprised to see so many photographers setup. There must have been >50 photographers all lined up waiting for sunrise. I snapped off a few frames but I just couldn’t quite sit still having to jostle for space. As blue hour was reaching its peak, Alan and I decided at the last minute to make a bolt for Kirby Cove. Not wanting to miss any of the sky burn we literally sprinted down the trail. Photo backpacks and rain boots are not the ideal combo for running but we made do and miraculously made it all the way down in 10 minutes.

Down at Kirby Cove, there was not a single other photographer as Alan and I had the entire beach to ourselves. Better yet, the “treasure chest” lay at the center of the beach and was easily engulfed by the rising tides. A few minutes later the sky began burning. Although the burn never reached full potential the colors and reflected light was still a gem to witness.

Since it’s (was) your birthday, my dear Linda, here’s the mush pack. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this friendship and the safe space you’ve offered me to be myself. Your support and love means the world to me. You’re hardworking, kind, thoughtful, you wear your heart on your sleeve… I could go on really. But I’ll conclude with yet another thanks for you being you, always and unapologetically. Love ya hun ♥️

Since 1835 the oldest standing lighthouse in Newfoundland and Labrador has been welcoming the first morning rays of sunshine to hit North America. This National Historic Site was home to multi generations of lighthouse keepers. “The human history of Cape Spear Lighthouse is the story of the Cantwells. For over 150 years, generations of this famous family of lightkeepers resided at Cape Spear and worked tirelessly to maintain a light so vital to mariners.”

Since this will probably be my last post of 2012 I have written a blog looking back on the year. I hope you check it out as I have reflected on my path as a photographer but also created a top 10 (very hard to do!) of the photos from my Flickr friends that have inspired me this year.

Looking forward to seeing the creativity from everyone in 2013!

Since I’m low on content, I’ll be doing a year review. Here’s CN G889 at Trimble, TN on 1/26/23.

Seems like its been forever since I uploaded anything. We have been caught up in the worst heat wave and drought since 1895 here in Oklahoma. The average daytime temp for the month of July in Okla. was well over 100 degrees, the hottest ever. Shot this last November just after a light freezing rain, wouldn't that feel good about now. Its better on black if you have the time. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Now its years since your body went flat

and even memories of that

are all THICK and dull,

all gravel and glass

But who needs them now--- displaced they're easily more safe --the worst of it now:

I can't remember your face

Return... Return...

For a while

with the vertigo cured

we were alive -- we were pure

The void took the shape

of all that you were

but years take their toll, and things get bent into shape...

Antiseptic and tired

I can't remember your face

Return... Return...

You were supposed to grow old.

Reckless, unfrightened, and old, you were supposed to grow old

You were supposed to return...

The Carreau Wendel Museum is the museum of the Wendel-Vuillemin coal pit, in Petite-Rosselle on the Saarland, Lorraine border. Though often in Germany, since 1945 it has been in Moselle department France.

The museum is an Anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

The Wendel 1 pit was closed in 1989, Wendel 2 in 1992 and Wendel 3 in 2001. The first piece of coal was mined in Petite-Rosselle in June 1856, at the Saint-Charles pit. These pits are in France but surrounded on three sides by the national border with Germany. Several pits were dug between 1862 and 1889: Wendel 1, Wendel 2, Vuillemin 1 and Vuillemin 2. Emile Vuillemin was the consulting engineer for Charles de Wendel and Georges Hainguerlot's company- Compagnie Anonyme des Mines de Stiring. The coal produced was primarily used to fire the Wendel steelworks. The company became - Les Petits-fils de François de Wendel et Cie in 1889.

After the Second World War, the government required the industry to triple the Lorraine coal production within ten years. In the 1946 nationalising, the Wendel assets were assigned to public company Houillères du bassin de Lorraine. The Wendel 3 pit was dug in 1952, and in 1958 was equipped with the new wash house 3. The Wendel 1 and 2 pits were modernised and equipped with new headframes. After 1960, the coal recession hit: the company modernised wash house 1-2 in 1962 by creating a new module on top of the former wash house, adapted to the existing equipment. Operations and investment continued up until 1986 when central activities ceased. Some infrastructure continued to be used up until 1989 serving other pits in the Wendel franchise.

The museum is presented in several section. The simple tour shows the life of the miner and the hazardous working conditions. There is then an opportunity to take a guide tour down the workings seeing the machinery current when the last deep mine in France closed in 2004. There is an AM 100 heading machine, G210 electro-hydraulic loader, Electra 2000 shearer and ANF winning machine, roof supports etc.

No MOT since August 2010. This has been static street furniture ever since.

Since i have been shooting weddings i have less time to go out to shoot and process landscapes. I am waiting for the winter when there are less weddings and more of dramatic weather conditions to return to my sunrise shooting sessions. However today it felt good to be there, on the water, shooting and being sprayed all over by the rough waves.
