Not long after sunset bright right red Aurora became quickly visible. Soon the sky was filled with color. Really incredible display.

anyways, i just got my new lens in the mail today. Its a rokinon 8mm fisheye. I orginally got it for shooting skateboarding, but i think it will prove most versatile.

i know this idea has been done before, but i wanted to try it out because of my new lens
Wildlife is pretty quiet these days in the heat of summer, but my hollyhocks are happy! And I have a new lens to play with, a Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 fisheye. Wow, is this fun! My first impression: it's surprisingly sharp for a relatively cheap lens. I am impressed. Manual focus only, and I got the newer version, with the auto-aperture chip.
It's a DX lens, but my Nikon D810 can accommodate these; all I had to do was switch to DX mode in the menu. It produces a smaller file than I get from shooting full frame, of course, but that isn't a problem, as the D810 has pixels to spare. I am looking forward to seeing what it can do with a starry sky - the new moon, when the sky is darkest, will be on July 23rd, and several nights both before and after should be good.

Milky way in transit overhead in a moment of peaceful quiet beauty at 6500ft elevation in the High Sierra Nevada Mountains. Towering pines seem to lean toward the cosmic light as the milky way resembles the shape of the pines like a ghost of ancient trees past. On this lone stretch of highway, with the sounds of howling coyotes in the distance, my camera and i witness the spirit of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

This is one of my favorite pictures that I've taken for a while. It's not really the best shot ever, but I really like it. Gary Feng (slickooz) and I were walking in NYC, and I saw a window with a bunch of lights around it. So, we had a little shoot haha. Using a fisheye for portraits is a lot of fun. Stay tuned for more!

This is about 3 hours worth of exposures on the Cygnus Loop, aka Veil Nebula from Bortle 3 skies. Clearly was not enough integration to expose the extremely dim parts of the complex, but the beautiful pink and blue colors show wonderfully. This is an incredibly dense starfield and I now understand why many opt for star reduction techniques in editing to bring out nebulous contrast more. However, this is not processes that way. Natural colors and no intentional star reduction.
Taken on a canon rebel t3i and Rokinon 135mm lens at F/2.8. Fluctuating temperatures throughout the night prompted me to stop down the lens a bit so I would not have to worry about temperature dependent focus adjustment.
