1977 Jaguar XJ 4.2C auto.
Last taxed in May 2009 and last MoT test expired in June 2009. H&H classic car auction, Buxton -
"Chassis Number: 2J-2575BW
Engine Number: 5617
Finished in Green Sand with Olive leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, paintwork, wheels / tyres) or "very good" (engine, automatic transmission) condition. Though, he considers that the bodywork "needs attention". Entering the current (third) ownership in 1984, 'RNB 747R' is since understood to have been primarily worked on by Bob Bates of Birkenhead (a contributor to the JDC and JEC magazines). Stated to have covered some 104,000 miles from new, the coupe was apparently treated to "a Jaguar replacement engine at 62,000 miles". As well as "a gearbox and back axle overhaul", attention is said to have been paid to its "petrol tank, suspension, brakes and radiator at Birkenhead around 1993". The subject of a bodywork refurbishment some six years later, 'RNB 747R' benefited from "a new vinyl roof, chrome and headlining" at the same time. However, we are informed that corrosion has resurfaced "around the top of the headlights and on the lower quarter panels". Showing signs of wear to the driver's side and suffering from a loose headlining (though, a replacement hard backing accompanies the car), the coupe rides on "good Pirelli tyres" and boasts "a manual choke for better fuel consumption" as well as "an immobilizer". Summed up as "an excellent runner that is used daily", this elegant Big Cat is offered for sale with history file, MOT certificate valid until May 2008 and road tax valid until April 2008."
Sold for £2000.

One of the mighty stone arches of the Dean Bridge, the southern side in shadow, the northern side catching the late afternoon light. Walking under it along the Water of Leith is quite an experience - it's a massive structure, the arches rising 106 feet above the water. It's impressive standing under that much perfectly engineered stonework towering above you. The great Thomas Telford completed it in 1831 at the very end of his career.

This was taken during the flooding in Abingdon in 1980 & shows the Old Gaol & part of the County Hall in the distance, scanned from my original 35mm slide.
It's rather challenging shooting your best friend but I think it came out really nice.
