Corny Point Lighthouse, Yorke Peninsula

Santa Cruz Mountains, California

A rising coastal fog has crept onshore, standing high above the rolling green hills near the summit of the Santa Cruz mountains. On the upper right ridge line is the small silhouette of a deer who just happened along.

An angel (from the Greek ἄγγελος - aggelos) is a supernatural being or spirit, usually humanoid in form, found in various religions and mythologies.

Hvitserkur

Iceland

This is another image from our 2010 trip which was by far our longest and most memorable trip we have done (3 months on the road). The light didn't blaze at Hvitserkur but the subtleties probably resulted in more interesting shots to complement the dark rock 'troll'.

We are looking forward to a return to Iceland this winter and perhaps we'll see if we can access this location :)

Even in one of the most beautiful parts of the Douro Valley the extra height and options that the drone affords can make some amazing photography possible.

I had come here opportunistically hoping to photograph IR876 the 17:14 from Poccinho on the second of the viaducts at Ribadourbo, by Pala station. However, with the seemingly endemic late running on this railway the train went from 8 minutes late, to 20, to 30 and eventually showed up around 45 minutes behind schedule. By this time the light had long gone from my chosen spot, but the drone was (only just) still able to catch the evening light on the first of the viaducts.

As ever, I had hoped for an orange 1400, but looking back 1455 seems to compliment the softer colours of the evening light, and it certainly made a lovely sound through the peaceful valley- I'm not even too offended by the blue coach, painted in the heritage scheme to mark the final Schindler vehicle to be reinstated from the CP workshop at Guifões.

This isn't low cloud as such but the effects of a low sun on a frost covered hillside. I would have loved to have had stronger sunlight to bring out the greens but it was not to be.

Night shot taken from the summit of mount Chaberton (3,131 m) on October 20th, 2011.

At the horizon you can see the halo generated by the moon before rising.

A huge bank of clouds and mist was hiding the world below...

Two cities are most visible, respectively on the right: Sestriere (2.035 m), the main venue during the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, and Cesana (1.040 m) that shines like a diamond necklace :-)

On top of the mountain between the two cities is visible a tiny dot of light, it's the cable car station Fraiteve (2.702 m).

This is essentially a landscape of clouds and stars, though the constellations begin to be less visible due to the coming moon... however in the night sky can still be clearly distinguished a few constellations: Auriga, Perseus, Aries, Cetus, Pleiades, and, last but not least, planet Jupiter.

After a long period of rainy weather the Mohawk River has risen and partially engulfed a small park in downtown Schenectady, New York.

Jupiter rising over Mercury Passage and Maria Island. Johnsons Point at the right and Perpendicular Mountain on Maria at the left. Saturn must be buried in the cloud...

Not the sharpest of frames but it was another lens tester with a Contax G 90/2.8 Sonnar. Seems like a very handy astro lens if the tracker is dialled in properly and maybe the lens stopped down a little.

Two frame blend but both at 25 secs - one for the lower section then the tracker engaged for the heavens.

Interesting lens flare cast by the planet - not sure why that is. Small light at the left is a navigation marker.

The Rising

I see you Mary in the garden

In the garden of a thousand sighs

There's holy pictures of our children

Dancin' in a sky filled with light

May I feel your arms around me

May I feel your blood mix with mine

A dream of life comes to me

Like a catfish dancin' on the end of my line

Sky of blackness and sorrow (a dream of life)

Sky of love, sky of tears (a dream of life)

Sky of glory and sadness (a dream of life)

Sky of mercy, sky of fear (a dream of life)

Sky of memory and shadow (a dream of life)

Your burnin' wind fills my arms tonight

Sky of longing and emptiness (a dream of life)

Sky of fullness, sky of blessed life

Come on up for the rising

Come on up, lay your hands in mine

Come on up for the rising

Come on up for the rising tonight

Eastbound Q241 knocks down the C&O era intermediates at Rising Sun with a YN3B SD70MAC on the point. We chased them from Walbridge here and I finally ended up getting a shot I hadn't gotten before with this bridge.

I got caught in a storm

And carried away

I got turned, turned around

I got caught in a storm

That's what happened to me

So I didn't call

And you didn't see me for a while

I was rising up

Hitting the ground

And breaking and breaking

I was caught in a storm

Things were flying around

And doors were slamming

And windows were breaking

And I couldn't hear what you were saying

I couldn't hear what you were saying

I couldn't hear what you were saying

I was rising up

Hitting the ground

And breaking and breaking

Rising up

Lhasa De Sela

After the drag of driving home from work in the Midlands with the heavy traffic on a Friday evening it was great to get out with the camera to capture the sunset at my local harbour at Langstone, Hayling Island.

The tide was very low when I arrived but the water soon started to flow in as you can see in the bottom right of the image, interesting colours in the sky reflecting on the partially calm water - it was joy to be outside and enjoy the beauty of last of the days light!

Early morning mists burning away over Haweswater.

Scottsdale's Reflection Rising is designed by Patrick Shearn. Shearn's worldwide installations compel viewers to slow down and follow the undulating movement of the artwork, which appears to hand in thin air.

Stretching for three football fields along the Scottsdale Waterfront, “Reflection Rising” is the latest large-scale project commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art. Made of thousands of nylon streamers designed to take the air like a kite.

From the surrounding walkways, views of the rippling sculpture will emerge in the reflective surface of the canal, evoking the colors of the sunset. At the Soleri Bridge Plaza, the piece will rise and fall in graceful waves, casting dappled shade and sunlight on those gathered below. The custom-designed work was installed Nov. 13 and will soar above the waterfront, illuminating much of the Arizona Canal through March 2018.
