A text study session, discussing Islamic and Jewish sources on the theme of 'repentance'.
The 'Healing Abraham's Family' journey to Faradis, Zichron Yaakov and Haifa, September 14, 2014. 40 East Jerusalem Palestinians and 40 Israeli Jews and Arabs joined for a day of 'being human' - touring, eating, praying - together. In the aftermath of the recent war, and ongoing tensions in Jerusalem, this day inspired us and all we met along the way, not to give into the fear and separation.
Hosted by the Abrahamic Reunion.

After they unanimously approved a statement calling Lutherans to ask Mennonites for forgiveness for past persecutions, delegates to the Eleventh Assembly of Lutheran World Federation (LWF) attended a special "Service of Repentance" in Stuttgart's Old Reithalle. Among the symbols on the altar were olive branches, a pine foot-washing tub, and an image of the celebrated Anabapist martyr Dirk Willems. Genesis 1:1-5
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

The Repentance of Nineveh’s King Wins Jehovah God’s Commendation
When the king of Nineveh heard this news, he arose from his throne, took off his robe, dressed himself in sackcloth and sat in ashes. He then proclaimed that no one in the city would be allowed to taste anything, and that no livestock, lambs and oxen would graze or drink water. Man and livestock alike were to don sackcloth; the people would earnestly entreat God. The king also proclaimed that every one of them would turn away from their evil ways and forsake the violence in their hands. Judging from this series of acts, the king of Nineveh demonstrated his heartfelt repentance. The series of actions he took—arising from his throne, casting off his king’s robe, wearing sackcloth and sitting in ashes—tells people that the king of Nineveh laid aside his royal status and wore sackcloth alongside the common people. This is to say that the king of Nineveh did not occupy his royal post to continue his evil way or the violence in his hands after hearing the announcement from Jehovah God; rather, he laid aside the authority he held and repented before Jehovah God. At this moment the king of Nineveh was not repenting as a king; he had come before God to confess and repent his sins as an ordinary subject of God. Moreover, he also told the entire city to confess and repent their sins before Jehovah God in the same manner as him; additionally, he had a specific plan for how to do so, as seen in Scripture: “Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: … and cry mightily to God: yes, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.” As the city’s ruler, the king of Nineveh possessed supreme status and power and could do anything he wished to. When faced with Jehovah God’s announcement, he could have ignored the matter or simply repented and confessed his sins alone; as for whether or not the people in the city chose to repent, he could have completely ignored the matter. However, the king of Nineveh did not do this at all. Not only did he arise from his throne, wear sackcloth and ashes and confess and repent his sins before Jehovah God, he also ordered all people and livestock within the city to do the same. He even ordered the people to “cry mightily to God.” Through this series of actions, the king of Nineveh truly accomplished that which a ruler should; his series of actions is one that was difficult for any king in human history to achieve, and also one that none achieved. These actions can be called unprecedented undertakings in human history; they are worthy of being both commemorated and imitated by mankind. Since the dawn of man, every king had led his subjects to resist and oppose God. No one had ever led his subjects to entreat God to seek redemption for their wickedness, receive Jehovah God’s pardon and avoid imminent punishment. The king of Nineveh, however, was able to lead his subjects to turn to God, leave their respective evil ways and abandon the violence in their hands. Furthermore, he was also able to put aside his throne, and in return, Jehovah God turned and repented and retracted His wrath, allowing the people of the city to survive and keeping them from destruction. The king’s actions can only be called a rare miracle in human history; they can even be called a model of a corrupt humanity confessing and repenting their sins before God.

Having sold my soul to the digital camera, I've been looking back through some binders of negatives as a form of repentance. I'm going to start shooting some more film. I don't think I've shot a whole role in more then a 18 months. During which time I've probably shot 30,000 digital photos, the vast majority of which were relative junk.
I've got a ton of photos from trip to London five years ago that I barely printed and never scanned. I've got a set of negatives of the Elgin Marbles from the British Museum that are horribly thin, almost transparent, but I was able to pull something out of the scan.
Hasselblad 500cmn, 80mm lens, I'm sure at f2.8. Shot on Tri-x 320 and developed in Rodinal.
Last weekend we made a trip down to the Pudu Prison in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The 115 year old prison is to be demolished to make way for an urban redevelopment project. This is an attempt to document the untold stories behind the walls that have imprisoned the notorious criminals including the infamous Botak Chin.
Seeing the insides of the famous prison, I could feel a vast array of emotions. The atmosphere within these walls breathes trails of regrets, repentance, anger, sadness, loneliness, love etc.
May the lost souls of Pudu Prison rest in peace. Al Fatihah.

Last week, I got rid of a bunch of old drawings and paintings that were collecting dust in my parent's garage. This is one of the paintings that was laid to rest. It was a self portrait that I did in my junior year of college. I wore my favorite jacket and plaid necktie. The gold chair is one of a matching set at my parent's house. A year or two after I graduated from college, I added the text from Psalm 51 (50) and the following hymns and prayers:
From the dead has Jesus risen, as he himself foretold, bringing us eternal life and his great mercy.
Open the gates of repentance for me, O giver of life, for at early morning my spirit seeks your holy temple though the temple of my body remains defiled. In your compassion, cleanse it with your loving kindness and your mercy. Direct me back to the path of repentance, O Theotokos, for I have defiled my soul with sin and wasted my life in laziness. By your prayers, preserve me from every impurity of soul and body.
Have mercy on me, O God, in your kindness; in you great tenderness, wipe out my sin.
When I ponder the number of my sins, the day of judgment looms before me. But in your compassion do I trust, O Lord, and, like David, I implore you: Have mercy on me, O God, in your kindness.
O Lord, our God, who pardon those who repent! You have shown us how to acknowledge and confess our sins by giving us the example of the prophet, David, whose repentance won him pardon. In your great mercy, have mercy on us as well, master, for we have fallen into a multitude of serious sins, and, in your immense and tender compassion, wash away all our guilt. Through the mercies and compassion and love for us of your only Son, with whom you are bless'd, together with your all-holy, good, and life-giving Spirit: now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Road to Tbilisi. Someone mentioned at the picnic one the greatest Georgian films - Repentance - and there is a greate short dialogue in the film. An old lady walk in the street asks a person if the street leads to a church. After hearing that it doesn't she says: "What's the point of a road if it doesn't lead to a church?!!"
The cornerstone laid on November 4, 1886 evolved into this magnificent Chateauesque structure. Cleveland architect Levi T. Scofield designed the Ohio State Reformatory using a combination of three architectural styles; Victorian Gothic, Richardsonian Romanesque and Queen Anne. This was done to encourage inmates back to a "rebirth" of their spiritual lives. The architecture itself inspired them to turn away from their sinful lifestyle, and toward repentance
The Reformatory doors were opened to its first 150 young offenders in September 1896. After housing over 155,000 men in its lifetime, the doors to the prison closed December 31, 1990.
Today the Ohio State Reformatory Historic Site receives visitors from all over the world. Every year tourists, movie buffs, thrill seekers and paranormal investigators walk through the halls of this majestic structure.

A monument called Zomachi, which symbolizes repentance and reconciliation, is especially poignant. There, every January, descendants of both slaves and slave merchants request forgiveness for those who perpetrated the injustices.
(Mishneh Torah, Hilchos Teshuvah 3:4),The Rambam writes “Although sounding the shofar on Rosh Hashanah is a Torah decree, it is also symbolic, as if to say, ‘Sleepers, awaken from your sleep! Slumberers, shake off your slumber! Scrutinize your deeds, return through repentance and remember your Creator. Those who ignore truth for the foolishness of the moment, who fritter away their years with meaningless folly, useless and ineffective, take a good look at yourselves and improve your ways.’”

The farmstead of Repentancehill has been identified from oblique aerial views taken in April 2010 (RCAHMSAP 2010), situated about 320m SSW of Repentance Tower (NY17SE 2).
The remains of the farmstead are unroofed, though the current OS digital maps show it partially roofed. Visible are the remains of at least five structures or buildings, one of which is the L-shped in plan farmhouse and what may be a farmworkers cottage.
The farmstead is depicted as roofed on the 1st Edition of the OS 6-inch map ( (Dumfriesshire 1862, sheet lvii), which shows four roofed buildings with a well.

מוזיקה ישראלית | 'רצונו היחידי של אלוהים הוא שהאדם יקשיב ויציית'
I
III
