Prayer candles are lit all over the cathedral in St. Augustine. While the candles remain lit, the prayers associated with them go up to God. Knowing that belief, which stems from the Judeo heritage of incense burning to the Lord perpetually, these were more than beautiful containers of light. They represent someone's hopes, love, dreams, failings, brokenness or repentance. I do believe God sees.

Sephirot [or "enumerations", Sephiroth, Sefiroth (סְפִירוֹת), singular: Sephirah, also Sefirah (סְפִירָה "enumeration" in Hebrew)], in the Kabbalah of Judaism, are the ten attributes that God (who is referred to as אור אין סוף Aur Ain Soph, "Limitless Light, Light Without End") created through which he can manifest not only the physical but the metaphysical universe.
Through a careful study of the Tanakh, Jewish sages identified ten Sephirot (ten being the number of divine perfection) known by the following names/characteristics from highest to lowest:
1. Keter - Divine Plan/Creator/infinite light/Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh - I AM THAT I AM (Supreme/Total Consciousness)
2. Chokmah - Divine Reality/revelation/Yesh me-ayin - being from nothingness (Power of Wisdom)
3. Binah - Understanding/repentance/reason (Power of Love)
4. Chesed - Mercy/Grace/Love of (intention to emulate) God (Power of Vision)
5. Gevurah - Judgment/strength/determination (Power of Intention)
6. Tipheret - Symmetry/balance/compassion (Creative Power)
7. Netzach - Contemplation/Initiative/persistence (Power of the Eternal Now)
8. Hod - Surrender/sincerity/steadfastness (Intellectual/Observational Power)
9. Yesod - Foundation/wholly remembering/coherent knowledge
(Power of Manifesting)
10. Malkuth/Lower Crown - Kingdom/physical presence/vision and illusion
(Power of Healing/Accomplishment/Level of Realization of Divine Plan)
A disused factory is keeping the vandals busy. The saying, "the devil finds work for idle hands" seems apt in this instance. It isn't a quote from the Bible, but there's perhaps a grain of truth in it.
We all have a fallen, sinful nature. Whilst I am sure that, at times, the devil is only too willing to capitalise on that fact, we really don't need to blame the devil for inspiring our bad behaviour.
You and I might never have been tempted to break windows and spray-paint the walls of someone else's building, but, when left to our own devices, we often tend towards selfish, indulgent and destructive behaviour.
If we are honest, I think we can admit that we rarely live up to the standards we set for ourselves, nor the standards we expect of others. How much less, then, do we measure up against the standards God has set?
Romans 3:23 says: "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Now, if your property was the target of vandalism, I'm sure you would like to see the perpetrators caught and punished. If there were any justice in the world they would be. Well, God is just. And He has promised a final judgement for all of us:
"It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." (Hebrews 9:27)
On judgement day, none of us will be able to claim that we measure up to God's standards. Let's face it, we don't even live up to our own!
Whether we realise it or not, we are all 'guilty as charged' in God's courtroom and awaiting sentencing. Justice demands punishment, but God has already paid the penalty. He has made it possible for us to have our 'charge sheet' wiped clean:
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
We cannot pay for a life of rebellion towards God, but we can exercise "repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 20:21) in order to accept God's gift of forgiveness.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

The Dickens Fest is an annual event in the Dutch town Deventer. This two-day event has been held on the initiative of local residents and tradespeople since 1991 on the weekend before Christmas in the medieval Bergkwartier, which is part of the old city centre.
Ebenezer Scrooge is the main character in the 1843 novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
Scrooge has become synonymous with "miser" and "misanthrope", especially for English speakers. On the other hand, Scrooge stands for the possibility of repentance.
The inspiration for the name Scrooge comes from a tombstone of a certain Ebenezer Lennox Scroggie on which his profession was written: "meal man" (grain merchant). Dickens read this as "mean man".
COUNTING DOWN: CAN YOU STOP OR REVERSE THE SAND GRAINS?
Time, our most valuable resource, is difficult to comprehend. Physicists can not give an exact description of time. Theory of Special Relativity teaches us that time can be "dilated" for objects traveling close to the speed of light. Hence the twin paradox. In Islamic thought also, time is an entity that subdues to "folding" literally, that is events that normally take years can be squeezed into a very short time slot, the most famous example being the night travel of Prophet Mohammed to Jerusalem and thence to heavens in a matter of minutes. However there is no evidence that time progresses in reverse direction. Time tunnel, travel in time (to the past) are only a science fiction. You can't stop time and reverse it. Time albeit dilatable, foldable (whichever word you prefer) is irreversible. For this very reason reincarnation is refuted by Islam. This being said, Islam gives a chance for repentance, which is a vow that you take and promise that you would never act the wrong way that you already did if you had been given the chance to go back in time. So for us Muslims, repentance is like rewinding the time backwards, undoing what we didn't correctly by promising that we will never ever do it again. This is by Allah as if we have never done it. And this is our travel in time to the moment of erring and sinning.

The Ponte Sant’Angelo was the main access to the St Peter’s Dom until 1911. It served for centuries for pilgrims to cross the Tiber seeking for repentance. Hence, quite fitting to have ten angels holding instruments of the Passion and reminding the passing by pilgrims of Christ’s Martyrdom.
This is an early morning shot as in the evening the bridge is PACKED with people making such an image impossible.

The woman on the left looks up with hope. The symbolism is illustrated by facial expressions, posture, clothing and the position of the hands.
A prayer of repentance by David. When the prophet Nathan confronted him with his sin regarding Bathsheba, David didn't offer any excuse. He immediately confessed and repented. That is the way it should be. Too often, we look for a way out by offering all sorts of excuses and alibis for things we did wrong. When we are wrong, let's admit it , repent and learn from it. That is the only way we can grow. Lord, help me learn from the example of David.
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. 2 Peter 8-10 (NIV)

Repentance Tower sits on the top of the hill known as Trailtrow with a magnificent view to the south all the way to the Solway Firth and England on its other side. It gets its name from the word "Repentance" carved over the entry door. Never lived in, it was built as a watchtower in the mid 16th century by John Maxwell, Lord Herries. There are several stories of how it got its name, most of them involving atonement for bloody deeds. The most credible however is more prosaic. This says that the chapel that formerly stood here (there is still a graveyard adjoining the tower and the low walls to the left of the picture surround a family enclosure) was pulled down for stone used in the building of Hoddam Castle half a mile to the north in a loop of the River Annan. On learning of this the Archbishop of Glasgow constrained Maxwell to atone for this desecration by building the watchtower as a benefit to the local area. There is a stone beacon for a watch-fire to "... be keeped, and never faill burning, so long as the Englishmen remain in Scotland", and there was a bell to be rung "... whenever the Fray is, or that the Watchman seiing the Thieves disobedient come over the Water of Annand or thereabout, and knowes them to be enemies; ..."
Interesting graffiti in Knoxville. Metanoia is translated as repentance in the Bible, but a better translation of it is a change of one's way of thinking about things.
This is the view standing down by the Tiber and looking up to the Ponte Sant’Angelo with St. Peter’s Dom in the background.
The bridge was built originally by the Roman Emperor Hadrian 134 AD. The intention was to give access from the city center to Hadrian’s mausoleum. Latter went through some significant changes over the centuries and is now known as Castel Sant’Angelo.
The statues of the two angels in the foreground are part of the 10 angel statues standing along he Ponte Sant'Angelo. Each angel holds an instrument of the Passion. The facing angel holds the crown of thorns and at the bottom it has the inscription “In aerumna mea dum configitur spina” (The thorn is fastened upon me), while the angel showing its back carries the sudarium.
The Ponte Sant’Angelo was the main access to the St Peter’s Dom until Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II was build in 1911. It served for centuries for pilgrims to cross the Tiber seeking for repentance.

The weird thing about the three rainbow photos I have posted on this site is that they were taken on two separate days, this one being taken on the second day. Amazingly enough, they were taken outside my back sliding glass door just past my backyard above the field in back of our house. These rainbows were miraculous to me in that they appeared nearly in the exact spot two days in a row, having proof of the dates on my handy-dandy little digital camera. Furthermore, it was the closest I have ever been to a rainbow, let alone a double rainbow, in my entire life. As time progressed while I sat and watched them, they kept getting closer to me. When one came closer, its effect on me was even more profound because, while I lived in Oregon--though it rains in the Willamette Valley for what seems like nearly nine months a year--I never saw anything so spectacular as I have here in the rolling hills of the central plains.
The next week, I had a hair appointment with my stylist, and I told her about the strange event. She remembered the rainbow on the 11th of June but not on the 10th. This particular one was from the 10th, both being so large they could have been seen by everyone in the city if outside. I told her the really cool thing was that I previously had been wandering around Flickr and found a picture of a spectacular rainbow like this one that a woman had taken a picture of from her backyard. I thought, at the time, how wonderful for her to have such things happen right in her backyard. I was happy for her but sad for me. Then there I was enjoying the same things, God never being a respecter of persons.
Anyway, my hair-stylist asked me if I had ever tried to chase a rainbow before. Of course I said, no, since I had hardly ever seen one. She said she had...she had actually jumped out of her car when she was younger and tried to chase one down til she became so exhausted that she quit. She found no matter how SHE TRIED to get closer to the rainbow, though chasing after it with all her might, it astonishingly seemed to keep its distance...the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow comes to mind like fool's gold.
As I mused over it, I was reminded that a full bow, not just half, surrounds God's throne, according to Revelation 4:3: "And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne (NIV)." The allegory/metaphor/parable (which the Lord speaks fluently in and so must His followers if they desire to get to know Him which begins upon repentance and accepting Jesus) here is this: The more we chase after Him in and of ourselves/by our own might, ending up with us being steeped in works and legalism, the more He seems to keep his distance because the more glaring our inadequacies become in trying to reach Him on our own. But if we just sit back and enjoy Him and the wonder that is Him, the more He'll draw close to us just as this rainbow did me while I was merely sitting and enjoying it's amazing beauty on my backdoor stoop, worshiping the Lord through it all.
Once the Lord comes close to us after we stop chasing Him, we get to see Him for who He really is in all of His varied colors of goodness, salvation (mercy and grace/water), righteousness (blood), holiness (breath), redemption (circumcision, manna, and love), fire, and wind. As a result of these many parts of the baptism, we are being doubly blessed by His presence always as His luminescent colors echo like a double rainbow through to our innermost being for all eternity. Though some low-flying clouds may from time-to-time obscure our view of Him in this magnificent vibrant light, Jesus still manages to come shining through in all His glory when we rest in His abilities to meet His standards and make Him our Sabbath instead of trying to keep it ourselves.
The most mind-blowing thing of it all was that, as I did my devotions the next day, I read this passage in Isaiah 54:9-10:
"To me this is like the days of Noah,
when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.
So now I have sworn not to be angry with you,
never to rebuke you again.
Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,"
says the LORD, who has compassion on you. (NIV)
I took this passage along with the new covenant He forged with Noah after the flood, as evidenced by the rainbow He set in the skies at the time, to have to do metaphorically with the new covenant of grace (many parts to it like the rainbow's colors though one whole) with Him through Jesus instead of trying to keep the old covenant of works. As the metaphor coalesced for me while viewing these awesome rainbows, I felt His Presence drawing closer to me and enjoyed a revival of His incredible love within me...as I hope the viewer will, also.

Sorry about the low quality in both videos. It was recorded at a much smaller size than what is shown here, and rain kept getting on the lens. The rainbows really were much more incredible and awesome to see in person than what the video footage or digital camera captured. Just chalk it up to my inexperience in photography. *Smiles*
Note: It appears that during this season where we live, there has been an incredible amount of rain. As a result, we have been blessed with about two rainbows a week here off from our back yard. Praise the Lord! I am so astounded and amazed at God's beauty and grace.

ASH WEDNESDAY – 3/9/11
At Masses and services of worship on this day, ashes are imposed on the foreheads of the faithful. The priest, minister, or in some cases officiating layperson, marks the forehead of each participant with black ashes in the shape of a cross, which the worshipper traditionally retains until it wears off. The act echoes the ancient Near Eastern tradition of throwing ashes over one's head to signify repentance before God (as related in the Bible).
The priest or minister says one of the following when applying the ashes:
Remember, O man, that you are dust, and unto dust you shall return.
—Genesis 3:19
Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.
—Mark 1:15
Repent, and hear the good news.

Yom Kippur means "Day of Atonement" and refers to the annual Jewish observance of fasting, prayer and repentance. Part of the High Holidays, which also includes Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur is considered the holiest day on the Jewish calendar.
Tradition teaches that on Rosh HaShanah the Book of Life is written and on Yom Kippur our decree for New Year is sealed. We are taught that by doing t’shuvah (repentance), t’filah (prayer), and tzedakah (charity), we can have an effect on the severity of the decree. As a result, much of the Yom Kippur liturgy and the prescribed acts for all of the Yamim Noraim are aimed at achieving this goal. Yom Kippur, like Shabbat, is a day when one refrains from work. Leviticus 23:32 describes Yom Kippur as a Shabbat Shabbaton - a sabbath of complete rest. One of the greetings for this day is “G'mar chatimah tovah,” "May you be sealed for a good year ahead.”

Exhibition Poster dedicated to the architectural monuments of Romania destroyed by Ceausescu's Cultural Terrorism . The exhibition of photographs documenting the demolitions carried out in Romania's historical centres during the 1980's was organised in Paris at the Hotel de Sully in 1990.
It must be pointed out that during all these difficult years of oppression under Ceausescu's boot, The Romanian Orthodox Church remained silent: little wonder as it turned out in later years that a great number of priests were Secret Services agents - some of whom are NOW Bishops... Yet there is no Christian repentance or the slightest sense of atonement amongst the church hierarchy: all they are obsessed with is the building of a pharaonic cathedral ironically named the "Cathedral of National Salvation".... The new cathedral whose founding stone was just laid by the new Patriarch is to stand facing Ceausescu's "Palace of the People" and compete with it in size.... This happens at a time when a huge section of the Romanian population lives below the poverty line,. These funds could be diverted instead as alms to the poor - the children and the elderly, who are most affected by Ceuasescu's terrorist legacy.

The History of the Ohio State Reformatory:
"The cornerstone laid on November 4, 1886 evolved into this magnificent Chateauesque structure. Cleveland architect Levi T. Scofield designed the Ohio State Reformatory using a combination of three architectural styles; Victorian Gothic, Richardsonian Romanesque and Queen Anne. This was done to encourage inmates back to a "rebirth" of their spiritual lives. The architecture itself inspired them to turn away from their sinful lifestyle, and toward repentance
The Reformatory doors were opened to its first 150 young offenders in September 1896. After housing over 155,000 men in its lifetime, the doors to the prison closed December 31, 1990.
Today the Ohio State Reformatory Historic Site receives visitors from all over the world. Every year tourists, movie buffs, thrill seekers and paranormal investigators walk through the halls of this majestic structure.

Excerpt from www.excitinghistory.com/location/nijmegen-mariken-van-nie...:
Mariken van Nieumeghen is without doubt the most famous individual in the long history of Nijmegen. But Mariken never actually existed. She is the main character in a miracle play that was written around 1500 and largely set in Nijmegen.
Rhetoricians
The story is the high point of rhetorical theatre in the Low Countries. Rhetoricians recited stories and poems, sang songs and put on plays for special occasions. They also held competitions in oratory. Mariken van Nieumeghen was one of the winning pieces. Mariken first appears in a 1515 print by an Antwerp publisher.
Mariken and Moenen
Mariken is a young girl who is sent to buy provisions in Nijmegen for her uncle, a priest. As it gets dark, she wants to stay overnight with her aunt, who sends her away. In desperation, she leaves the city and meets with Moenen, a charming young man. He turns out to be the Devil in disguise. Together with Moenen, she goes to Antwerp and for seven years leads a life of depravity. Eventually, she returns to Nijmegen and repents. As penance, she spends seven years praying in a convent with iron rings around her neck. Finally, thanks to the intervention of the Virgin Mary, God is prepared to forgive her.
Miracle play
The story of Mariken is a medieval miracle play: a piece of religious theatre in which the wonder of God plays an essential part in the story. The message is clear: forgiveness is always possible no matter the extent of your sins, through sincere repentance and penance. The key scenes at the beginning and end of the play take place in Nijmegen. Her statue now stands in the Grote Markt square. It is the image of the innocent Mariken carrying her shopping basket to market in the big city.

Today, May 13, 2011, we celebrate the solemn feast of the 94th Anniversary of the Apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the Three Shepherds - Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia, in the small village of Fatima in Portugal, in 1917, bringing messages of hope, love, faith and salvation and encouraging people to love God above all and make repentance for their sins and to sacrifice themselves by praying the Holy Rosary everyday and to suffer like Our Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of the whole mankind, especially the souls in purgatory.
Above are the Holy Relics under my care - from the Clothing of Three Holy Shepherds of Fatima (left and right), and a Holy Card with an image of Our Lady of Fatima (middle). Below is the Rosary I use in my daily prayer.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
(2nd Peter 3:9)
I'm not sure
What I'm looking for anymore
I just know
That I'm harder to console
I don't see who I'm trying to be
Instead of me
But the key
Is a question of control
Can you say
What you're trying to play anyway
I just pay
While you're breaking all the rules
All the signs that I find
Have been underlined
Devils thrive on the drive
That is fuelled
All this running around
Well it's getting me down
Just give me a pain that I'm used to
I don't need to believe
All the dreams you conceive
You just need to achieve
Something that rings true
There's a hole in your soul
Like an animal
With no conscience
Repentance unknown
Close your eyes
Pay the price for your paradise
Devils feed on the seeds
That are sown
Can't conceal what I feel
What I know is real
No mistaking the faking
I care
With a prayer in the air
I will leave it there
