Anderson Road, Elburn, Illinois just recently opened and now connects Rt. 38 to Keslinger Road. I went north off Keslinger Road and then turned around and went south back to Keslinger Road just to check it out from both directions....lol.
It goes over the Chicago Metra rail yard and if it was a clear day, you'd be able to see evidence of that in this shot. The freshly paved road and walking path leading into the fog was screaming to be photographed.
So I screamed back with my camera :-)
Is it just me, or do you ever imagine some clouds are distant mountains? Being in the midwest, sometimes that's all a person can do........lol. Shot this out the passenger window as I drove east on Rt. 38 near Elburn, Illinois. I followed that big cloud out from the west and when I was approaching this scene, I decided to try and get the shot.
Have a great week everyone :-)
As seen along this road near Steamboat Springs,
open only to snowmobile traffic when the snow is this heavy, winding up the mountains through Buffalo Pass.
Colorado is so beautiful in winter!

This is one of my favorite farms/barns/silos to photograph. My last upload was this same spot at night (see below). The dusting of snow on the farm field created some nice texture for the scene. The sun peeked out to the upper left over the silo just enough to shed a bit of light on the subject as well. I froze to death waiting for that sunny moment too. Didnt amount to much but it was brighter than the moments before this shot. Better than nothing. In the winter, you gotta grab whatever sun you can!!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone :-)
Last time I shot here was 4 years a go. caught the UP1989 blasting thru main street DeKalb. this is the Only Main line crossing in the US that crosses Diagonally thru two Major state routes, Rt 23 and Rt 38. this unit badly needs a bath...(Double click to view large)
A farmer working the fields kickin' up a little dust after sunset, which was just 14 short minutes prior to this. I shot this at 6:13pm. It's getting dark way too early these days.
~Harley Road @ Rt 38 just east of Elburn, IL
.....and got pictures to prove it :-)
This is the Larsen house in Campton Hills on Beith Road just east of Anderson Road, north of Rt. 38. Every year the owner of the house puts on quite a light show using strobes, lasers, and a zillion lights, all set to music. More pictures below.
NO neighbors were disturbed in the making of this holiday magic ;-)
A WB freight with a GP50 leading both UP and CR power at Rockyford Rd crossing that I labelled my slides with "Home" as location as I lived right across the parallel ILL Rt. 38.
I had to get this shot!! The setting sun illuminated the side of the train beautifully with the warmest light and the sky became filled with soft pastel colors. As I approached this spot I could see this eastbound train was on the move. Knowing the signal would trip at any moment and nobody was behind me anyway, I put the car in park, jumped out, and composed the shot.
This is just west of the railroad park in Rochelle, Illinois. Across the tracks the road meets up with Illinois Rt. 38. This location is about 80 miles straight west of Chicago. Gotta love the country :-)
The last one of the day. As I drove towards home along Rt 38, a speedy loaded coal train was pulling ahead of me until it had to slow approaching Meredith Road. I pulled barely ahead and took the advantage to grab the sunset, train and grain elevators.

But I missed it due to my job . So I dug up this photo from 01/31/10. Its rare to see this WP Heritage units this close to CHicago. Seen here crossing Rt 38 and RT23 downtown at the center of DeKalb IL
Owego & Harford engines 2211 & 2302 power a southbound train through Richford, NY. The first dump-truck was taken by surprise and had to hit his brakes pretty hard in order to stop before the crossing. Traffic on this former Lehigh Valley line is not nearly as busy as the traffic on route 38.
Illinois Prairie Path (formerly Chicago Aurora & Elgin Railroad) just south of Rt. 38, Wheaton, Illinois.
Usually Im in the middle of railroad tracks getting shots but this time I'm in the middle of what is usually a very busy road getting a shot of the annual Cornfest in DeKalb, Illinois. This is looking west from the intersection of Illinois Rt. 23 and Rt. 38. Im standing just in front of the barricades preventing westbound traffic and a train is going through just to my left. With all the traffic stopped for these reasons, this photo op became possible.
The entrance to the center court of Moorestown (NJ) Mall on the Route 38 side, before the Sears store was added on here in 1971. The parosel shaped columns continued inside the mall and led to the center court.

A few years back, the Illinois tourism bureau came out with the slogan "Just outside Chicago, there's a place called Illinois," and scenes like this near Elburn are probably what they were referring to. This eb UP ethanol train was just about to pass under IL Rt. 38. The ex-Susquehanna B40-8 in the consist was a nice surprise, and something I haven't seen in a LONG time.
West of Rochelle, Illinois on Rt. 38. Everybody takes shots of this car and I was out that way so I took another shot :-)
Speaking of Cadillacs (not that I own one), I took my car in for an oil change and after waiting 90 minutes and spending $321.00, I was merrily on my way. Turns out I needed my tires rotated and a front brake job, too.
I have never owned a car long enough to need a brake job. Next on the list is changing the transmission fluid at $180. And then a rear brake job. Didnt get a price for that yet. *sigh*
Maybe I should just a new car....lol.
TORCWORI
February 23, 2014
I was out near Rochelle this afternoon so decided to check on TORCWORI. Plows had piled the snow about 3 feet high along the road so you couldn't pull into the drive, but I was able to get these shots from the wide shoulder. (TORCWORI - The Old Rusty Cadillac West of Rochelle, Illinois)
I have traveled on Rt 38 / Lincoln Highway quite a few times and have often noted this scene. On this particular day, the Sun finally got the light right for me.

Moorestown Mall, 400 Rt. 38; opened in 1970 as an expansion to the mall, replacing an older store in Camden which had been there since 1927. UPDATE: Will be closing by April 2020, leaving stores in Media and Willow Grove as the only two left in the greater Philly area.
Coming up Rt 38 from Moravia yesterday I was seeing all these dramatic clouds off to the east. But either there was no suitable foreground or there was no place to stop for a picture.
Finally in downtown Auburn there was an open parking place so I was able to get at least a small part of the formidable clouds in one picture by standing out in the middle of the street while the light was red behind me. This building was built in 1905.
CNW heads up north to St charles on the old St Charles -Geneva branch line along route 31 in 1982 in Geneva ILL.This track would come off the CNW main line at the Station and then north arcoss State St Rt 38
Geneva Illinois @ the Fox River. Sand bagging efforts to keep the river from flooding the structures along the west side banks.
The next shot is the bigger picture and shot after that is an even bigger picture taken from the Rt. 38 bridge to the left of the above scene. Island Park is completely under water. The footbridge in the center is part of the Illinois Prairie Path system along the river. On a normal day, dozens of bikers and joggers take advantage of the path.
