Today the group went somewhere a little different, a mental asylum called
Riverview that used to house the criminally insane and all sorts of other mentally ill patients.
Now it is the most used set for the movie industry in Canada, BC being the third most used place in North America. There was a film crew there when we were there!
Of course they say it's haunted, but we didn't see anything. We weren't really allowed to take pics on the grounds and definitely not inside which was too bad, but the buildings had their own charm.
Built in 1958 by architect Paul Rudolph, it was his first public building in the state of Florida. It is now slated for demolition--unless someone comes up with a plan (and the money) to save it.
Note the clothes racks on the RH side, this is in full sun all day and some enterprising person has put drying racks all along the rivers edge. First wash in the river then hang up, sure beats carrying wet clothes.

Today, even though I was so tired I’ve done little other than shower and lay down all day, Dracula took me to a cemetery I can tell I’m going to be visiting over and over again. Riverview Cemetery in Parkersburg, West Virginia. This is one of the oldest cemeteries here in town and home of a fabled weeping woman statue. I felt out of sorts, as I’m fully exhausted and still pretty dysregulated from the last week of U-hauls, driving, moving, and cleaning. I am so excited to get to know this town even more and find all the beautiful cemeteries.
Riverview Hospital is a mental health facility located in Coquitlam, British Columbia. Riverview opened in 1913 and had 4,630 patients at its peak in 1950.[1] In January 2009, only 256 active beds remained, in early 2012 only 3 wards remained containing less than 50 patients and as of mid June 2012 only 2 wards remain. The final two wards closed on Friday the 13th of July, 2012.
