So I wanted a bigger photo area than the shelf in the living room. But I didn't want to rearrange everything to move the desk away from the window. I should have. I couldn't spread the backdrop out far enough, I got light leaking through the blinds. I tried to bounce that desklamp off the white foamboard in the chair, and had paper taped around the lamp to shield it and point it at the foam but it was still too bright over there. My homemade softbox is on the other side. But the light was all still all crappy and the photos are full of noise and I had to use a tripod from across the room to get non-blurry shots. I dunno. Lots of fail. Oh well, this is how we learn.

Hi everyone! I recently build this BMW 3.0 CLS imaginary tuned for group B. Since I was a kid I always wanted to build a real car look alike, and NOW after almost 10 years of absence of Lego, I build this in some 2-3 weeks tweaked out like this.
It has functional steering mechanism and 2 mid pullback engines.
Details include: perfect fitted angled front sing, all 3 review mirrors, dashboard, seats, gear stick, handbrake, roll bar, MASSIVE side air vents, 3 round sing imitations, doorknobs, HUGE rear wing, small rear diffuser and 2 chrome exhaust.
This is actually product of me organizing and tidying up my Lego collection... which is in pieces he he as I always wanted to build something new :). Although, I have kept all my instructions safe and even after almost 10 years since I got my last model as a kid, I remember from which exact model are borrowed bricks. And this is the list : Red Dragster 5533 (red parts and few black), Star Wars Pod Race 7171(black parts and details), Hot Buster 8382, Zonic Strike 8357, Wlliams F1 1/27 8374 (black parts, engines&wheels), steering mechanism, handle wheel and other technic parts from big TECHNIC 8446 and 2 BIONICLE gears.
This is only version of a kinda real car I could build with my bricks. I could build it in classic, non tuned way, but my brick collection allows only this way and I kinda can not manage to have a Lego found here in Croatia :/ .

Simon Hucko pushed me in round 21.
(have a look at his stream, he is experimenting with a lot of different things that may give you ideas).
Simon's push was:
- a table top still life of a subject of your choosing.
- light source can be anything from a flash to a window to a desk lamp to a work light,
- mold and shape that light using diffusion and reflectors to add to your subject.
- Bonus points for including a "pull back" setup shot.
I had been playing with these elephants (opium weights my wife picked up during her travels in Asia) and wanted to use their shadow but with the soft window light there was not enough shape in so I decided to use the flash for that and then needed a second flash to prevent the background from being too dark. I did play a bit with contrast and so and cropped on in PS Elements to get to this result (might have overdone that a bit, and will give the processing another go.

Brake band and linkage has been fitted for testing "next fine day". Band lining won't be applied until the results are in. Elbow has tab projection for mounting a microswitch to cut power once brake is applied. Temporary cardboard for lining the band during testing.
Brakes are applied and set in these views, there is sufficient over centre weight in the linkage that may not require the 2 release pullback springs to be fitted.
Back when the first Drome-Racers wave came out, the Power-Crusher along with the Nitro Pulverizer were among the leading-sets. The big difference was the pullback vs. slammer as means of getting the racers moving. Sometime in the last 3 years, I decided to rebuild the two.
Here's my custom pullback taking flight. Powered by one very cheap elastic band rather than a proper pullback motor - see the underside shot for a better look at the mechanism.
The products of Sun Hing Toys are probably dismissed as cheap souvenir themed toys but for me they hold a lot of charm and are surprisingly well made for their price point.
I dare say this unlicensed first generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has been continually produced for decades and yet its entire body is still made of thick gauge metal giving it a really weighty feel. As accurate as it dare considering its unlicensed status and features clear lense headlights, rear detailing and pullback function.
Found in a toy shop in Hong Kong recently.

A great series of nicely detailed die cast cars given away as part of a promotion for Suntory Boss coffee out of Japan. With the exception of the 3 that came with stands, these are all "pull back" cars that go zipping forward once you pull them back and let them go!

I hadn't really heard of Sun Hing Toys until i'd arrived in Hong Kong but quickly established they were the main souvenir fodder in many many market stalls and toy shops. Available in different scales but predictably I chose the ones closer to three inches/Matchbox sized though having said that their buses are a bit bigger than your normal Matchbox and Tomica varieties.
Available in masses of different colours and liveries I really wish I had the luggage space to buy them all but instead opted for this I LOVE HK recolour.
All Sun Hing Toys castings are unlicensed but i've more than a sneaky feeling this is supposed to represent a Wright Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B8L. but i'm no bus expert so any additional ideas would be good. Many thanks to Joieman for identifying it correctly. A sensible mix of metal and plastic for its low price point plus the obligatory pullback function.
Bought from one of the many toy shops down the famous toy street in Sham Shui Po.

After a strong move of one or more legs, and even after the first leg if the leg is strong, the market often goes sideways for a number of bars before the trend resumes. The sideways move can last for hours and have large swings, and it often begins and ends with spikes that have extremes that...

Came upon these that I took last summer when I was just starting to use a home made lightbox and wireless flash.
I saw that I never did anything with them. I did with some other vegetables but not my favorite snack.
Just kidding about the snack comment. I don't eat garlic raw. :c )

I must admit to having never heard of Sun Hing Toys or their products until I visited Hong Kong recently. I'm assuming the vast majority of their diecasts have been designed purely for their domestic market as I never saw any in Japan, just lots in most toy shops, market stalls and souvenir shops/kiosks.
Available in mainly "1/64/3 inch" size or bigger they are an absolute joy to behold with bright colours and fancy packaging plus many interesting vehicles such as this super cute Ice Cream van. From what I could see all of their castings are unlicensed but rarely generic which has had me scratching my head as to what vehicle this is based on? A modified VW T4 perhaps?
It was extremely cheap to buy costing around the equivalent of 2.00 and yet features an all metal body and pullback function as well as some great painted detailing.
Found in a toy shop situated in the famous Sham Shui Po Toy Street which was an absolute mecca for diecast collectors!
Quneitra was once a bustling town in the Golan Heights and southwestern Syria's administrative capital with a population of 37,000. The word Quneitra derives from Qantara, or 'bridge', between Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine. Known for its abundant water resources, it has been continuously inhabited since the Stone Age. Over the millennia, many peoples, including Arameans, Assyrians, Caldeans, Persians, Greeks, and Arabs have occupied it. St. Paul, it is said, passed through Quneitra on his way from Damascus to Jerusalem.
In 1967, during the six-day war, Israel captured Quneitra. It then became a site of many battles but, except for a brief interlude, remained in Israeli hands until 1974, when a UN-brokered agreement led to an Israeli pullback. Before withdrawing, however, Quneitra was evacuated and systematically destroyed by the Israeli army (based on eyewitness accounts; UN General Assembly resolution 3240 in 1974 condemned Israel's role in its destruction. Israel disputes this account). Many prominent Western reporters, agreeing with the UN and Syrian version of events, saw this as nothing short of an act of wanton brutality — a whole town methodically ransacked, dynamited, and bulldozed.

Modi, Xi, Putin among top leaders to attend first in-person SCO summit after covid
The sudden announcement of Xi's participation in the SCO summit, shedding his covid concerns has created a buzz. On Wednesday, Xi for the first time in over two years flew out of China.
BEIJING: The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will hold its first in-person summit in Samarkand in Uzbekistan on Thursday after two years, shaking off the Covid fears and providing a rare opportunity for all its eight heads of state to meet on the sidelines of the event to have face-to-face talks on pressing global and regional issues of common concern.
The last in-person SCO summit was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in 2019.
After that, the 2020 Moscow summit was held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic, while the 2021 summit at Dushanbe was conducted in a hybrid mode.
Launched in Shanghai in June 2001, the SCO has eight full members, including its six founding members, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan joined as full members in 2017.
SCO observer states include Afghanistan, Belarus, and Mongolia, while Dialogue partners include Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Turkey, as well as Armenia and Azerbaijan.
This is the first time after the 2020 covid pandemic that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will be attending the two-day summit.
The sudden announcement of Xi's participation in the SCO summit, shedding his covid concerns has created a buzz. On Wednesday, Xi for the first time in over two years flew out of China.
He travelled to Kazakhstan on his first state visit since January 2020 from there he would travel to neighbouring Uzbekistan to take part in the Samarkand summit.
China kept his programme under wraps and declined to confirm reports of Xi's meetings with Putin and Modi on the sidelines.
The sudden move by China last week acceding to India's demand to pullback its troops from the contentious Petrol Point 15 at Gogra and Hot Springs, which some say is a step forward to end the military standoff in eastern Ladakh which began in May 2020 after which the relations between the two countries nosedived.
As a result of a series of military and diplomatic talks, the two sides completed the disengagement process last year on the north and south banks of Pangong lake and in the Gogra area.
The pullback of troops from PP 15 has sparked speculation about the likelihood of a Modi-Xi meeting at Samarkand.
The Samarkand SCO summit will also mark the second recent expansion of the organisation as Iran will be formally admitted into the influential Central Asian grouping after India and Pakistan's admission as full members in 2017.
Besides the eight member states, four observer countries and six dialogue partners, around 10 other nations have expressed their interest to join the political, economic and security organisation or upgrade their status within the group, according to official media reports here.
After the formalities, Iran will attend the next summit to be held in India.
According to SCO officials Belarus, a close ally of Russia, has applied for full membership and is expected to join the grouping soon.
Besides the eight SCO leaders, heads of the state of Iran, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia, the two countries which are locked in military conflict, are due to be present at the Samarkand summit making it a huge conclave, officials said.
Ahead of his visit to Uzbekistan to take part in the SCO summit, Xi praised the grouping, saying that it had set a fine example in international relations.
"During my visit to Uzbekistan this time, I will attend the SCO Samarkand Summit. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Charter of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Long-Term Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization," Xi wrote in an article published in Uzbek media.
"Guided by the purposes and principles enshrined in these two documents, the SCO has acted on the Shanghai Spirit, stayed true to its founding mission, and promoted the joint efforts among its member states for stability and development," Xi said.
"The SCO has set a fine example of a new type of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation, and proved itself an important and constructive force in the Eurasian region and in international affairs," he said.
"China applauds Uzbekistan for its efforts. I am confident that with the joint efforts of all sides, the Samarkand Summit will produce fruitful outcomes and make a greater contribution to building an even closer SCO community with a shared future and to the peace, stability, development and prosperity of our region," he said.

India keeps independent diplomacy as Modi to attend SCO summit while New Delhi walks away from US-led IPEF
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has confirmed his attendance at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit which will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from Thursday to Friday, just days after India's decision to walk away from part of the US-led Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) last week. Analysts said India is sticking to an independent and autonomous diplomacy and they hope India will be more united with other SCO members including China and Russia, and play a more positive role to promote multipolarization of the world together.
Modi is likely to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, said a statement the Indian Ministry of External Affairs released on Sunday.
As to whether Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin or Modi, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at Tuesday's routine press conference, "I have no information to offer at the moment. We will release information in a timely manner if there is any."
Wang Yiwei, director of the Institute of International Affairs at the Renmin University of China, told the Global Times on Wednesday that India has always stressed independence and autonomy in its diplomacy and strategy, so it has always been open to joining different international organizations to maximize its own interests. The latest move to walk away from the US-led IPEF means New Delhi will not be cheated or fooled by Washington easily.
India has stayed out of the trade pillar of the IPEF, it announced after the IPEF ministerial meeting held in Los Angeles on September 8-9. India's Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal cited concerns over possible discrimination against developing economies. India was the only one of the 14 IPEF countries, which include Southeast Asian countries, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan, not to join the declaration on trade.
The conspicuous absence of India in the trade pillar, one of the four pillars of the IPEF, underlines the dispute between India and the US regarding the mechanism, a US-led geopolitical tool hiding behind economy issues, and implies an uncertain future for the framework, said analysts.
Although India wants to gain benefits from US' Indo-Pacific Strategy to serve its competition with China in the region, New Delhi is very clear that where it can get real interests and who will set a trap for it or even use it to contain others, experts said.
Lin Minwang, a professor at the Institute of International Studies of Fudan University, told the Global Times on Wednesday that India's diplomatic tradition is to get interests by keeping a balance between different major world powers, so ahead of the SCO Summit, it will release some positive signals to show that India is not teaming up with the US to contain China and Russia.
"Joining the SCO serves India's demand to increase cooperation with the Central Asian countries and Russia, to strengthen the connectivity with other countries in the region. For other SCO founding members, to include India, the fifth-biggest economy in the world with a huge population, will also strengthen the influence of the organization. So it's mutually beneficial," Lin said.
In recent years, due to the impact of the US Indo-Pacific Strategy, there are some signs that India's strategy is getting more and more pro-US, which is different from other members of the SCO, so the role that New Delhi could play in the SCO is limited. To change the situation, India needs to show more positive signals and become more united with other SCO members, analysts said. They noted that this has changed somewhat after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the latest decision that India made to stay away from the trade pillar of the IPEF.
India needs to follow the consensus reached by the SCO members, so it can benefit more from the organization and have a more positive role to play, experts noted.
Lin said the SCO is also valuable for India to communicate with Pakistan, which is an SCO member, to avoid miscalculations and conflict and solve disputes through dialogue. Regarding China-India relations, the SCO is an important mechanism for the two sides to ease border tensions and seek more possibilities for cooperation.
Compared with the US-led "multilateral mechanism" which in fact serves the unipolar world order dominated by US hegemony, the SCO formed by non-Western key powers like China, Russia, India and Pakistan is much more collaborative and is really promoting the multipolarization of the world that benefits the majority of the international community, which is why countries like Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Belarus are seeking membership or deeper connection with the SCO, analysts said.

If I had an unlimited baggage allowance I would happily have scooped up scores of Sun Hing Toys diecasts whilst in Hong Kong recently. They are the dominating brand when it comes to souvenir aimed models which explains its large array of castings and different liveries and all very cheap too.
They aren't obviously in the same league as the products of Tiny which are more collector focused, cheap but very cheerful and like this Toyota Coaster based bus are usually quite realistic and crisply cast. Pullback function and full interior.
Part of a three vehicle set found in a toy shop down the famous Sham Shui Po Toy Street.

I found this old pullback toy while rebuilding the floor on my workshop it looks like a 1980's Toyota 4x4 but there's no markings on it just "MADE IN CHINA" its more or less 1/43 scale.
