Most of the machines at the Bowersock Dam are wonderfully mechanical, but occasionally, you need some digital assistance. Here, they wanted to compare mechanical and electronic monitoring as a means of verification.

It tooks us 35 minutes to drive 17km beyond El Chalten on the very bumpy gravel road in our rented Volkswagen Gol car in very crappy condition to reach the alternate trail head for Fitz Roy.

The trail begins from an Inn named El Pilar. A five minute walk up the river past the Inn we notice this structure.

How ingenious!

They ran a huge pipe (left) a few hundred meters up the river (behind) and get enough pressure to generate their own electricity from this hydro electric station.

It's not just that it's free. It's clean, and.... it's there. There is no infrastructure here. No phone lines, no power lines. Barely a road. If they want electricity they have few options... maybe Solar (not enough and doesn't work at night), Diesel would be the other (expensive) option.

Next time I build a place in a remote part of the world, I'm going to think about building one of these!

Wind-turbine blades manufactured at a Siemens Energy factory in Port Madison, Iowa, are off-loaded from trains in Pasco, Wash. The blades -- each 160 feet long and weighing 11 tons -- are trucked to Garfield County for assembly on wind turbines at Puget Sound Energy's Lower Snake River Wind Project - Phase I.

The Longannet chimney now takes the accolade of being the tallest free-standing structure in Scotland after the Inverkip Power Station stack was demolished on 28th July 2013.

POWER STATION DEMOLITION

Longannet coal-fired operations finally ended for the last time on Thursday 24/3/16 four years early and the main power generation Hall was demolished by explosives in Feb 2021. The towering chimney was brought down by detonation on 9/12/21

Cohoes Triva: Around the turn of the century, daredevil Bobby Leach went over the Cohoes Falls in a steel barrel, practicing for his future stunt at Niagara.

Author James Fenimore Cooper referred to the Cohoes Falls as The Cahoos in his novels.

Some Cohoes residents have reported that they have seen the ghost of an Indian maiden paddling her canoe near the falls on moonlit nights. This is probably an urban legend. Similarly, some theatergoers have reported seeing a ghost in the Cohoes Music Hall.

American art song composer Lori Laitman has set Thomas Moore's 1804 Cohoes poem to music. An article about the song appeared in the November 2006 issue of Classical Singer Magazine.

Ohau A is a hydro station located in the Mackenzie Basin, South Canterbury, New Zealand. It has four 66 megawatt generating units, and a generation output of up to 264 megawatts.

The Ohau A power station is located at the end of the manmade Pukaki canal. The Pukaki canal joins with the Ohau canal to consolidate the water flows from Lake Ohau and Lake Pukaki.

Ohau A was the second hydro station to be built on the Upper Waitaki hydro scheme. The Waitaki hydro scheme is made up of eight hydro stations on the Waitaki River in the South Island.

During construction of Ohau A, approximately two million cubic metres of rock and gravel was excavated from the northern bank of the Ohau River.

Lines on the wall at the Bowersock Dam behind this guage show the levels of various historical floods in the area. The 1951 flood must have been a doozie because this place is WAY above the normal level of the river.
