Is this a scene from a corny science fiction movie of the 1950s? It's actually one of the early steps in the evolution of the Deep Space Network.
In 1951, JPL was working on missile development for the U.S. Army. In order to receive data signals from missiles in flight, JPL also developed telemetering ground equipment. The system included these helical antennas as well as receivers, recording equipment, gas-powered generators and batteries for power, and telephones for communication between primary and secondary telemetering sites. All the equipment, including a control room, was installed in trucks so it could be easily transported and set up in the field.
The directional antennas were mounted on top of 35-foot telephone poles. During testing, each antenna was steered using a small wheel, like a ship's wheel, near the bottom of the pole, attached to the antenna by rope.

"So, we were told to finish off the ship. With the seppies already attacking their own ship I guess the "higher ups" decide it was time to just get rid of this asset. Droids are never a problem for us.
Now to escape the ship before it blows up......"

CEA Project Logistics Myanmar recently carried out the demobilisation of 14 Gas Powered Generator Sets and accompanying parts and accessories from a Power Plant project in Kyaukpyu, Rakhine State to Yangon and then onwards to Singapore.
The initial part of this project began with the transportation of the vehicles and equipment necessary for the demobilisation. A 1500 Tonne Landing Craft Tank (LCT) barge was loaded then sailed from Yangon to Kyaukpyu on the West Coast of Myanmar. In preparation for the barge’s arrival, a section of beach was cleared with an excavator and steel plates laid down to ensure a smooth, safe roll off for all vehicle’s and equipment.
Due to the project involving a beach landing, careful attention was paid to the local high tides to ensure the barge arrived and departed at the optimum time without any interruption or delay to the operation. CEA carried out all crane operations at the Power Plant site and transportation of the 14 Generators Sets housed in 20ft Containers to the Posco-Daewoo Jetty 15km away. The containers and accessories were lifted and loaded onto the barge in two separate shifts over 24 hours.
Upon arrival at the Myanmar International Port in Yangon CEA completed all the necessary customs documentation. After approval was granted from the Myanmar Customs Office the generators were shipped to Singapore to undergo maintenance and be readied for use on another Power Plant project.
For this project, CEA Myanmar worked in conjunction with the Kyaukpyu Government, Myanmar Customs Office, Myanmar Port Authority and the Posco-Daewoo Oil Company. Total project duration from start to completion was 7 days.

Although only 7 years old, a 5000 TEU PANAMAX container ship is quite obsolete. It's too small to operate between container hubs, where the optimum size is 13000 TEU plus, but too large to operate on feeder services. For trial purposes, the vessel is fitted with LNG powered generators.

Pictures taken by the late Jim Sharrocks, a former Works Engineer for CPA at Strines, of the vertical steam engine power generators. The Print Works used steam and hot water for the printing and dying process, so the steam engines were in use from installation in the 1920s until the works closed. Most power was DC to power the machines, but one set has been converted to AC when more modern motor contollers were introduced. The engines were 2 cylinder compounds, and ran in near silence, in sharp contrast to the Mirrlees Diesels that I was working with

Screw Power is extracted when water enters the screw at the top and the weight of the water pushes on the helical flights, allowing the water to fall to the lower level and causing the screw to rotate. This rotational energy of the Archimedes screw can then be extracted by an electrical generator connected to the main shaft of the screw.
To the left is a big power generator behind the walls. Was it always that? I can see it's lost the upper level and any roof if it had one...I've got a feeling it was formerly something else because I suspect the building itself predates electrical generators, but I could be wrong!
This is a view of Susie's ranch home shot over the kitchen table into the living room. Yes, she does use kerosene lamps and candles at night as there is no electric wiring on this homestead - since she is five miles from the main highway. The last house with electricity before her is a couple miles closer to the main highway. She also cooks on a wooden stove. Susie does have a small propane fueled refrigerator ignited by a started hooked to a car battery that she has to charge periodically with a gas powered generator. All the conveniences of home - just not all that modern.

I took this series of Ten Photographs outside the International Independent Showmen's Carnival Museum, which is located at 6938 Riverview Drive in Riverview, Florida.
This Photo shows the Museum Building, a Strates Carnival Wagon and a Royal American Shows Wagon.
On August 4, 2017, I drove to Riverview, Florida to see the International Independent Showman's Museum to see what the Carnies had on display in the museum. Unfortunately, i arrive late in the afternoon and apparently it was closed. They were apparently having a Public Convention, but I arrived too late to gain admission to the museum. Therefore, I took Photographs of the Items displayed outside the museum.
There was a Banner attached to the Fence with the following lettering upon it:
SHOWMAN'S CARNIVAL MUSEUM OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Museum 813 671-3503 - - - - By Appointment 813 765-7xxx
Unfortunately, the Banner was folded back on itself, so that I couldn't see the last three digits of the second Phone Number.
I came back a week later and discovered that, many of the items that I photographed had been removed from the grounds and most likely locked up inside the museum. So I stopped in the Office on the otherside of Riverview Drive at International Showman's Foundation Building and asked the Office Manager, for a schedule of when the Museum is opened to the Public. She didn't know, but suggested that they might be opened on weekends. I took one more photo of a banner outside of the foundation building which depicts two American Fags, a Globe of the Earth and a Ribbon superimposed on the banner tittle'd: "International - Independent Showmen's Association". This Photograph can be seen as the next Photo in my Photostream, following this Ten Photo Sequence.

This statue was a gift from the former Yugoslavia to commemorate the American bicentennial and the 120th anniversary of Tesla's birth. The statue is located in Niagara Falls because it is where Telsa built the world's first hydroelectric generator. The generator was part of Tesla's development of AC power transmission, which triumphed over Edison's attempts to promote DC transmission. Tesla also invented the radio, but don't try telling them that in Signal Hill, Newfoundland.

Water by Charles Sheeler.
Water depicts one of the power generators built by the Tennessee Valley Authority in the 1930s, when hydroelectric power was being distributed throughout the Tennessee River region of the United States. Sheeler's experience as a photographer influenced his Precisionist style of painting, in which he emphasized the geometric shapes of objects in a hard-edged, clearly lit manner. For Sheeler, these monumental, streamlined forms signified human ingenuity in harnessing nature's power. His interpretation of American industry was somewhat idealized: workers are never shown, and the machinery is pristine and gleaming, free of any dirt or smoke.
Sheeler expressed his feelings about the emotional symbolism of technology when he wrote: "Every age manifests itself by some external evidence. In a period such as ours when only a comparatively few individuals seem to be given to religion, some form other than the Gothic cathedral must be found. Industry concerns the greatest numbers—it may be true, as has been said, that our factories are our substitute for religious expression" (quoted in Constance Rourke, Charles Sheeler: Artist in the American Tradition, 1938).
Taken during a visit to the The Metropolitan Museum of Art (aka "The Met") in New York City in May 2009. Despite spending 6+ hours exploring the museums Egyptian, Japanese, and Modern Art collection, we only managed to see a small portion of what the museum has to offer.

This is a portable power genarator that came with a diecast construction set I found at CVS Pharmacy. Although most of the pieces in the set were approximately 1:64, this generator seemed a little bigger proportions than it should have been. So, it's probably around 1:50 scale or so.
There was no manufacturer's name on the box, other than some holding company, but I'm certain it was made by same company who made the Bomb Squad truck I just uploaded. The wheels were the same and there were some vehicles in the construction set that were the exact same vehicles in a another little $2 construction playset I found out the Dollar General Store, which was made by "Express Wheels."
No matter who makes them, this little portable generator features a hitch on it so that it can be pulled with the vehicles in the construction set. Several of them had a hitch on the back for just such purpose.
Tetsugaku no Michi (哲学の道), or the Philosopher’s Walk or the Philosopher’s Path, is a pedestrian path following the cherry-tree-lined Lake Biwa Canal in the northern part of the Higashiyama district. Approximately 2 kilometers long, the path begins around Ginkaku-ji and ends at Nanzen-ji. The route is so-named because the influential 20th century Japanese philosopher and professor Nishida Kitaro was said to practice meditation while walking this route on his daily commute to Kyoto University.
Biwako Sosui (琵琶湖疏水 or 琵琶湖疎水), or the Lake Biwa Canal, tunnels 20 kilometers through the mountains to Lake Biwa. Built during the Meiji Period to transport water, freight and passengers from the Lake to the city of Kyoto, it was also used as Japan’s first hydroelectric power generator, which served to provide electricity for Kyoto's trams.

In Burma power is only available to the people for a few hours a day. People who can afford it use a cheap chinese power generator to power the most necessary things.
Very often you see neon lights or light bulbs outside of small villages at night, sharing the light.
Please keep in mind:
Burma (Myanmar) is ruled by a military junta. In 1990 Aung San Suu Kyi was elected by the people and imprisoned for the next 20 years after the election by the military.
In 2010 a election was staged to keep the military leaders in their current positions. People are starving and are forced to work.
All the pictures you may see in my stream are very onesided, as it is prohibited to take pictures of the military and the police. Also I just do not take pictures of poor people on the streets and there are a lot of very poor people in Burma.
The Burmese people are the nicest people I ever met and should be supported, even if I don´t really know how.
The country needs support. I posted some links to some international organizations helping Burma.
Burma is NOT the usual travel destination! Even if I am avoided all governement fees as far as possible (partly in long hours of bus travel) I still can´t say that I am sure travelling the country helps the people or should be boycotted as proposed by some people.
The government just moved the capital to Naypyidaw. When I saw it from the bus passing it, I had tears in my eyes seeing how the "Generals" collect the money building fancy buildings and streets around them with people starving. I was so shocked that I did not even took a picture...

Boulder City, Nevada
Constructed in 1940. It was one of 2 companies that operated power generators at Hoover Dam. From 1936-1987 the LADWP was contracted to run 13 of the Dam's generating units to supply power to southern California, Arizona and Nevada Since 1987, when the LADWP vacated the building, the city of Boulder City has used it for community functions.
