The American sycamore (Plantanus occidentalis) is also known as planetree and buttonwood. But the native American name is most fitting for this specimen: "Ghost of the Forest".

This individual, in the Brandywine Battlefield Park in Chadds Ford, PA is known as the Lafayette Sycamore. The building on the right is the 1754 Gilpin House which was Lafayette's headquarters prior to the battle of the Brandywine, the largest battle in the Revolutionary War.

Kodak Eastman Double-X (5222) is one of the most famous 35mm film stocks out there. It's really a movie film, not sold by Kodak in anything smaller than 400 ft. reels (!!). Fortunately, others repack it in 100 ft reels, or even 135 standard cassettes. Double-X has been used in Schindler's List, Casino Royale or The Lighthouse.

This Plane tree is in the small Wiltshire Town of Mere.

Platanus /ˈplætənəs/ is a genus consisting of a small number of tree species native to the Northern Hemisphere. They are the sole living members of the family Platanaceae.

All members of Platanus are tall, reaching 30–50 m (98–164 ft) in height. All except for P. kerrii are deciduous, and most are found in riparian or other wetland habitats in the wild, though proving drought-tolerant in cultivation. The hybrid London plane (Platanus × acerifolia) has proved particularly tolerant of urban conditions, and has been widely planted in London and elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

They are often known in English as planes or plane trees. Some North American species are called sycamores (especially Platanus occidentalis), although the term sycamore also refers to the fig Ficus sycomorus, the plant originally so named, and to the sycamore maple

walking on the magic sea of leaves

Discovering the beauty of a plane tree...

Saturday was a slow and unreamarkable day in the best sense. We spent far too much time in our pajamas and eventually went for a walk and grocery shopping in the late afternoon.

The theme for week 47 is "HDR". I love high dynamic range photography, but I didn't have much time this week, so this is a last minute effort.

Beaune is a walled city. Most of the ramparts remain intact and nearly encircle the entire old town center. Impressive two-hundred-year-old plane trees line parts of the walk on the ramparts â Ramparts, Beaune, Bourgogne, France.

The history of the park is closely linked to the Fowler Brotherhood - Kraków’s Sharpshooters’ Association founded to promote the defence of the city.

The Fowler Brotherhood is one of the oldest fellowships in the world, it was founded more than 700 years ago and was training Cracovians, preparing them to protect the city walls.

"Angel" is a ten metre high, three-legged statue installed along the Yarra River bank at Birrarung Marr in 2006. The sculpture was originally commissioned from Melbourne mosaic artist Deborah Halpern for installation in the "moat" in front of the National Gallery of Victoria in 1985, but was relocated by the Gallery when major renovations were undertaken by them in 1999.

I had a lovely morning outing along Melbourne's Birrarung Marr with the Famous Flickr Five + Group. Walking along the corniche by the Yarra River provides some beautiful views of the Melbourne central business district also known as "the grid" because the original Melbourne city was based on a grid of main streets, famous Southbank precinct and views east along the Yarra.

Birrarung Marr is an inner city park between the Melbourne central business district and the Yarra River. It was opened in 2002. The name "Birrarung Marr" means "river of mists" and "river bank" in the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people, the Indigenous inhabitants at the time of European settlement of the Melbourne area.

One of the trees in my neighborhood -- a sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus). In Europe these are known as "sycamores" -- except in Scotland where they are "plane trees." They're not native to the US but commonly planted as street trees.

Autumn; the name of the season that landscape photographers say with a touch of reverence. The mystical time of cool nights, fine days, calm weather and golden colour. Well sometimes it is anyway.

The other morning we went out to shoot some autumn colour and came across these Plane trees on the driveway of Te Awa Winery. Mix with a bit of sunlight and this is what you get:

The Troodos National Forest Park covers an area of 9,147 hectares around Mount Olympus. It is an area of great natural beauty, suitable for activities such as hiking, biking and camping .

A frame of 12 plane trees along this popular part of Ioannina’s lakefront, colloquially referred to as “twelve” (Greek: δώδεκα). It is a common is the misconception that the name is derived from the depth of lake Pamvotis near this point, claimed to be 12m. The actual origin of the name is said to be the number of the outpost the Italian forces had built near this spot during WWII, #12.
