Oh, and HBM!
That little monument was sculptured by G. Borglum, the same fellow who chiseled the faces on Mt Rushmore!
I'm back!!! Had a great time even if the weather wasn't the best.
Here are some "helicopters" from the Plane tree, I love throwing these into the air and watching them spiral down.

Well yes, it is actual Plane tree bark... but you know what I mean..

Strolling through the Jardim da Cordoaria in Porto, Portugal, we came across this amazing scene of dappled light through the canopy of the outstandingly gigantic plane trees. A beautiful avenue.

Lēthaeus river, captured in October, in late afternoon.
Lēthaeus river (Ληθαῖος, Lēthæus / Lithéos) flows through the city centre of Trikala in Thessaly, central Greece. It is a tributary of Pēneus (Πηνειός, Piniós, a larger river). Lēthaeus rises in Antichassia mountains; its source lies at an altitude of 500 m. The river’s length is 36 km.
According to Greek mythology, Lēthaeus was the son of Lēthē (Λήθη, Greek female noun for Oblivion or Forgetfulness). Lēthē was one of the five rivers of the underworld ( ᾅδης, Hadēs ): the souls of the dead entering Hadēs had to drink from Lēthē to experience complete forgetfulness in the afterlife.
Asclepius —the god of Medicine— was born by the river banks of Lēthaeus, according to Strabo’s geography (XIV, 647). The god’s birthplace was Trikala (aka Tricca or Trikkē: Τρίκαλα, Τρίκκη) :
“There is another Lethæus in Gortyne, a third near Tricca, where Asclepius is said to have been born, and…”
—Strabo (Geography, ⅩⅣ, 647)
Original Strabo’s text in ancient Greek:
« Ἕτερος δ’ ἐστί Ληθαῖος ποταμὸς ὁ περὶ Τρίκκην ἐφ’ᾧ ὁ Ἀσκληπιὸς γεννηθῆναι λέγεται »
Hotel near the bank of the Seine in the village of La Roche-Guyon (the département of Val d'Oise, in the Île-de-France region of northern France), on a clear morning in early October 2016. A table and chairs are set up for eating or drinking in the still somewhat warm weather.
La Roche-Guyon is located downriver from Paris, along the northern (right) bank of the Seine and on the slopes and chalk bluffs above it. It is just a little upriver from the confluence of the River Epte with the Seine and thus quite near the border of Normandy. It has been designated as one of "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" (The Most Beautiful Villages of France). The village and its surroundings are located within Le Parc naturel régional du Vexin français, a primarily agricultural plateau with river valleys.
(Information from the official commune website and the French Wikipédia entry, both last consulted 16 September 2018.)
After landing at Charles-de-Gaulle (Roissy) Airport northeast of Paris, we spent the first two nights of our 2016 trip in France in this village downriver from Paris, along the northern (right) bank of the Seine. It was just the right distance, near enough to the airport to allow for an easy drive on our first morning, while far enough from the city to be uncrowded and tranquil.

We visited Villecroze yesterday morning for Bob's first visit to the vet. Afterwards we had a coffee in this beautiful square, just right of the photo. Some local men were playing pétanque. I took a photo of this same square in the winter when the trees were bare. How different it looks in the summer!

This neighborhood has been invaded several times in recent weeks by flocks of 'Little Corellas', which descend in large numbers to feast on the fruit of street plane trees. It is easy to spot where they have eaten by the mass of leftover clippings and chaff covering the street.
Anyone like to count the number of corellas in the near tree - please feel free to do so!

The American sycamore (Plantanus occidentalis) is also known as planetree and buttonwood. But the native American name is most fitting for this specimen: "Ghost of the Forest".
This individual, in the Brandywine Battlefield Park in Chadds Ford, PA is known as the Lafayette Sycamore. The building on the right is the 1754 Gilpin House which was Lafayette's headquarters prior to the battle of the Brandywine, the largest battle in the Revolutionary War.

A quiet walk along the Ripoll river, near Sabadell.
Picture taken with a Leica M3 made in 1963; Leitz Elmar f2.8 / 50mm; Kodak Double-X (5222) @200 stand developed 45min. in Rodinal 1+100.
Kodak Eastman Double-X (5222) is one of the most famous 35mm film stocks out there. It's really a movie film, not sold by Kodak in anything smaller than 400 ft. reels (!!). Fortunately, others repack it in 100 ft reels, or even 135 standard cassettes. Double-X has been used in Schindler's List, Casino Royale or The Lighthouse.

Platanus /ˈplætənəs/ is a genus consisting of a small number of tree species native to the Northern Hemisphere. They are the sole living members of the family Platanaceae.
All members of Platanus are tall, reaching 30–50 m (98–164 ft) in height. All except for P. kerrii are deciduous, and most are found in riparian or other wetland habitats in the wild, though proving drought-tolerant in cultivation. The hybrid London plane (Platanus × acerifolia) has proved particularly tolerant of urban conditions, and has been widely planted in London and elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
They are often known in English as planes or plane trees. Some North American species are called sycamores (especially Platanus occidentalis), although the term sycamore also refers to the fig Ficus sycomorus, the plant originally so named, and to the sycamore maple
