Having now spent a decade at the same university in the pursuit of two degrees, I find myself treading the same paths under continually changing circumstances. This, of course, is life, yet having such continuity of scenery, as though I were a player on a stage is always strange. Here is an image of the exterior of Ida Noyes Hall. As a freshman in college I came through here to watch movies at Doc Films, the student-run cinema and to eat ribs during the university’s Ribs and Blues festival. Later, when I turned 21, I would frequent the pub with my friends and future wife. Later still, I would bring dinner and homework to her as she would life guard in a now extinct swimming pool. My neighbor and very good friend was married on campus and he and his wife had their wedding reception in the very spot where this image was taken – I took the photographs. Later still, I was married nearby and my wife and I had our own wedding reception here and throughout graduate school I’ve returned to the Pub for each and every milestone. These constants of place provide us with a rare opportunity to eliminate the variable of time and view our previous selves, haunting a common path.
Through the green, past the trees
Riding on the Summer breeze
Chasing shadows on the ground
Followed by bees that buzz around
As on the branches, winged ones talk
Through the green, i slowly walk
Following the scent blown on the breeze
Of life's beauty blown on the breeze
Last time I went to Hunstanton I chose the wrong beach, right beach this time, but underestimated how far in the tide needs to be, so it was already a bit too far out by the time the sun set. It's a fair old drive, but will be paying a return visit as it's a great location.
There is not
one path
There is not
Even the
right path
There is only
your path!
Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments
"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."
Henry David Thoreau
